The message I'm getting from a close LAB-CON marginal and a close CON-LD one is that there's a marked increase in young people to turning out to vote compared with same time period at GE2017

The LAB-CON one is Bedford and the CON-LD one is Wokingham

I sincerely hope that Deadwood Redwood is given the boot. He was a nasty person as an Oxfordshire County Councillor, and his years as an MP haven't improved him. He ought to have gone at the same time as Portillo, but sadly, he managed to hang on.

Interesting to hear about the long queues everywhere. Does this mean higher turnout or is it because people have other things to do later with it being so close to Christmas, or they just don't fancy going out in the dark, so are going to the polls earlier than they normally would? 🤔

Morning all, delurking.

I have always been at least a thread and a half behind but have read most of what's been posted, so thanks to previous contributors for food for thought. Particularly enjoyed the electoral calculus stuff as I'm a map geek.

DD's school is closed today (polling station) so we're about to go and vote (Labour - safe seat here in any case). I'm in the same line of work as Squid (not A&E though) and I've seen so much potentially avoidable illness and distress due to poverty/hunger/homelessness, it's hideous.

Other than that, I feel a bit lost and powerless today. Looking forward to keeping up with the thread for once.

Clerk said it was v busy, onto second "book" already, usually only get through 3. Said the counting will take longer than usual.... worth noting re when results in - she was saying not til 5am here.

Just the thread we need,
so the normal Westministenders thread doesn't get clogged up - but I expect there will still be a mixture

I'm expecting a Tory working majority of 30-40, so hopefully well below the Survation %s

There could be all kinds of surprises though,
as I don't know how well national or local polls can handle this extraordinary Brexit redrawing / reversal of chunks of the normal political map

I'd love most of the Independent ex-Tories to win their seats, because they would be a great loss of talent & decency in the right of centre
However, local polls suggest otherwise
If they all go, then there remains only the hard right vs everyone in the centre and left

The top priority after the GE must be for the right of centre to take back the Conservative party from the neofascists who've taken it over.

And feeling a sense of dread. I have lived through many, many elections and have never felt like this before.

DH and I postal-voted a couple of weeks ago (SNP).

So thankful not to be in London any longer - although I gladly lent my support to the Labour party when we did.

All DC have now voted - even undecided DD - and they have all voted Labour.

God save us from what is coming...

I'm in a safe Labour seat too. Voted this morning and there were queues/they said it was busy and were expecting a busy day ...

Just took 93yr Mum to vote in Chingford and Woodford Green, she’s registered blind. In a very loud voice she said, “Which box to vote Labour and get that Iain Duncan-Smith dickhead out?" A cheer went up from waiting voters.

DD was queuing to vote with two sixth-formers from Manchester Grammar, both slagging Johnson off.

Voted. Very low turn out so far, but always is. Very safe Con seat but miracles can happen.

I've never thought of schoolchildren voting before. I don't think there were any elections while I was in school and old enough to vote. I can't imagine I'd have voted sensibly anyway though.

In fact i don't think I'd have considered myself informed enough to vote, and I wouldn't have been bothered enough either.

That was well before t'internet and facebook though I suppose - and 24 hr TV news for that matter.
