Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Morning all!

Meh, that’s all I have to say today! Lol!

We are waiting for info on RL shit at the moment, so just feeling like we are in a no mans land this week, with that and the election! I think I’m the least festive I’ve ever been, (and I really need to clean my damn house) anyone else? Here’s hoping, this long week from hell, will be over quickly so life can begin to return to normal! 😬😬😬🙏😂🎄

How are you all today? Are your lives functioning normally? Or am I the only one in this crazy funk... 😂

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 08:08

No, not just you, Epic. Yesterday I ticked off the worst job on my to-do list Wink and today I'm going to tackle the house.

It will keep me away from the news channels.

Hope the RL madness is sorted out very soon. The uncertainty must be the worst. Always a 🍷 and 🍰 and 🍫 here for you, as and when you need them.

Morning folks! Full English with extra black pudding please.

Fingers crossed for your real lift shit, Epic Flowers

Also hope those polls are right, not counting my chickens though. Could be a very lonely Christmas for Comrades Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott! They'll be eating a marrow-based Christmas dinner and playing Socialist Monopoly, where you start off with no money but earn £200 by dint of completing a shift in the jam factory. You can't buy any properties because the state has confiscated them all. But you pay rent (the same rent) on all of them, because they've all got huge rat-infested tower blocks built. The best bit is where you get sent to jail, it's a welcome change of scene. The game never finishes, there's no winner (except the state) Grin

DustyDiamond · 09/12/2019 08:25

💐 Epic

Will go have a look at Hey Tories thread later..!

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 08:33

Morning, Limer.

Mmm, the best black puddings are from Bury. Fact.

Full English when you're ready.

Thanks guys!

☺️☺️☺️😘

That hey tories thread is tres hilaire, I mean, why don’t they get it? If you want to win people over to your way of thinking, attacking and insulting them is hardly going to do it is it? Honestly, It’s so funny. They are the masters of their own demise.

Please please please let the polls be right!

Shy Tories Unite!

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 08:56

I think I may have inadvertently killed the thread! Grin

They hate being challenged in any way, don't they? They go straight to projection.

Roll on Friday!

Morning all. I haven't been in for a while but have been reading along.
I'm glad we're into the final 3 days, this election period has felt very long hasn't it? I'm also hoping the polls are right Epic but also feels like anything could happen in the next 3 days especially another freebie offer out of the Labour magic hat.

I saw John McDonnell on Andrew Marr this sunday just gone. That man gives me the creeps. He has a way of smoothing over every question as though Labour has all the answers, but actually there are holes across their manifesto which Marr didn't really drill into.
After that there was a programme about the election in the north west which was interesting. Jo Swinson hasnt been to the north west at all and Corbyn hasnt been up since the beginning of the campaign. I found that quite interesting given Labour needs the NW stronghold vote to hold up - does he just not care or is that he's so polarising he's staying away?

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 09:06

Morning, Holly.

I read the other week that Jezza has been told just how this his name is on the doorsteps of the North West so he's staying away and letting the Northern MPs with strong Leave constituencies - Lisa Nandy, Wigan, being a named example - do all the talking for him.

That won't wash with Northern voters, of course. They've noticed. It hasn't de-toxified his reputation.

XingMing · 09/12/2019 09:29

I've been on Are the Tories Really this Popular? It's been challenging in an interesting way. Asked what I'd like to see in a future manifesto, I discovered that I am actually a radical one nation tory!

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 09:41

Very radical, Xing! UBI? Way too radical for me! Still, we are a broach church here Smile

I suspect there will be another bullshit ‘press’ conference, waving around some new and exciting dodgy russian reddit papers. Hmm

😴 😴 😴

Hollycatberry · 09/12/2019 10:05

Lily very true, I live in NW and the Labour MP had no mention of JC nor brexit in his leaflet. I imagine that omission is very deliberate and I wouldn't say we are in a strong leave area (it was 50/50 ish).

Epic yes cannot wait for JC and momentum to find another batch of russian planted papers to claim the Tories are up to some other evil plan. Honestly its beyond parody now.

I follow quite a sarcastic, scathing political twitter account, who said if Labour get in on Friday 13th Dec to take the day off as it will soon be law to have it off anyway. Kind of liking that advice. Will give me time to get the bank and withdraw my savings too!

