Brexit Megathread Part 3: COP26 and beyond. The Empire is no more.

The old thread is nearly full so as COP26 is in my home town, I thought I'd start the next one.

I'm not expecting anything wonderful from COP26. The selfishness that is Brexit will extend to the rich nations - or rather corporations, countries and cronies - not wanting to do anything that might actually cost them money or hurt their profits and having made their money on the back of the resources of the poorer nations (in some cases quite literally Sad), they'll expect them to pay the price for the riches of the West.

The deliberate mistranslation of France's letter to the EU will distract from real issues - but that's ok for BJ as he can then blame the perfidious French.

Nothing changes.

I have nothing to contribute at this moment but a cat picture - but despite how mundane this one looks, it isn't. This is my ex feral lady, sitting literally within two feet of me quite peacefully. I've had her since mid-June - just goes to show what patience and love can do. Shame the people in charge of this country don't get that.

pointythings · 31/10/2021 18:15

Whoops, totally forgot the picture!

Thanks prettybird for the new thread.

So while Johnson is up there, in London they’re putting raw sewage straight into the Thames.Sad

pmk

DoctorTwo · 31/10/2021 18:31

Everything our PM does turns to utter shit, doesn't it. He should sstick to his usual routine of doing nothing and lie about it.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2021 18:43

Macron said. "...when you spend years negotiating a treaty and then a few months later you do the opposite of what was decided on the aspects that suit you the least, it is not a big sign of your credibility."

Tick the situation this statement refers to:
1 - Northern Ireland Protocol
2 - Fishing/France

I thought it was a joke that Bozo really expected that the EU would side with the UK against France. What, side with a founding member against a country which has had a tantrum and walked out?

DrBlackbird · 31/10/2021 19:18

It being Halloween and all, I’m sure there are jokes to be made about cop26 and Johnson, but I’ll leave it as a 🎃 PMK

DGRossetti · 31/10/2021 19:31

A friend in the US has just commented, blaming the fall of Rome on immigration does have shades of blaming the US Civil War on immigration.

borntobequiet · 31/10/2021 20:06

Thanks, prettybird. Cat pic of my very old and frail girl happily resting on my bed.

Bozo Boris now says that COP26 could fail.

This is the man who flew there on a private jet, wants to open a new coal mine in Cumbria and a new Oil well off Shetland, plus has a Chancellor who has cut taxes on domestic flights, which should hardly be necessary in a country the size of the UK. So yes, with that sort of example, it's no wonder it's likely to fail.

Bloomberg reporting that The British isle of Jersey, which is in the crosshairs of the UK-France fishing dispute, is considering giving extra temporary licenses to French boats to end the impasse

FatCatThinCat · 01/11/2021 12:30

I shouldn't be shocked but I am, just reading about the UK deliberately mis-translating the letter from the French PM to UVDL in order to stoke up anti French/EU sentiment. And yet again the UK media are running with the Government's bullshit version rather than calling them out on the lie.

FatCatThinCat · 01/11/2021 12:34

And when COP26 fails, as it most likely will, it will be entirely De Spaffle's failure. He's attempting to lecture others and bully them into changing their behaviours while fully engaging in those same behaviours with no intention of changing himself. Do as I say not as I do may well wash with the fuckwits who elected him but it won't wash with the rest of the world.
