From this article :"The EU will introduce similar rules in July – albeit these will of course cover 27 countries and not just one."
It's part of an EU directive that was meant to be implemented on Jan 1st, except the EU delayed it by 6 months.

A lot of SMEs making individual decisions like this, and before you know it, what's available in this country looks very different.

Kendodd · 03/01/2021 14:41

And my favourite. Poor bloke with his sex arses stuck in Calais.

They'll have to stop shipping their products to Italy before they're sent back to the UK then, won't they? Not very difficult.

wherearemychickens · 03/01/2021 14:42

I'm glad we have friends in Europe - if it comes to it we can ask them to take orders for us and ship over. There will still be the customs formalities, but it's at least a way of getting something delivered if the company won't.

Stilltalkstotrees · 03/01/2021 14:42

Yes @BelleHathor - and your point is?

wherearemychickens · 03/01/2021 14:43

It's now owned by an Italian company I think - the decision may equally be that they stop servicing the UK market altogether.

The EU will soon be bringing in the same VAT rule. Will all countries outside the EU stop shipping to it?

SouthDownsLass · 03/01/2021 14:44

Anyway, the wonderful thing about capitalism is that where there is a gap, it gets filled. If a Dutch company CBA to ship to the UK, someone else will Smile

wherearemychickens · 03/01/2021 14:44

We haven't seen the full impact of the containers crisis work its way through the system yet either.

Stilltalkstotrees · 03/01/2021 14:46

Not very difficult

You have no fucking idea, do you? Bunch of wreckers. Enjoy your idiotic 'sovereignty' - I'm very glad this will be the last BA thread - your lack of understanding/appreciation of what you've done enrages me.

BelleHathor · 03/01/2021 14:47

@Stilltalkstotrees

Yes *@BelleHathor* - and your point is?
Point is this will be EU wide by July. Short term bumps right now as with any change, gives the UK time to come up with solutions.
bellinisurge · 03/01/2021 14:47

It's not really a question of CBA, though, is it? It's about margins. It's about growing your reputation with your market in as cost efficient a bit as possible.

BelleHathor · 03/01/2021 14:50

@SouthDownsLass

And this ⬆️, if the market isn't viable they will leave. Gives an opportunity for someone to innovate, maybe a company/software that does the VAT for a fee.
DoubleTweenQueen · 03/01/2021 14:50

@SouthDownsLass CBA? How about the extra costs that won’t be economic to SMEs?
Canyon bikes have also suspended shipping to UK - hopefully temporarily.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/01/2021 14:51

"The EU will introduce similar rules in July – albeit these will of course cover 27 countries and not just one."

Will EU countries be asked to register with, collect, pay and account for VAT on behalf a third country?

Stilltalkstotrees · 03/01/2021 15:15

I know it's pointless to debate with brexiters but for goodness sake - you just laughed at the very idea that some EU companies might (be forced to) choose not to export to good old Blighty, we gave several examples - in just one sector - where this has already happened, and you change your argument to 'well they're just lazy and anyway market forces will sort it all out'. Jeez.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/01/2021 15:20

Although, worth noting that the BelleHathor link is nothing to do with changing how the EU collects VAT from third countries, as it refers to a new system to make it harder for third countries to sell low value goods by exploiting simplified customs declarations.

BrandySours · 03/01/2021 15:51
