Brexit

The Brexit Arms. Is this Ben Elton? Is it free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone or a Corb-free Christmas 🎄?

Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Epic Flowers

When this GE is over, I'd love to see a non-political discussion on the future of the NHS. Without one side or the other levelling accusations at each other. Everyone has experienced it, as a worker, patient or relative, and everyone has views on what improvements could be made.

A bit sweary 😉 but totally on point! You can feel the betrayal
^"I defended you against those who called you weak,
Pro IRA,
A muppet,
I had your back when you were under attack,
And how do you repay me?,
You become a globalism f##kin puppet,
I fell for you anti-establishment line"

Love that video Belle he says exactly what me (and many millions of other Leavers) have been pointing out for the last three-and-a-half years.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7772183/Billionaire-Phones4U-founder-John-Caudwell-savages-Labours-tax-plans.html

I need to work out where I can watch the whole debate on this...

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 15:47

Dear God, Belle, I've just now watched that video.

If Boris and Dmitri don't do right by those voters, they'll have lost the likes of me too.

I watched my beloved North wither from 1997 to 2010, while all the money went to London and then the money ran out. Liam Byrne said it was a joke. It wasn't a joke.

And John Bloody Major is not off the hook either with his Euro dream and his ERM and his Black Wednesday and negative equity and redundancies.

Coppersulphate · 09/12/2019 16:05

Just watched that video Belle.
Thanks
I am also from the North with working class background.
After being made redundant by Militant Tendency in Liverpool I recognise the signs in Corbyn et al.

I have voted for Boris

mixtap · 09/12/2019 16:06

an even longer version of John Caudwell & McDonnell ...
www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07xbmbz

I find McDonnell's fake avuncular laughter quite terrifying. I think Corbyn is just a dimwit but I think McDonnell is quite frightening.

Coppersulphate · 09/12/2019 16:09

McDonnell reminds me of Derek Hatton in Liverpool in the '80's

Momentum is Militant Tendency rebranded

Hollycatberry · 09/12/2019 16:37

Reports coming in that a labour activist has been arrested for punching Matt Hancock’s advisor in Leeds today. Blimey.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 09/12/2019 16:39

“Reports coming in that a labour activist has been arrested for punching Matt Hancock’s advisor in Leeds today. Blimey”

😱

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 16:42

Presumably demonstrating a kinder gentler politics.

How do these people manage their every day lives if they are so filled with bile and hate? It must be exhausting being permanently on top note, surely.

OP posts:
Hollycatberry · 09/12/2019 16:42

And that labour paid for taxis for 100 activists to go and protest against the Health Secretary’s visit, which has resulted in said assault.

Kinder, gentler politics ehh.

Hollycatberry · 09/12/2019 16:43

Same thoughts lily !

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 16:44

SmileHolly.

Hope the advisor is OK. That's a nasty thing to have happen. Hope the police are dealing.

OP posts:
Hollycatberry · 09/12/2019 16:45

Indeed. Protesting is fine, but assembling a mob to dish out violence because a politician you don’t like is visiting is getting very low.

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 16:50

I'm convinced it's extinction burst, Holly.

I was watching John McDonnell giving his speech today. Colin Brazier kept peddling the myth that it was delivered with passion.

It really wasn't.

Watching it, you might have thought he'd won consolation prize in a "Wet Weekend in the Back End of Nowhere" contest. There was no life in his voice, just a mechanical drone. I think:

(a) the internal polling is dire, and;
(b) the postal votes are largely in and counted and the results are abysmal.

I remember when Blair announced an increase in VAT (17.5% to 20%?) purely to provide extra funds for the NHS. No-one minded, because they really thought it would make a difference. Needs to be run by someone outside of politics, who is experienced in running a large organisation and strong enough to stand up to politicians of any persuasion.

Any ideas?

SingingLily · 09/12/2019 17:21

Fellow Liverpudlian here, CopperSulphate 👋

Derek Hatton was a disgrace and his policies put the boot into Liverpool.

My aunt and two of my cousins were made redundant when the money ran out. Their redundancy notices were delivered by taxi, no expense spared.

Epic thank you for that comprehensive and very personal list of reasons why there was no ‘Golden Age’ of the NHS under Labour. I have a similar maternity experience which I won’t go into here, but it is so true that the flip side of a sometimes amazing free-at-the-point-of-use service can be degrading, thoughtless and dangerous regardless of who is in Govt.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 09/12/2019 17:34

Just a quick one on the hancock adviser, “punched” thing, theres a vid of Hancock leaving and there doesn’t seem to be any violence shown in that video at least, so I’m taking that one with a liberal pinch of salt for now I think! 😬

BelleHathor · 09/12/2019 17:41

🙏🙏🙏 Glad that the video resonated. That and also self-id is why I am lending my vote to Boris. I want to see the country succeed and ordinary people succeed. Although globalism may have caused the economy to grow the people least likely to have seen benefits are the working class, so change is needed. If Boris and Dmitri can bring this , then we are well on the way to "Making Britain Great Again!". Blair and Major are and have always been puppets to Globalism, happily jaunting off to secret meetings to subvert the will of the people. May their karma be appropriate 🤔
