Brexit

So, how long will it be before we join again?

Will you be supporting the campaign to join the EU?

It will be good for business to do away with a lot of pointless red tape at customs, and our people will benefit from being able to travel, study and work in 28 countries.

JuliaDomna If someone posts exactly like a brexiter they probably are, whether they want to admit to it or not.

Ok you got me, im a brexiter, im just soooo scared of anonymous people on mumsnet i couldn't possibly admit it. After all its a proven scientific fact all remainers feel the same way and mentally and physically cannot let themselves get over a decision made 4 years ago. Confused Hmm

Oblomov20 · 01/01/2021 19:17

Is there a time period day 3 or 5 years, that they said we couldn't join again within?

I doubt they'll let us back in easily.

But, one thing, the news reported yesterday was Sunak stopped the VAT on tampax and sanitary pads. That the EU insisted on.
Isn't that bad?

Squigglypig2 · 01/01/2021 19:19

15 -20 years maybe? Although with pace of change the EU and UK will no doubt look very different at that point. I'd hope that the UK manages to stay sufficiently aligned during that period with all the mini deals that will have to take place that it's not too big an ask if it does ask to rejoin. Also I think we'd need a referendum of at least 60% if not 70% and to hope that the EU wants us back.

Mistigri · 01/01/2021 19:22

VAT on tampons in Ireland = 0%

Isn't Ireland a member of some European trade bloc or something?

HeyHeyImABeLeaver · 01/01/2021 19:28

@Peregrina

The other options were dire, but the Tories didn't have to elect a shape shifting venal liar as their leader. At that stage there were better candidates available - I would give Rory Stewart and even Jeremy Hunt as better example.
No they didn't but they choose as they did and the average Joe had no say in that.

Jeremy Hunt 😮, he is probably breathing a huge sigh of relief right now, he would have been taken to the cleaners given that the lack of preparedness for a pandemic happened on his watch as health minister.

Kendodd · 01/01/2021 19:29

There's a rejoin march planned. If it goes ahead (it might be postponed because of covid) I'm going to go! I went on some of the other marches and they were really great, everyone was so nice and friendly. One million people and not a single bit of trouble, a world of difference from the racist (I know, not all leavers are racist, blar, blar, blar) filled pro Brexit marches.

No, campaigners have been asking for the whole EU to remove this for about six years now. It would have happened anyway. Nothing to do with Sunak. And as said, Ireland, still in the EU, doesn't have it.

@RMRM

My teens are furious with their grandparents. I'm not all that happy with them either tbh.
What on earth for?!?!
ListeningQuietly · 01/01/2021 20:26

Johnson was elected in December 2019
in part because Corbyn was a shite option

that does not explain why British electors have voted in people who they know will screw them over
so many times
over the last 40 years

maybe Brits are stupid ?

Kendodd · 01/01/2021 20:31

I remember watching people in a food bank on TV saying they'd be voting Tory in the last election. It's just astonishing, food banks hardly existed ten years ago before the Tories came to power.

Well, I voted for Tony Blair way back, he screwed us over just in a different way and so did Gordon Brown. Never bothered with Labour since.

Funnily enough both of these PMs have made a valuable contribution in getting us to where we are today.

Yes I thought so. Someone who writes the below is hardly likely to have voted Remain after all. Although I can understand why you wouldn't want to admit to having voted Leave.

Never i think the eu will fall apart with other countries opting to leave years down the line
Also people need to fuck off with the histronics of their kids futures been robbed and they hate their grandparents. What you really fucking mean is it might cost you slightly more to go on holiday. Ffs

Nope, don't believe for a second that someone who wrote the above is a remainer. Absolute bollocks.

Hahaha are you serious...your basically saying no remainers are not racist or don't cause trouble. How do you do every single person attending isnt racist or doesn't cause trouble. You know there is more than likely a decent percentage of remainers who are.

Very much like in America where people are shipped into protests to deliberately cause trouble the same can be said here too.

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 21:40

Well Farage's marches had about 10 men and a dog on them and got arrests. We managed a million or more more than once and a few dogs, and there were no arrests.

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 21:42

But why so annoyed Leavers, you have got your Brexit.Shafted Remainers and young people into the bargain so got a bonus.

cyclingmad · 01/01/2021 21:48

@peregrina

Whats annoying is that remainers continue to call all sorts of names to leavers saying they are stupid

Have you seen any leavers telling remainers that? Had their intelligence insulted, told they are racists 🙄

Honestly that's what annoys me the most. If you have differing opinions fine but no need to insult people but this ongoing onslaught on mumsnet of thread upon thread of remainers constantly throwing insults is tiresome

End of the day its done. Move on

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 01/01/2021 21:49

I don’t think they said that

I think they said that there was no trouble on the remain MARCH and no racism

I dont think they were making a comment on the morals or otherwise of 16 million people who voted remain once 4 years ago

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 01/01/2021 21:50

Yes

Only on mumsnet to be fair
