There is still hope for Scotland Wink

And remember the offer of a refugee camp Grin

Swear · 10/02/2022 13:02

I don't understand how anyone can read the Hate Crimes Act (Scotland) and keep up with the news of what's happening to women and girls in Scotland and still say "There is still hope for Scotland" and actually support the SNP? Scotland is in a very bad place and going downhill.

prettybird · 10/02/2022 13:15

The point about independence is that after independence, we can vote. for. who. the. fuck. we. like. Grin

I'll probably go back to voting for Labour.

Until then, we're stuck with voting for the SNP in order to achieve the right to self-determination.

prettybird · 10/02/2022 13:16

It always astounds me how many people don't seem to realise this Confused

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2022 13:16

Liz Truss in Russia

UK Foreign Sec @trussliz has left the building. Judging by presser between her & Lavrov, she won’t be invited back any time soon. Quote of day from @MID_RF Lavrov: speaking to Truss is like having a ‘conversation between a mute or deaf person who is listening but not hearing.’

Thanks @prettybird 😊

Yeah right. On the basis of that argument they're spending decades doing whatever the fuck they like - including introducing thought crime and the right of police to enter your home and search for books and computers containing thought crime, and then destroy them on a court order, while said court sends you to prison for up to 7 years.
If independence ever happens, there won't be much left.

Swear · 10/02/2022 13:26

Prettybird - your argument reminds me of GOP and Trump. Trump could do absolutely anything - he could destroy democracy if he wanted to - as long as he put the right man on the Supreme Court to get rid of abortion rights. This obsession with one issue by people prepared to sacrifice absolutely everything else means that we don't have a real democracy in Scotland.
I suggest that the other regular posters on this thread actually give it some thought, rather than loving someone's views just because they are anti Brexit and have been on the thread a long time and have cats.

prettybird · 10/02/2022 13:31

I'd love for Labour to be more open-minded about independence. Unfortunately, they're not.

Until then.....

Personally, I'm more scared about WM and the Conservatives are doing to our society and values. And the direction of travel post-Brexit.

Swear · 10/02/2022 13:48

Prettybird - did you support independence and the SNP prior to the Brexit referendum?

prettybird · 10/02/2022 13:52

Irrelevant.

Swear · 10/02/2022 14:46

No, it's not. You certainly imply in some of your posts that it's about getting away from Brexshit, not a nationalist ideology, for instance.

prettybird · 10/02/2022 14:55

You're welcome to look through my history. I've always been open about my path towards supporting independence.

pointythings · 10/02/2022 15:36

prettybird has always been unequivocal and clear about her support for Scottish independence. I don't know why you have a problem believing that, swear.

Opal8 · 10/02/2022 16:06

Yep. This is not news to anyone on thos thread.

......

I've been watching the Olympic curling. For hours seemingly. I still don't understand it. I'm onto the slalom now

Safeguarding course earlier.

God, I'm depressed.

Being Dutch I've been keeping my eye on the speed skating. We aren't really a curling nation, we tend to use ice to move around on at speed when the weather permits.

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2022 16:23

Ireen Wüst is one amazing woman

Opal8 · 10/02/2022 16:28

Speed skating is cool

prettybird · 10/02/2022 16:34

I've been trying to avoid watching the Olympics (except for the reports on the news) at ds' request. He's active in campaigning about the Uyghurs and highlighting the genocide by the Chinese (as acknowledged even by Iain Duncan Smith Shock which left me in the strange position of agreeing with him for once Hmm).

Opal8 · 10/02/2022 16:39

It's very troubling. And rumors of athletes being very unimpressed.

Did any athletes boycott this games?

JRM is asking Sun readers to write to him with the EU regulations they want to see abolished

This bears out the truth of the US Embassy assessment of the UK's headlong rush into disaster.

No macroeconomic modeling, desperate attempts by leading Brexiteers to rile up the undereducated in support of Brexit because that is literally all they have keeping them in their cushy jobs, did I mention no modeling?

Those graduates of well-regarded American universities who staff US embassies in the UK and the analysts in the State Department must be slack-jawed in shock. A self-inflicted economic shock is unthinkable.
