no substitutions today. I did not aorder much veg. brocollis was short in supply in that I got the one I had in my trolley booked bnut not able to add any extra. (not that I needed extra. )

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2021 06:31

I couldn't get broccoli or leeks this week (they had them in the shop at the weekend, so I'm Hmm at this).

My 400g chopped tomatoes has been subbed for a small tin (going back!).

BlackeyedSusan · 19/01/2021 11:10

posting late at night and spelling goes to shit.

EveLe · 19/01/2021 11:51

Had my Asda shop yesterday - no apples or pears which I wasn’t expecting! According to driver apples are the most likely fruit to be subbed, and they regularly run out. Which surprised me, as I’ve never had them missing or subbed before yet my lettuce, tomatoes and Spanish strawberries all
appeared.

Other things that were unavailable were freezer bags (2nd week running not available) raspberries and gammon.

I get an Ocado reserved order every 2 weeks, and haven’t been able to get gammon from there since before Christmas, which is why I tried to get it from Asda - was rather surprised a large supermarket had no gammon at all though!

Was expecting fresh products to be sparse, but not longer life fridge items. Hoping it’s just a temporary blip.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2021 13:15

Not just me with freezer bag issues then? What a bizarre thing to be missing. Does anybody know the logic?

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/01/2021 13:23

The only thing I could think of @NoWordForFluffy was more people cooking and/ or freezing food in case stocks run down...

There were none in our Poundland at the weekend either Confused

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2021 13:36

It's definitely very odd!

I've got to go and pick my pill up tomorrow, so I'll go into Sainsbury's and see if they have my missing vegetables!

AldiIsla · 19/01/2021 13:51

No strawberries. 🍓
Other than that all there.
Our usual fruits are apples, pears, bananas, grapes both green and red, plums, oranges and bananas. They were all available.

Nothing missing from salad.

No small cartons of apple juice but plenty of orange.

Mamamia456 · 19/01/2021 15:22

Noword - Maybe a factory closure because of covid.

Mamamia456 · 19/01/2021 15:26

Just been to M and S to get a few bits. No shortage of anything there. Loads of freezer bags as well! Mind you they're probably more expensive than elsewhere.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/01/2021 15:28

Sainsbury just do random price increases full stop.

Their Lavendar washing powder has been up and down more times than a willy!

Between £4.00 to £4.50 so many times last year

so glad I was not drinking coffee at that point as ds would not be pleased at having coffee on his precious keyboard, imported mouse and minitor.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/01/2021 17:02

I find morrisons rarely substitute. if they do they are reasonably sensible.
asda on the other hand often have stuff unavailable. I click no subs now on most things after having paid a lot of money for a tiddly little packet of brand instead of three big packs of smart price.

I have found things are not available to add to the basket in the first place. and price rises.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/01/2021 19:02

Plenty of broccoli and leeks in my local Sainsbury's today, thankfully.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/01/2021 01:41

supermarkets have always had the odd shortage, it is only when the pattern is repeated regularly, and widely spread across a few chains that it will be noticed by the general public. it is probably only those behind the scenes that will notice yet.

it will be blamed on covid or teething problems.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/01/2021 06:57

It's been very rare for more than one vegetable to be missing before now, personally. Asda's veg display was looking very sorry for itself too the other day. In fact, i would say that fruit and veg isn't piled high in quite the same way as it was in most places. Potentially spreading slightly less of everything around their stores?

It does feel scattergun at the moment though. I'm not sure why. There are definitely issues, however.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2021 08:22

No mushrooms yesterday from our sainsburys order.

Begonias · 21/01/2021 17:22

I had my Asda delivery last night. No apples, bananas, strawberries, oranges and cucumber second week in a row. Currently shielding which means I can't even go to the local grocers to pick up any fruit. Good job I ordered tinned/frozen fruit. Plenty of smoothies instead of fresh fruit, kids are actually craving fruit. They are fed up of snacks, who would have thought shortage of fruit and kids want to eat healthy 😂

BlackeyedSusan · 22/01/2021 01:58

another price increase: aunt bessies apple crumble: up fifty pence to £1.50 Morrisons.

also courgettes are now sold per courgette price, not price per kilo, the price has been fudged.

Morrisons mushrooms are up 16p a kilo or there abouts.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 08:29

@Begonias, that's a hell of a lot of stuff out of stock. Out of all of the supermarkets I've been in since Christmas, the ones which have been most empty of veg / fruit are Aldi and Asda. Yes, Sainsbury's has had the odd thing missing, but not like that.

@BlackeyedSusan, that's a hefty price rise all in one go. The mushroom increase appears to have, ummm, mushroomed!

BlackeyedSusan · 22/01/2021 14:35

i am going to be recording stuff here as i notice it as social history. and a testament to how much brexit costs. I am exceptionally pissed off at having less money.

Ladybookreader · 25/01/2021 01:09

Hi in ireland low/ missing this week tinned tomatoes, wraps, tea bags and coffee pods in 3 different shops certain nestle chocolate bars. Not so worried as well stocked but watching hauliers on news and can see problems coming

MarshmallowManiac · 25/01/2021 16:23

Just remembered this week and last week my DH went to Lidl and there wasn't any baked beans.

Dontlickthetrolley · 25/01/2021 17:59

Have been to Asda and they had everything I needed except mini marshmallows, I did notice there was no bagged salad which could be a Brexit/Covid/weather thing 🤷‍♀️

I did remember half way round how God awful their app for the phone is, constantly switching off the scanner and not reading the barcodes. By the end I was chucking food in my bags and scanning it when I got to the til. I also offered up some customer feedback on the app 🤣
