@DuncinToffee

Dennis Skinner was right When posh boys are in trouble they sack their servants.

It’s as though some deity hired the best satirist around to write reality. Even actual real life names seem somehow made up.

DuncinToffee · 16/01/2022 10:14

Gavin Williamson doing the whipping?

DuncinToffee · 16/01/2022 10:17

I always thought 'whipping boy' was a far more ancient concept, Spartan? but maybe I got that from a film or something.

jgw1 · 16/01/2022 14:07

@Peregrina

How will the Military stop Channel Migrants? Priti Patel's previous ideas ended up with the Public giving the RNLI it's best year ever for donations. It rather suggests that (thankfully) that the the Tory right wing are out of step on this issue.

I don't suppose she will be aware that there are international rules governing sea faring and rescues.

Well it has been reported on these boards many times that the military mostly spend their time sat around doing their knitting, just waiting to be needed as a doctor in the NHS. So with all that knitting they have done they are going to make a large blanket and throw it across the Channel stopping all the boats.

That might just be a reflection that your go to image is of Spartans Grin
DuncinToffee · 16/01/2022 15:05

The film '300' came to mind, not sure if that makes it any better Grin

I liked this bit so much I decided to copy it. Thanks, DGR.

The first example of non-personal “boozy” I’ve found is from the House of Lords in 1976, when the Earl of Selkirk said: “I am asking for something which is quite small: that people should be given a little notice before a boozy festival takes place: I am not against boozy festivals from time to time; but the neighbours are entitled to a measure of protection.” (Interestingly, Lord Kirkhill responded, “My Lords, I do not want to prolong this matter but I do not know what the noble Earl means by “boozy festival.”)

seems there is a pushback across the globe going on ?

Another reason people who read, travel and have wide horizons are detested by the Brexiteer right wing indentigammons.

It gets the adoring faithful adoring! time and time again, the answer to any national 'problem' is "send in the army"
BringBackCoffeeCreams · 17/01/2022 09:39

I saw on my newsfeed this morning that Downing Street sources are saying that they told Johnson of the party in advance and told him he needed to put a stop to it and he completely dismissed their concerns. So yet again he's lied to Parliament in his claim that he thought it was a work event and with hindsight he should have sent them back inside. He was told in advance and didn't care.

I can't find the link to the report now as I skimmed over it in my pre coffee haze and now can't find it. I think it was a tweet from someone at The Observer, but I might have dreamt that bit.

So he's lied to the Palace too ?

They'll end up scrapping Trident by lunchtime, to keep this out of the news ...

What a way for the BBC to go, eh ? Not in a highly debated and informed move towards media rationalisation. But scrapped as a news story to keep Big Dog in his basket. The shame. The ignominy.

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2022 09:53

It was in the Sunday Times

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/live-by-the-pint-die-by-the-pint-dh0dqzftl

^
Former Spectator and Sunday Tel editor Dominic Lawson directly undermines Boris Johnson’s claim that he thought the May 20, 2020 party was a “work event”.^

He claims that at least two people in No 10 told the PM it was a party and should be cancelled

DGRossetti · 17/01/2022 09:57

So, like Coventry, the PM knew, and did nothing ?

If I lived in Dresden, I'd be leaving town for a few days.

(Yes, I know).

I'm sure I was told it was crocheting not knitting on another thread. Crochet blankets are quite popular, maybe they will send them to Calais to keep them warm in the camps.

Thanks for that. I was beginning to think I'd lost my marbles and imagined I'd read something.

@ancientgran perhaps it was crochet. With the holes in crochet would they make good nets for helping people out of the sea?

And - as always - history pokes us in the ribs and reminds us why people have to flee their homes. Their families. Their very being ...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60024228

Anne Frank betrayal suspect identified after 77 years

...
A team including an ex-FBI agent said Arnold van den Bergh, a Jewish figure in Amsterdam, probably "gave up" the Franks to save his own family.
...

None of us is equipped to judge this. But let us remember - again - the people that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law. The people that killed her were obeying the law

Which is why Priti "fucking awful" Patel can shove her hate-filled head up her capacious arse and whistle Dixie for me.
