Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning

Now Covid-19 is over (yeah I know right) lots of civil servants who were switched from brexit no deal planning to covid-19 planning have been switched back to their original remit.

For some reason this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

We've also seen yet another doubling down on the EU not being flexible and how they need to make a deal. And lots of rhetoric about being serious about no transiton planning.

Remember we have something of a deadline looming at the end of next month.

So before we are even out of this crisis, the government have lost interest. Today's press conference was an eye opener - Van Tam openly said that the time taken to get test results was too long and wasn't good enough yet and meant track and trace wasnt still operational despite it being such a crucial factor in being able to go into the next phase as planned on 1st June.

Another deadline we won't make - the Manchester Nightgale still has patients and the local authorities in the NW are going mental. So the government is playing more silly buggers over blame and villianising the evil workshy teachers. Noting the government guidance for teachers on how to teacher children at home says fuck all and the guidance on reopening schools makes a Theresa May dog ate my homework style document look positively well thought out, in terms of practicality. (Not even going to touch on the question of whether its safe - the whether its workable one is more important).

I guess that means things are getting back to normal at least.

A recession looms, but workers rights are now fair game and fully in the government cross hairs - as we see from a lack of PPE for the 'heroes' and the attacks on the teachers. As well as the carers who were sold down river. That'll be the ununionised carers...

Taking back control.

@SwedishEdith Sed as in sediment Wink.

Clav starts making up her own story, forgetting to C&P to fill the gaping cracks...

Isn't BJ on paternity leave anyway? WHO DOES NUMBER TWO WORK FOR? Actually Bozo was in a hospital so presumably Cummings was the one who decided the lovely scientist should get the chop for visiting her second home?

TheElementsOfMedical · 23/05/2020 19:00

Nice one, gnome!

mrslaughan · 23/05/2020 19:05

Yes themship- I delivered groceries to my sister before lockdown as they were advised they must not leave the house for 14 days (her son was not tested, but would eat my hat if he didn't have it). She lives over an hour away. But she couldn't get a delivery slot for love nor money...... none of the businesses that have started offering delivery - were doing that then.....and she needed two weeks of food.......we knew lockdown was coming - so I got together what she needed from my pantry , added stuff to our Ocado order we luckily had booked, went to the farmshop and butchers.
People took the government advice seriously- as they should have..... except those that believe they are above the rules.......

.... and then there's my very good friend whose FIL died in his nursing home- not of Covid - but he was just ready. But they are struggling with the loss, partly because they weren't able to be there for him, they feel like they have lost time with him, and the support system
You would rely on in normal circumstances- isn't available. You can't give them a hug. Lockdown has sucked for so many people, but they have stuck with it.

It really fucks me off..... the story reeks

Peregrina · 23/05/2020 19:06

The scientist was in Scotland, and as we are finding out, Boris is in practice only the PM of England. Nicola Sturgeon did try to defend her, but it didn't work.

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 19:08

Has anyone done a complete timeline of events? He ran off on 26 March. Presumably, that's when she was "exhibiting symptoms"? That's a Thursday (good day to drive up for a pre-planned long weekend away?).

But, according to her Spectator article (which I'm trying to avoid reading) it was him that was out "doggo" for 10 days. But, he was also see playing in the garden with his son with Abba blasting out. What date was that? I feel I need to see a timeline of it all Grin.

Everytimeref · 23/05/2020 19:09

@TheMShip. Because it's one rule for them ....

DGRossetti · 23/05/2020 19:10

I guess he only needs a computer and video conferencing/zoom.

How well do they work in a moving car?

Shouldn't be too bad with 4G on a motorway. Not ideal, but certainly do-able.

JeSuisPoulet · 23/05/2020 19:13

I'd love to know what his cousin thinks of it all. I remember from the Guardian article on Cumming's uncle's death she was allowed full PPE to say goodbye, something not many get. I bet she has strong feelings about them visiting elderly relatives...

One of the other annoying part of this story is that he got a test many people would give their eye teeth for and then flouted the rules anyway!

Peregrina · 23/05/2020 19:13

But he was driving DGR, unless his sick wife was driving! There is multi-tasking and there is driving without due care and attention. Cummings/Johnson and all the toadies defending him would say it was the first, the rest of us, the second.

JeSuisPoulet · 23/05/2020 19:15

I wonder if Sturgeon can reinstate her now the rules have changed?

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 19:24

Just popping back quickly.
I wonder if Sturgeon can reinstate her now the rules have changed?

Unlikely - Scotland's Chief Medical Officer went for a jolly on two separate weekends - it wasn't a one off.

mrslaughan · 23/05/2020 19:28

Clav - she didn't have symptoms , and had a positive test.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2020 19:32

about time I returned to these threads!

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 19:34

Regardless of Covid,
Driving from one end of the country to the other with an ill person and a small child for a 71st birthday party on 5th April to dance to Abba is bloody stupid.
He's a selfish twat
who broke the law as well

PLEASE hope that the CCTV has not been wiped at the services ....

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 19:35

Hi there BadBad You picked a fun time
COVID has just crashed headlong into Brexit Grin

mrslaughan · 23/05/2020 19:37

What's the source for the birthday party? ( I am not sure you were invited listening 😂😂)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2020 19:38

It's a massive pile up isn't it!
I had to go head in the sand for a while. I'm slowly pulling my head back out and surveying the carnage.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 19:39

mrsl
Twitter at the time / MN at the time Cummings self isolating thread / police at the time
its all been there waiting to be slammed into view

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 19:41

Clav - she didn't have symptoms , and had a positive test.

Who did? DC's wife? I haven't seen that reported.

georgedawes · 23/05/2020 19:50

So the Mirror and the Observer are reporting a second visit. He is toast and the cabinet look like fools. They've trashed their whole public health message for nothing.

HesterThrale · 23/05/2020 19:55

More people have come forward to say they saw Cummings visiting other places in the NE.

One saw him in Durham on 19 April, days after Cummings was photographed in London having recovered from the virus.
A week earlier Cummings was seen by another witness in Barnard Castle on Easter Day, 30 miles away from Durham, the investigation found. The town, which takes its name from the English Heritage site at its centre, is a popular destination for days out.

That sighting would be difficult to explain away.

Presumably that's the day the family travelled back to London - they would be allowed to stretch their legs and buy food.

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 20:04

Beautifully timed of Guardian/Mirror. A classic drip-feed and wait until after the press briefing. I'm absolutley sure I saw a tweet from Harry Cole praising the timing of the press briefing saying it would miss the newsprint deadline. But (assuming I didn't imagine it) it's now gone. He obviously didn't know about the extra to come?

FuckThisWind · 23/05/2020 20:11

@Clavinova stop nit picking and cut and pasting. Nobody ever agrees with you. It takes a Narcissist or Tory Bot to be that loyal. You've said yourself that you don't like Cummimgs. What was it the Brexiteers used to chant? We need to come together. Do yourself a a favour and realise your party is a shit show.

Peregrina · 23/05/2020 20:14

Geography not your strong point Clavinova? If his family lived in the City of Durham, then the quickest way down to London is via the A1(M), not making a detour to Barnard Castle.
