Will you be supporting the campaign to join the EU?

It will be good for business to do away with a lot of pointless red tape at customs, and our people will benefit from being able to travel, study and work in 28 countries.

Whats annoying is that remainers continue to call all sorts of names to leavers saying they are stupid

Some

End of the day its done. Move on

Ok. I’ll move on by looking into rejoin movements.

Europe is still there. The EU is still there, still a huge economic power bloc on our doorstep. It exists and nothing you can do or say will change that. We still have to deal with that reality.

Mistigri · 01/01/2021 22:01

End of the day its done. Move on

It's just started. Won't be done for years - the deal contains lots of phase in arrangements that will bite gradually between now and 2027, and some review mechanisms which will no doubt be the focus of rejoin strategy.

But anyway. What is it about you snowflakes that make you hate feee speech so much?

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 22:02

Yes, I will leave the Brexiters to it, to get one with 'moving on' to rebuild their society.

I am happy to call Farage a racist because he is.

inquietant · 01/01/2021 22:06

Laughing at the idea it is 'done'.

Haggertyjane · 01/01/2021 22:36

That's ship has sailed OP.

ListeningQuietly · 01/01/2021 22:46

I went to two of the massive marches

excellent happy days where I bumped into friends old and new

Cash / Farage / Chope / Lewis fought for 40 years to get a result

we plan to follow their example

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 22:54

I am not surprised that only one day in with Real Brexit that Leavers aren't too happy e.g. Eel man, and people in Kent. Brexit was never defined and when Johnson was given a mandate in the December 2019 election, it was to 'Get Brexit Done' . But no detail, and people said 'Whatever'. Now, 'shape shifting creep' that he is, he's shafted them, because that is what he does.

Sarahandduck18 · 01/01/2021 23:07

When Scotland become independent there will be a referendum on rejoining. That will be interesting...

Gronky · 01/01/2021 23:09

Best of luck, ListeningQuietly. I may disagree with your stance but I also think it's very important that everyone fights for their political views.

Sirius99 · 01/01/2021 23:26

If a political party stands on a mandate of having a rejoin referendum, gets in government, Holds the referendum and we are in favour of rejoining, ( know the terms if the EU would let us ) I will be happy to rejoin because that’s democratic decision and I would respect the result, unlike a few people.

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 23:42

Too right there. Back in 2015 all the major parties had commitments to the EU in their manifestos, but it still didn't stop a few people not respecting this and agitating and agitating to Leave.

Sirius99 · 01/01/2021 23:45

Peregrina, it was DC and the Tories 2015 manifesto committing to a in out referendum that won him the GE

Peregrina · 01/01/2021 23:50

I am well aware that he had a commitment to a Referendum. Whether that won him the election is debatable because less than ten percent of the population regarded the EU as a priority. I am also aware that there was a commitment to the Single Market in the Manifesto.

I will grant that Johnson's glib slogan of Get Brexit Done helped him to win.

Sirius99 · 02/01/2021 00:13

It was definitely the pledge of a in out referendum, they pick up many votes from UKIP

NiceGerbil · 02/01/2021 02:08

I'll never forget how Boris looked the day after the the referendum.

Pale, panicked and shocked.

They had to have the referendum to appease a tranche of party members.

It was rushed. Misinformation was everywhere. People on both sides weren't fully informed.

With the Scottish independence vote there was a much longer run in. Neutral info delivered by mail to each household spelling out what it meant. Informed and honest debate.

Brexit was what, 3 months run in? No unbiased info. And it's a really complicated issue. The EU, the other European mechanisms. What it would mean. What they did for us and what we paid them. Etc etc.

They never thought it would be exit. The whole thing was poorly organised with little factual info and a lot of actual lies. Russian interference etc.

So yes Boris looked pale as a ghost. Which said it all really.

MuseumGardens · 02/01/2021 02:19

David Cameron's shocked red face too that day when he realised what he'd done, the idiot.

RMRM · 02/01/2021 08:53

From the NYT

So, how long will it be before we join again?
nicky7654 · 02/01/2021 08:57

NEVER !! We can rule ourselves!!!!!

inquietant · 02/01/2021 08:58

@RMRM

From the NYT
Can't disagree with any of that.
daisypond · 02/01/2021 09:17

@nicky7654

NEVER !! We can rule ourselves!!!!!
Badly and incompetently, while blaming others for the fuck-ups, it seems.
MargosKaftan · 02/01/2021 10:54

Perhaps in 10 years time, but I'm not hoping for it, because its going to take our economy sinking badly for an extended period for that to happen. Much rather we get closer so ita not all that noticeable that we are out.

I do think the EU would have us back though, politically it'd be handy to have everyone else able to say "look, the British left and then ended up coming back. Why put yourself through the decade of pain first?"

Peregrina · 02/01/2021 11:03

My suspicion is that we will start quietly buying back into the parts that are available to third countries as associates.

debwong · 02/01/2021 11:25

We won't be allowed to rejoin without taking the punishment beating that we've got coming to us (deservedly so).

What a bizarre mindset. Why should any country deserve to be punished for making a democratic choice to leave a voluntary union? Some of you really worry me.

Peregrina · 02/01/2021 11:39

For the ERG types who want absolutely nothing to do with the EU, (although perfectly happy to be a vassal state of the USA, IMO), any compliance with the EU rules will be construed as punishment.

They don't like it up 'em as Cpl Jones said.