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 09/12/2019 10:07

So Mao-zeDonnell is speaking in a bit (sky)

Apparently he is ‘expected’ to set out the planned budget, this could be interesting.

Also, the press plan to ask him about an anticipated ‘run on the pound’ if they take leadership.

Wow, at this rate we will go bankrupt quicker than I thought...

ajandjjmum · 09/12/2019 10:09

Followed by an offer of a free car for all!

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 10:22

Ah but it might be a rusty old Trabant.

There's always a choice with a Labour government.

The choice is: take it or leave it. Smile

From Sir John Curtice, writing in The Times today:

"If the polls are to be believed, Boris Johnson is still on course to win a comfortable majority on Thursday. Five polls published over the weekend put the party ten points ahead of Labour on average — not only in line with the equivalent figure across all the pollss_ last week but also consistent with the position at the start of the campaign. Such a lead would be expected to deliver 350 or so seats."

He points out that this is comparable, in pure numerical terms, with Maggie's first victory in 1979 when she swept to power with a majority of 43 seats. However, he also points out that the underlying demographics are very different. Mrs Thatcher's main support came from the middle classes. Boris's support is higher with the working classes.

I see he is visiting five Northern Leave Labour seats today, including Sunderland and Grimsby, to deliver a final push on his key messages.

Jezza would need a map to find his way there.

Courage, mes braves.

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 11:08

And in more good news...

The postman has just been. No LibDem spam.

I can't believe it! None at all. Do you think they got the message?

By the way, it might be cold, wet and windy out there but it's not winter yet. The village postman is still wearing shorts. We only know when it's positively Arctic when he wears long trousers. Last year, we had heavy snowfall and it brought the village to a complete halt. A delivery driver got his van stuck outside the village shop and we had to help push. The postman was still wearing shorts though.

Someone whose business has a gross profit of £30,000 would pay an extra £2,172 in tax, while someone with a gross profit of £50,000 would be down £4,517

More Labour lies about only people earning over £80k being taxed more. Why aren't the tories hammering this home in the last few days? It's plumbers and hairdressers that will be bearing the cost of free broadband for the middle classes and reduced rail tickets for commuters in to London FGS.

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 11:14

A good question, Holly, but I'm guessing because the focus is on the Northern Leave seats held by Labour and so the big sell today is controlled immigration rather than business (I speak as a Northerner born and bred). Priti Patel has made a big push on immigration and crime in the Telegraph but I'm reading that as a plea to keep her job post-election.

It's perfectly possible we might lose a couple of big hitters (possibly even Dusty's Dom) so a mini reshuffle might be planned just in case but it would give cover to other bigger changes.

A warm welcome for everyone at the brexit arms:
EU migrants have been able to “treat the UK as if it’s part of their own country” for too long, Boris Johnson said yesterday as he reprised the core message of Vote Leave’s 2016 EU referendum campaign. (The times today)
Obviously PM no longer giving warm welcome to EU Citizens
My social media is full of EU citizens who have lived here decades and have british family and are feeling very very upset

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 09/12/2019 11:44

Total tangent, but aren’t dogs amazing?

Feeling absolutely 😭😭😭 today, (and that scary mao lover isn’t helping) and my beautiful doggo is right up under my chin, giving me all the love in the world. It’s the little things sometimes... ☺️

🐶 ❤️

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 09/12/2019 11:51

Whatever Milky, I honestly don’t care about these overblown headlines anymore, I have no idea of the context and am honestly past caring now. It’s fucking Mad max out there in the press. It’s all bullshit on both sides. Over it. I have more than enough shit going down in my own life to lose my shit. over every. single. Spin. headline.

They are all twats, I choose the twat I think will not bankrupt the country. Get. Over. It.

ENOUGH. Make it fucking stop.

AutumnRose1 · 09/12/2019 12:08

@Milkywayfan

do you have a share token for that please?

MeganBacon · 09/12/2019 12:26

Morning all Brew
Have been absent for a while due to crazy work pressure, being sick of all the headlines/debates and having sent off my postal vote yonks ago anyway. It's just nuts out there. Anyway, perspective restored, looking forward to it being over but very nervous. Y'all have been doing a great job of pointing out the many flaws in posts from various disgruntled posters - I dipped into the threads occasionally just to test the waters, and yep, still nuts.
