got to eat the fresh veg anyway.

I supposedly have a fresh shop coming tomorrow and am wondering about cancelling as the place is heaving.

ffs. hell. I need to fill up the freezer with the veg that needs cooking. in all the match box size places.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2020 09:01

Yes, the fresh stuff is getting eaten. We've all been eating cucumbers and peppers this weekend! We still have plenty of carrots and sprouts too.

I have a delivery tomorrow too, but I'm not sure we need £40's worth of anything! I might just go and get milk etc today (we use UHT in custard as I'm not keen on it in tea, other than if there's no alternative, so can't just use those stocks!).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2020 11:39

I’m keeping an eye on local covid cases wrt to using the stock. They are OK and falling at the moment but if they are likely to get worse over Jan & Feb will probably try and spend as little time as possible in shops.

Might not be sensible from a brexit point of view but should be into Jan by the time I start using it.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/12/2020 12:30

Not sure I need £40 of stuff either. £5 for coffee. And lots of pop for ds if I can't get milk. Still not put the last lot of stuff away.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2020 16:12

I think I’ve got another Tesco delivery booked for next week and I’ve no idea where it’s going to go.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2020 16:22

I cancelled Sainsbury's tomorrow. Then realised I was meant to be buying NYE booze in it. Fail.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/12/2020 21:15

@NoWordForFluffy no NYE booze Shock Shock Shock

(That said, I bought a lovely bottle of Aldi Prosecco for NYE, and DP opened it on Christmas Day by accident. Really not sure I can be bothered to replace it though...)

Another one eating loads of fresh veg, I've also bought some Christmas leftovers from Tesco and Waitrose so we've been eating those rather than go into the stuff in storage. If I get chance I'll have another freezer sortout, but with both DC down with chicken pox and all the schools uncertainty, who knows when that will be Hmm

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2020 21:44

Oh god, ours both got CP just after Christmas too! Good luck!

I put an order in for Weds. I needed the booze! 😂😂

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/12/2020 15:46

I am so grateful that Boots is still open even in tier 4 @NoWordForFluffy Grin

Don't blame you about the booze. I walked past a few shops earlier and they had big 'New Year party' banners up... I know these will have been planned/ produced months (if not years) in advance, but it seems inappropriate at the moment, to say the least!

Mamamia456 · 29/12/2020 16:00

Rafals - Donate it to a foodbank?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/12/2020 16:47

Some of it almost certainly will go to the food bank. I just need to check their shortage list and match it up with what I’ve got.

It’s not that it is necessarily a huge amount of food. It’s more a very very small flat with no storage space problem.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/12/2020 12:06

I think I'm going to struggle psychologically to run my stocks down, it seems! Even if I only replace / do stock rotation, I think it's here for life!

BlackeyedSusan · 30/12/2020 12:42

I really can't have it here for life. Some yes. Not all. Would like the underneath of my table back at least.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/12/2020 12:46

And the understairs... I have food everywhere. Got ridiculous. That was because no deal came in.

No broccoli or bananas in today's shop. We could have tried other bananas but couldn't be bothered. Got 10 left.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/12/2020 12:58

We aren't as loaded as you, I don't think! It's mostly in / on a cupboard.

Dontlickthetrolley · 30/12/2020 19:50

I'm going for no spend/low spend January so planning on spending about £20 a week on milk, fresh fruit and veg and lunch box items and try and stop the "let's buy 2, one for now and one for the pile" I have about 10kg of pasta of different shapes and sizes so should keep us going for a while.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 20:24

That is also part of the plan Don’tlick. Some will go to the foodbank and I want to keep about 2-3 weeks worth, but with price rises expected after Brexit I want to keep Jan very low spend and put some money aside. I don’t have a great deal of room in the budget for price rises on basics.

It won’t fit in the 1 cupboard I have in the kitchen, but at least it won’t be everywhere.

BlackeyedSusan · 31/12/2020 16:42

We don't have a big kitchen so it had to overflow to the rest of the flat.

Hell is just a few hours away now. 6 hour 18 minutes. Xmas Sad

Had a good cry last night.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/12/2020 17:10

Ours is in / on our landing cupboard and next to it, we'd never get it in the kitchen. Our homemade jams are under the stairs.

FestiveFannyGallops · 31/12/2020 20:15

I feel so sad tonight. Grateful for my stash though thanks to you lovely lot. We seem to have lots of Christmas chocolates so I've decided to put lots away for rationing over the next few months. I've totally overspent on Christmas and am extra grateful for my stash as it means I can get my bank balance back under control as I won't need to buy as much. I need to wean the dc off crisps but that will not be an easy task. They take up so much room in the pantry and last all of 5 minutes. Think I'm ok for loo roll for the next year Grin

prettybird · 01/01/2021 09:43

I've spent a whole £3.51 in the last 8 days on supplies: 2 x 4pt cartons of milk and (yesterday) 3 tomatoes when I discovered that I hadn't held back any tomatoes for my roast pheasant dish Xmas Grin

Am hoping to continue January at a similar rate Xmas Wink

Whenwillow · 01/01/2021 10:07

You profligate, you! Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2021 12:27

I'm not using my stash until the price rises kick in, then I'll use it to absorb the effect of them. Other than the bog roll, which we will start on when the stuff we have on the go runs out.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2021 15:23

I've just stocked up with my preferred baking chocolate - Dr Oetker Extra Dark - in Asda as it's £1 at the moment. Thought I should take advantage of the low price while it's there. The date is May next year, so it's good for ages.

Justgivemewine · 01/01/2021 15:49

@megletthesecond

Large Sainsburys shop coming later. I rarely drink alcohol but I remembered to get a red and white for risotto and pasta sauce purposes. I often freeze chunks of wine to throw in recipes at a later date.
Im a long time lurker on preppier threads but hardly ever post. I have a big stash too, all my friends think I’m bonkers (or at least did until we went into lockdown).

Just delurking to thank @megletthesecond for this little gem about the wine! There’s been several times I’ve dismissed a recipe because I didn’t want to open a bottle just for that but now I’m going to be cooking wine requiring recipes 😋😋and dh will find strange lumps or frozen red and white liquid secreted in tiny gaps around the freezer. 😁
