A new thread as the other one is getting full. I'm enjoying the post election discussion. Every view is listened to and welcomed.

Brexit is happening, but what kind of Brexit will it be?

New leaderships for both Labour and the LibDems.

Most importantly, will Britain be Great in 2024?

BigChocFrenzy · 15/12/2019 19:29

Your mum sounds ace, placemats 💐
I hope you can nip over and see her again v soon

Great news about Alliance victories in NI

Stinkyeddie · 15/12/2019 19:29

Bojos russian and US paymasters will not accept bino or norway.

Stop being ridiculous

thecatfromjapan · 15/12/2019 19:29

Hello, BigChoc.

Piggywaspushed · 15/12/2019 19:30

Do country before party Tories include Antoinette thingymabob ( is she still around?) And Heidi Allen (I know she isn't). Also Alistair Burt, also gone. Sad times.

thecatfromjapan · 15/12/2019 19:31

Yes.

I rather feel StinkyEddie is correct.

And that's where you need an Opposition.

Well, time will tell.

Stinkyeddie · 15/12/2019 19:31

placemats Flowers

JustAnotherPoster00 · 15/12/2019 19:31

Agreed BCF like Ive said for me personally it wasnt about Corbyn it was about policies, so for me whoever leadership candidate seems genuine and that I can support their message then I will do so just as I have for Corbyn

I'm worried if I'm honest BCF because now its a certainty that I will lose an extra £60 a month when I get transitioned to UC on top of the £60 a month I already lose to the bedroom tax but theres nothing the Tories like more than giving us poor and disabled a kicking for christmas so I'm glad I've made their holiday season that little more festive Grin

placemats · 15/12/2019 19:32

She is a big SDLP supporter and loves Naomi Long as well. So she was very happy with the result. Her vote counted.

Thanks.

So sorry @placemats. Hope she’s OK and you can see her soon. 💐

TheABC · 15/12/2019 19:35

Please, fuck no, @thecatfromjapan, not another election within a year. With the exception of the SNP, the opposition parties are in no state to hold the Government to account. Johnson will have to do something mind-bogglingly dreadful to split his party sufficiently to call another one.

I lack the imagination to guess what that would be.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/12/2019 19:35

placemats
Sorry to hear about your Mum

BigChocFrenzy · 15/12/2019 19:38

Poster I'm so sorry about your lost money 💐
That's so bloody mean
I'd probably use a lot worse words than "vile" if I were skint and then deliberate Tory policy was taking some of the little I had

I thought even Tories claimed that they didn't want to cut benefits for the disabled
but no big surprise the reality on the ground is different

thecatfromjapan · 15/12/2019 19:39

Your mum does sound great, Placemats.

Honey, I hope the news gets better. ❤️

TatianaLarina · 15/12/2019 19:43

I fail to see what difference it makes what my demographic is.

Fleshes you out as a voter and a person.

DaydreamingDay · 15/12/2019 19:44

I hope your mum is ok Placemats. She sounds immense!!

I was so happy to see the Alliance and SDLP do so well...I love Naomi and it was fantastic to see Claire Hanna win. I think she is fantastic - so down to earth and motivated. I can't help it, I have so many hopes for NI now, I honestly think they have a chance. With the DUP holding the cards before and groups so entrenched it was difficult but with the rise of Alliance I don't think we will see those days again.

TatianaLarina · 15/12/2019 19:45

Good wishes to your mum placemats x

thecatfromjapan · 15/12/2019 19:48

Just That's grim. Really.

Bearbehind · 15/12/2019 19:49

tatiana I’m a Remainer, I think leaving the EU is the most pointlessly destructive thing this country has done in several generations

But, we lost the referendum and all our side has done since is bicker and block and patronise.

Those who continue to do that are just making life hard for themselves

The opportunity existed to change the course of Brexit but the lack of opposition meant the Tories get to define what happens next.

I’d rather know what’s coming, however shite it is, than continue in this never ending limbo that Labour planned to prolong (whilst bankrupting the country with its free giveaways)

BigChocFrenzy · 15/12/2019 19:53

Hey, thecat I hope you are also feeling Ok

fwiw, the campaign didn't make me want to turn Labour, but then neither did Smith, Blair or any Labour leader

  • because I'm a centrist, not a socialist, so nothing could

However, it has made me despise this hard right English Nationalist cabal that have taken over the Tory party

Unlike most here, I wasn't bothered in the least when John Major won in 1992, because he's a decent bloke and the lunatic Tory fringe was small then

However, the current bunch of shits, their dirty tricks during the GE, the demands that all the losers stfu and give in do make me concerned about what BJ and his cabal will do
especially if they end up with a v hard Brexit, a crashed economy and an angry disillusioned public

imo, that's the main reason why Corbyn and the far left, like the far right, want Brexit:
economic disaster and resulting social unrest is their only way to power

When deciding on the next Labour leader, keep in mind that they may need the abilities and strength to cope in that kind of national crisis

  • so don't assume you've got 2 or 3 electoral cycles to sort out the party & leadership, as after 1983
chomalungma · 15/12/2019 19:55

Speaking about gloating - I really really hope the Government doesn't have a Brexit 'day' with fireworks and celebrations - it would be really rubbing it into half the population - plus a lot of Scotland - who really aren't happy about this.

We are leaving - but it's very reluctant for a lot of the people and I hope that the Government doesn't make a big celebration. No doubt most of the media will make a big thing of it.

dontcallmelen · 15/12/2019 19:58

PMK as ever thank you everyone Place best wishes for your Mum she sounds awesome💐
I’m still reeling & trying my best to stay away from the MSM (thankfully not on FB) until I can cope a bit better.

Westminstenders: The only way forward is up.
yolofish · 15/12/2019 19:59

chomalungma that really is a nightmare thought. I would imagine they won't do it though, because things might really kick off? but who knows...

thecatfromjapan · 15/12/2019 20:04

That's absolutely spot on, BigChoc.

And it's another facet of why I'm in complete despair.

I truly believe the group who have 'power of attorney' over Corbyn want many of the same things Cummings is going after- hard Brexit, restructured civil service, restructuring of constitution, media controls.

That's one reason they're prepared to dig in deep.

I honestly don't see them going any time soon.

It's why Murphy, Milne, McDonnell, Corbyn haven't resigned.

That is extremely bad news for all of us.
