Hurrah hurrah

What a momentus political journey we have all been on!

Abused, hounded, our vote ground into the ground, the brave route!

Hurrah fellow brexiteers!!

🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍸🍸🍷🍷🥂🥃

Thank you nigel, Boris and all the rest.

I'm so relieved to have a shallow transparent vote to pass onto my children, give them a country purely governed by whoever they vote in with no shadowy shady murky organisations hundreds of miles away, pulling the strings...

No vacuous monolith wasting and using billions of pounds our money in corruption... Hurrah!!

Comradesally · 31/12/2020 23:10

How worried we were at one point, landlady even donned a hair turban and asked us all to look into '' a million things to do with a marrow '' book.

XingMing · 31/12/2020 23:10

Glad everyone can celebrate. I think it's tragic that everyone can feel triumphalist. We have wasted an opportunity to do better. I feel the UK is better out than in, but I am still desolate.

Comradesally · 31/12/2020 23:11

Our we going to get a musical like Hamilton or les mis....

Some great character to pull on...

🥂🍾 to new beginnings. New partnerships.

Comradesally · 31/12/2020 23:13

Oh yes!!
I remember standing in voting booth, monsoon rain outside, looking nervously at dd as I put my x in the box!

thegcatsmother · 31/12/2020 23:15

Happy Brexit

Xing Sort out a walk next week? I think we are allowed?

RedTrees Take Christ out of those lyrics and insert the EU and that is why some of us, who have done time in Brussels, and seen the institution up close and personal, voted Leave. It is like a quasi religion. There is a dark underbelly to the EU that many are wilfully refusing to see; but there are none so blind as those that will not see.

As to you can still live and work and travel in the EU - why does that beggar belief? If you travel to other countries or want to live and work in them, then you have to jump through some hoops. That is also true, whether we had remained or not. Lots of hoops to jump through having moved to Belgium twice in the last 14 years, and no slack cut in terms of the paperwork needed, even though once was under a Status of Forces Act, and another under the Washington Treaty.

thegcatsmother · 31/12/2020 23:16

Xing Relieved more than anything else; I was very worried that it could not be done.

Thistimetamorrow · 31/12/2020 23:17

Ah yes, the ballot box Comradesally. That powerful tool that lets democracy speak the will of the people.
The only place where all men are equal.

BrandySours · 31/12/2020 23:20

Glad everyone can celebrate. I think it's tragic that everyone can feel triumphalist

I can only speak for me, no idea what others feel

But for me, the triumph & celebration has a lot to do with the journey it's been - the incessant fighting that had to be done to implement the result of the ref

I was constantly gobsmacked at just how contemptuous the political establishment was with regards to their electorate
Every single angle was exploited to try & overturn the ref result
It was tortuous & incessant

At the start I'd have readily accepted an EFTA/EEA future - it would have been enough of a start for future, further-reaching disentanglement from the EU (whilst acknowledging the closeness of the ref result)

But years of abuse, contempt & political chicanery hardened me

My triumph/celebration is rooted in relief

Relief that democracy prevailed & our vote was delivered

I'm happy with the deal, and am looking forward to the future

So, cheers all Wine

It's been emotional...!

The place where all people are equal.

Even those that some deem not worthy of a vote and that's why it's so beautiful.

BrandySours · 31/12/2020 23:23

I remember standing in voting booth, monsoon rain outside, looking nervously at dd as I put my x in the box!

It was a lovely sunny day here Sally!

I stayed up the whole night & next day - I could not believe it when I saw the results coming in
I really expected Remain to win!

@XingMing

Glad everyone can celebrate. I think it's tragic that everyone can feel triumphalist. We have wasted an opportunity to do better. I feel the UK is better out than in, but I am still desolate.
I mainly feel relief that all the tools that were weaponized (The Courts, Bercow, MSM etc) to change the result have failed. There is a tinge of sadness that politicians failed to address issues adequately. However Covid19 is the pressing issue and we are going to have to innovate to survive 🙏
Comradesally · 31/12/2020 23:25

Monsoon here like never seen before, they thought it would put off the older voters, but they went on boats, canoes along flooded streets, in waders... Young and old...

My entire car roof and all was covered in water from massive puddle and car going by next to us...

notangelinajolie · 31/12/2020 23:25

@yellowspanner

At 11 for fireworks
We did it! Went with fireworks at 11. A box of 120 from Asda called Detonator Grin

Saving the sparklers and champers for midnight when we will go outside and sit on our front wall and make sparkly circles and drink our champagne 🍾🥂

Comradesally · 31/12/2020 23:32

Gcat I've absolutely loved your posts from the heart of darkness over the years!

BrandySours · 31/12/2020 23:33

Epic is 👀

She wants me to post this pic, and set up the bar with classic dmitris, bar nuts and marrow crisps all round!

XingMing
You raised a load of valid political issues that could and should have been dealt with
but none of them had anything to do with the EU
so how / why will Brexit make them better ?

HeyHeyImABeLeaver · 31/12/2020 23:35

Glad everyone can celebrate. I think it's tragic that everyone can feel triumphalist. We have wasted an opportunity to do better. I feel the UK is better out than in, but I am still desolate

XingMing - feelings of triumphalism might not be running so high if we hadn't had to endure nearly four years of MPs, people with a lot of money and even the speaker of the house, trying every trick in the book to overturn what we were told was going to be a once in a lifetime vote and that 'the will of the people' would be carried out'. It leaves a bad taste unfortunately. Boris has achieved a deal despite numerous obstacles that were put in his way and endless naysaying. So I'm all for celebrating this final hoorah, it's a massive bloody achievement in the circumstances.

bellinisurge · 31/12/2020 23:36

Thanks for separating NI from British control. Whether it's a permanent free port or eventually back with Ireland, it's not part of the UK anymore.
And you've given Scotland an excuse to lobby for another referendum.
Party time!

HeyHeyImABeLeaver · 31/12/2020 23:37

Cheers again everyone 🍷🍷🍷
