Westministenders: Reployed back to No Deal Planning

Now Covid-19 is over (yeah I know right) lots of civil servants who were switched from brexit no deal planning to covid-19 planning have been switched back to their original remit.

For some reason this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

We've also seen yet another doubling down on the EU not being flexible and how they need to make a deal. And lots of rhetoric about being serious about no transiton planning.

Remember we have something of a deadline looming at the end of next month.

So before we are even out of this crisis, the government have lost interest. Today's press conference was an eye opener - Van Tam openly said that the time taken to get test results was too long and wasn't good enough yet and meant track and trace wasnt still operational despite it being such a crucial factor in being able to go into the next phase as planned on 1st June.

Another deadline we won't make - the Manchester Nightgale still has patients and the local authorities in the NW are going mental. So the government is playing more silly buggers over blame and villianising the evil workshy teachers. Noting the government guidance for teachers on how to teacher children at home says fuck all and the guidance on reopening schools makes a Theresa May dog ate my homework style document look positively well thought out, in terms of practicality. (Not even going to touch on the question of whether its safe - the whether its workable one is more important).

I guess that means things are getting back to normal at least.

A recession looms, but workers rights are now fair game and fully in the government cross hairs - as we see from a lack of PPE for the 'heroes' and the attacks on the teachers. As well as the carers who were sold down river. That'll be the ununionised carers...

Taking back control.

You think that someone needs to get out of a car and stretch their legs 20 minutes into a 4 hour car journey clav ?

If I was going to excuse it, I could say they were maybe going for a walk on their first day post lockdown but

a) his wife said they emerged into 'post lockdown London'

and

b) at that point in time you were definitely not meant to be driving 20 miles for exercise.

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:21

stop nit picking and cut and pasting.

I've only pasted a few words today.

*What was it the Brexiteers used to chant?

I've no idea what you are talking about - honestly. Grin

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 20:21

Finally, a timeline:

So March 27 Cummings runs out of DS.
March 31 Police speak to family in Durham
April 5 seen in parents’ garden in Durham
April 12 seen visiting Barnard Castle miles from Durham
April 14 Returns to work in London
April 19 spotted in woods in Durham with wife

Where did he fit in lying (which type?) "doggo" for 10 days?

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:23

You think that someone needs to get out of a car and stretch their legs 20 minutes into a 4 hour car journey clav?

Maybe it was lunchtime and they wanted to avoid service stations and the general public.

FuckThisWind · 23/05/2020 20:23

You cut and Paste all the time and you know you do. But I'm not going to give you anymore of my headspace. Because I know right from wrong.

Piggywaspushed · 23/05/2020 20:26

Didn't do a terribly good job of avoiding the general public, it seems...

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:27

You cut and Paste all the time and you know you do

Not on here today.

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:29

Didn't do a terribly good job of avoiding the general public, it seems...

No he didn't - it's a good job the next general election is 4 or 5 years away. Grin

Clav is doing her bot dance dressed as a squirrel again.

Cummings must know his time has come. Will he swim with the fishes (who as Gogglebox pointed out are being fought for far harder than our teachers)? I do feel for poor Sediment being stuck with two dimwits for parents throughout lockdown though, especially now they will be papped everywhere. Clav would have done better to use that as their defence, against child cruelty.

JeSuisPoulet · 23/05/2020 20:33

Cruelty not being papped, but being stuck with two people who clearly can't look after a child between them when they are ill, unlike the rest of the country.

Peregrina · 23/05/2020 20:39

Well, I don't know exactly where his parents live, so it could be County Durham. Yes, I leave motorways to find little cafes nearby but I don't go 25 miles out of my way to do so, putting nearly an hour onto what is already a 4-5 hour journey.

FuckThisWind · 23/05/2020 20:39

Yeah right. Not on here today, but in general.

Like the Tories, you speak your own language.

borntobequiet · 23/05/2020 20:48

Perhaps he has a doppelgänger. If anyone were to have a doppelgänger, it would be Cummings.
For some reason this reminds me of a pair of naughty twins, one of whom was in my tutor group. His identical twin went to a different school, because together they were double trouble. I noticed my twin often had very poor recollection of recent events but it did take a few weeks to realise that they each attended one or the other school as it suited them. Their older brother sorted them out for me, parents were helpless.

JeSuisPoulet · 23/05/2020 20:56

I think he will brazen it out. "Yeah, I was there. Did you not hear we can take 1hr exercise every day?" or "Well, it's not actually illegal, you know". Classic Dom.

Peregrina · 23/05/2020 20:58

Wow - getting on for 900 posts about Downing Street's response to the Cummings issue.

If MN is any guideline then they have really misjudged the public mood on this one. Now remember what Heseltine said about Johnson: "He sees which way the crowd is running, darts in front and shouts 'Follow me' ". So we have had all the Cabinet pulled out to defend Cummings; but no sign of Johnson, but perhaps he will come out soon, with a few selected sackings?

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 20:59

Oh, yeah, you can hear that twatty voice brazening it out. But a lot more ministers have humiliated themselves today defending him. And I suspect he's already hated.

JeSuisPoulet · 23/05/2020 21:01

Thought this was a good article about risk from The Guardian www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/22/coronavirus-me-call-shots-women-cautious-government?CMP=fb_cif&fbclid=IwAR1QJnSOzw_cqjTVMgrlGIb8DARqXpfygEpnW1-HF4yLlowTXLIT0LK8IIk featuring my lovely Labour MP Smile

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 21:15

"remember what Heseltine said about Johnson: "He sees which way the crowd is running, darts in front and shouts 'Follow me' ".

Now we learn if Cummings has something really important on BJ;
otherwise BJ would jump in front and sack him

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2020 21:15

John Rentoul
@JohnRentoul
Starmer +30 overtakes Johnson +6 in net approval rating
@OpiniumResearch
(Starmer 47% approve, 17% disapprove; Johnson 45%, 39%)

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 21:17

I refuse to believe it's "loyalty to a friend",
because neither of them care about anyone else

BigChocFrenzy · 23/05/2020 21:24

Baffling how anyone can justify this:

If a couple are too ill to look after their kid, then they are not safe to drive 4 hours

It's not just endangering people because of the risk of infecting them, but also

  • unless the degree of illness is a complete lie -
they endangered people in other vehicles.
yoikes · 23/05/2020 21:25

BJ?
Loyalty????
Hahahahahahahaha

DGRossetti · 23/05/2020 21:30

Brief (as you'd expect Smile) diversion for some German humor

Barnie is a pretty market town lovely to walk around. There are many other places futher south of Durham he could have stretched his legs at.
