Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

FishesaPlenty · 06/12/2019 16:49

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

I didn't post that Johnson forcibly grabbed it from him.

It's not just odd, it's abhorrent! Johnson spins a political broadcast out of the misery of a four year old child with pneumonia lying on coats in a hospital!

WTAF is going on here?

squid4 · 09/12/2019 18:50

hi

I've not caught up with news, so dunno what if anything happened today, but i'm just over it all.

Arrived at work today and there are supposed to be three medical doctors on call receiving patients from A&E. We had none. I covered and we spent the day trying to get more doctors from other wards or neighbouring hospitals. There wasn't anyone. They tried to get me to stay ofr the night too, but I'm on tomorrow

Patients had been waiting in A&E over 12 hours in some cases

The corridors were lined with trolleys of sick patients

There were swarms of paramedics waiting at the doors to A&E with sick patients they can't handover as there isn't anyone free to handover to.
They can't go back out with ambulances until they have handed over their patient.

Two nurses of 20 and 9 years told me they have never seen a winter as bad as this

This is not a big or especially busy hospital

This was a monday morning - not a busy time

It is only December

I am so angry. I am past despair. I ate at 6am and left for work before my kids were up, I missed their nativity today, I didn't get a break to eat or wee today. If people vote for this, I am done. I am quitting.

Election hustings called off after Tories threaten to report Girl Guide hall to charity bosses

To be absolutely clear, this child is four years old, with pneumonia lying on coats on the floor in an NHS hospital in the UK.

Squid

Night shifts can mess with your mind, especially when changed to day shifts. It is totally shit.

My constituency is STILL showing as 50:50 Labour / Lib Dem on the tactical voting sites.
Do I just go with my preference, or follow the last election figures?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/12/2019 18:56

I am waiting for the Tory propaganda machine to suggest that the NHS having patients on trolleys in corridors has been deliberately organised by "anti-Conservative doctors".

Peregrina · 09/12/2019 18:56

Out today in Oxford East I counted two green posters, 1 Labour Stakeboard and 1 LibDem.

In Oxford West and Abingdon, I counted 16 LibDem from two long roads. I think I have seen 1 Labour and haven't yet seen a Tory one. The local farmer usually has a Tory one up - nothing this time - maybe he doesn't want to drive his Christmas turkey customers away.

In OxWAb - it's partly because we have a good team of people going out banging the stakeboards up.

dontcallmelen · 09/12/2019 18:57

Squid I have nothing that will make you feel any better, except sincere admiration for all that you & your colleagues do for us all I’m so sorry you are having such an awful time💐

pinboard · 09/12/2019 18:59

squid4
that sounds awful - you sound so done in and hopeless :(
I honestly think if the Tories get in with a decent majority on Friday that it will affect my MH. Not only as I am disabled as are both my kids and we are on benefits (terrifying, frankly, but so was my last job providing MH support, contracted out from the NHS and absolutely appalling) but also because i will literally feel depressed at the fact so many seem content enough to vote for others to have to endure this.

ListeningQuietly · 09/12/2019 19:00

DGRosetti
That Tory / Guides thing is pure bullying
there is no requirement on charities to vet who pays to hire their halls
the Guides should have called their bluff
sadly due to Tory cuts, the CC has no staff to refute such actions

yolofish · 09/12/2019 19:02

squid nothing helpful to say, but here's a large Wine. When my DM spent 5 months dying last year the best people we met were the paramedics and A&E staff. Flowers

(((((( Squid4 ))))))

Pinboard - do not just trust the websites - what is the mood in the local shops in your area?

pinboard · 09/12/2019 19:11

LIsteningQuietly - I hardly get out, being disabled, so I'm not sure :(

Last election it was Tories 1st (by a big margin) then Labour, then LIbDem not far behind them. Something like 48%, 24%, 20%?

I'd prefer to vote Labour. I suspect the Tories will get back in here :(

borntobequiet · 09/12/2019 19:14

Construction apprentices today for Maths. These are robust young men who don’t mince their words. BJ is (fucking) disgusting, a (fucking) idiot, a (fucking) twat, a liar. A (fucking) rich git who doesn’t give a shit about ordinary people.
I really didn’t have to say a word. These guys are registered to vote, and will do so.

ContinuityError · 09/12/2019 19:19

Boris was looking very tired in that video

He’s struggling more than usual to string a coherent sentence together.

And Flowers Flowers for squid4.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 19:20

If labour were in second and you would prefer to vote labour then probably go with your heart pinboard - and hope maybe some tories who refuse to vote Corbyn will vote Lib Dem and bring down the tory lead that way.

ChristmassySpice · 09/12/2019 19:20

Jesus squid I have no words of comfort for you. Except to say that we all get what you are going through here.
What I don't get is the fact that around 50% plus of the country either don't get it or don't give a shit. No matter how educated they are, they will probably vote Tory. As others have said, it will probably affect our mental health. I'm worried for my daughter, I want to run away. I have a Labour sign in my front garden, but I know I'm going to wake up on Friday to potentially 5 more years of fucking misery. How the hell did it come to this?

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 19:22

"this child is four years old, with pneumonia lying on coats on the floor in an NHS hospital in the UK" Angry

I expect that to happen in desperately poor developing countries, in war zones - and it's not OK there either -
Not the UK

Peregrina · 09/12/2019 19:28

They also say that Johnson refused to look at the picture of the child lying on the floor with a drip, but instead pocketed the phone a reporter was trying to show it to him on

Let's hope that this, if nothing else, cuts through to those undecided voters.
