Thank goodness for stockpiles. Just been isolating due to Covid and we have done well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2021 21:08

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55578974 Some meat shortages are expected according to this, due to a covid/brexit combo.

AdoraBell · 07/01/2021 21:42

A friend of mine is isolating now, she’s actually at her partners home, both really glad that he keeps the freezer and cupboards topped up.

I ordered loo roll from Amazon last month, didn’t want to rely on possible low supply in supermarkets.

ScarletUnderkill · 07/01/2021 22:37

badkitten - this is a correct report. The butchers (plural) in my local area are closed as there has been a Covid outbreak in the abattoir.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/01/2021 02:40

ah bugger. I do seem to have a rather over supply of bacon though. need to freeze some more. I shall leave the chicken in the freezer then as a back up for ds. getting ds to eat is not a fun job.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2021 07:32

No such thing as an over supply of bacon!

AdoraBell · 09/01/2021 12:10

Words to live by fluffy 🤣

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2021 13:07

😂😂😂

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2021 17:35

Things that I'm finding hard to get:

  1. Tea light candles; and
  2. Medium freezer bags.

Bit weird, but there is definitely an issue!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/01/2021 21:32

What random things @NoWordForFluffy Grin

I did stock up on freezer bags as they were hard to get hold of for ages here. Greaseproof paper was also a tricky one although I think that was because of all the people doing more baking than usual!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2021 21:51

I've placed an IKEA order for tea light candles and freezer bags! The even weirder thing was that I was sure I'd been buying loads of both, but we have no stock. I blame DH!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/01/2021 22:15

IKEA will post out their freezer bags?!?

(We live about half an hour from our nearest IKEA, and whilst I love their stuff, I don't enjoy visiting at the best of times!)

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2021 22:23

Yep! £2 postage if you collect from a parcel shop. I thought that was OK!

BlackeyedSusan · 10/01/2021 14:06

Sorry about the freezer bags...

do two packs constitute a stash?

Clearly I have had no trouble with freezer bags. Isn't it weird how there are little difficulties in random places. (Not sarcastic or doubting)

The odd line disappears here and there and it is not immediately noticeable unless it is one of your staples. Didn't someone say there were quite a few lines missing from Sainsbury's. May be on Westminstenders thread.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/01/2021 14:21

I'm hoping they come back into supply before I use the 100 I've ordered! And, in other news, it turns out that we already have a stash of IKEA ones which DH bought, and didn't think to mention even when I asked if we needed any, to which he said yes, and didn't say we had his IKEA ones.

I rarely look at WM threads after being bullied out (the protagonists would deny it, mind you).

BlackeyedSusan · 10/01/2021 20:30

I mainly read several days behind. Not all of he threads either. Often only the first half of the thread.

At least you now have a stash of bags.

My favourite flavour cous cous has been removed from being available to buy. Annoying. Small Asda though so often not as much available as a bigger store.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/01/2021 23:01

We only have a small Asda too @BlackeyedSusan. Whenever I visit a large one I'm in awe at the vast range of stuff they actually sell Grin

I really need to go through our fridge and freezers again and update my lists, I'm sure the DC are running out of their 'essentials' such as chicken nuggets Hmm I bought the Batch Lady cookbook on a recent Kindle deal so will be taking some ideas from it!

BlackeyedSusan · 13/01/2021 01:36

Pringles have gone up from £2.50 to £3 (full price) from before Christmas/New Year to now. Asda.

Mamamia456 · 13/01/2021 12:38

Pringles are still £2.50 in Tesco. What you find with a lot of the supermarkets is that they will have an offer on one item but then put the price up on something else.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/01/2021 22:35

£3 for a tube of Pringles Shock Shock

I still haven't been through our freezer. There will be hell to pay if we run out of chicken nuggets...

NoWordForFluffy · 14/01/2021 07:02

Sainsbury's has a choc chip brioche shortage at the moment. Plus their cheaper kidney beans too.

I've not had issues with salad items yet though, thankfully.

I only buy Pringles at Christmas, so haven't spotted the price. Surely nobody buys them for £3?!

BlackeyedSusan · 15/01/2021 00:13

4 pints of milk has gone up by 5p at Morrisons.

I might if i were desperate fluffy, I usually stock up when they are half price.

Ellie56 · 15/01/2021 00:59

Nope I only buy half price Pringles. I still have plenty stashed away from before Christmas - the resident gannets haven't found them yet.Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 15/01/2021 07:10

I find that Sainsbury's does general price increases in January every year. Some things stay higher then others get dropped to where they were (and 'price drop' mentioned). Hmm

I've not spotted any yet, but I'm sure they'll all put milk up now.
