But if people are cold enough?

@DGRossetti

Given the religious fervour Tories invest in Johnson, does anyone remember the ending to "The Man Who Would Be King" ?
That ending has always stayed with me. Unforgettable.
pointythings · 04/02/2022 18:50

A prime minister who needs someone else to give him bad gotcha lines really has no business being in the job. But we knew that already.

DrBlackbird · 05/02/2022 08:00

The Graun reported that it was Carrie insisting that Hubbie stay in post. I don’t like to bash the wives because Johnson is fully capable of making his own stupid decisions but I did then think ‘ah she doesn’t want to leave the lovely new gold wallpapered No 10’. That makes sense to me because honestly Johnson really doesn’t look like a man enjoying himself anymore Grin Or is that just the Graun letting Dom be bitchy?

DrBlackbird · 05/02/2022 08:09

I dunno maybe the article is too wife bashing…?

Peregrina · 05/02/2022 08:12

We are supposed to feel sorry for a man who couldn't keep his willy in his trousers?

DGRossetti · 05/02/2022 08:16

I wouldn't blame the string of former Mrs Johnsons for looking up "schadenfreude" recently.
DrBlackbird · 05/02/2022 08:20

Not feeling the slightest bit sorry. I’m genuinely wondering why he’s still there. So Carrie’s preference was one possible explanation for why he’s still in post when he’s not looking like it’s so much fun anymore. Physically, he looks a wreck. Though his narcissism may be that extraordinary that he truly believes he’s a brilliant PM and will only go if/when pushed?

Peregrina · 05/02/2022 08:24

I wonder if Carrie knows what happened to Anne Boleyn?

DrBlackbird · 05/02/2022 08:28

From the article…. The flat refurb, involving gold wallpaper and a £112,000 price tag, has seen critics brand her “Carrie Antoinette”, a label she is known to dislike. But one former Downing Street insider says there was a different nickname for her – Ann Boleyn. Wink

Opal8 · 05/02/2022 08:42

Not read the article and won't.

Really dislike such lazy misogyny.

De Pfeffle isn't enjoying himself, is he?

Being PM not such a jolly wheeze after all.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 05/02/2022 08:48

I thought that the article was quite balanced - it didn't say that Carrie Antoinette was the power behind the throne, although it did say that some of her chums were still in place, when others had got the push.

Oh he thinks he is brilliant alright.

It is such a mystery why everyone is so hot under the collar.

Opal8 · 05/02/2022 09:22

Meh

He's a grown fucking man

It's just so pathetic to blame the little woman (amd I'm no fan of Mrs johnson)

OP posts:
prettybird · 05/02/2022 09:23

I've not read the article but whether Carrie is or is not behind him continuing to stay in post is irrelevant.

We deserve better from our PM Angry

prettybird · 05/02/2022 10:11

Matt Chorley in The Times. I will never see Raab any other way from now on. Grin (stolen from a friend).

A friend (who sadly should know) commented that Boris looks like a shagrat that has suddenly stopped getting it. (Or "it" if you prefer).

It did occur to me when he was angling for PM that being surrounded with that level of scrutiny and protection (and given Priti Patel runs the police, I would think it's more "protection") he might find it puts a crimp in the lifestyle to which he had become accustomed.

Nah. Protection details are used to turning a blind eye prince andrew

It would be less them constraining him, than his own wife I would have thought. Remember she knows exactly what is like, and therefore exactly how to keep his ardour unsatisfied if needs be.

I wonder if the UK could see it's very own version of the Clinton debacle ? Especially with Boris and his Churchillian ambitions. I believe Churchill's cigar shop is still in business (if "The History Guy" ⋈ is to be believed. Or was that his milliner ?)

That would give Sue Gray something to get her teeth into Grin

An elegant lesson in how to summarise the Brexiteer decades long machinations and approach to a complex trading relationship….

DrBlackbird · 05/02/2022 16:51

Meanwhile Nadine is moving to full blown Brexiteer paranoia with her declaration that the move to oust Johnson is a Remainer’s plot.

Plus her desire to set legislation to stop Netflix showing offensive comedy is a bit anti-free market isn’t it. What happened to her ire at the left-wing snowflakes?

pointythings · 05/02/2022 17:31

Let's face it, Nadine Dorries has never been the most rational of people. She's a mad fundie Christian who has form for wanting to force her beliefs on people - she was the one who wanted to mandate counselling for women wanting an abortion. I wrote to Matt Hancock about that one and he was actually rational about it.

DGRossetti · 05/02/2022 17:35

Meanwhile Nadine is moving to full blown Brexiteer paranoia with her declaration that the move to oust Johnson is a Remainer’s plot.

Why on earth would we remainers want to oust the one true remainer in power ? After all, there really can be no other reason why Brexit is so shit. Surely it would have been a sterling success if it had been run be a true BeLeaver ?

Just keep pushing that narrative. It's just as insidious and poisonous as Johnsons attack on Starmer. It's what he deserves if the really fruit loopy Brexiteers (and it's worth reminding ourselves that Nadine "should I get my shotgun ?" Dorries is one of the more lucid brexiteers around ...)
