Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

What do you do when you have a really bad interview?

Try and create a bigger story.

The future of the bBc is not the issue at this time. Bj is trying to deflect from his awful interview with Joe Pike earlier.

The treatment of a 4 year old boy in a hospital so starved of funds that he lies on a makeshift bed of coats with suspected pnuemonia is the story.

This is not the fault of the A&E staff. This is the fault of the party of govt for the last 9 1/2 years.

Don't let him bury this story.

Pan I reckon after the basement it’s the subterranean cellar of fucking insults & total crassness beyond belief still lurking in there☹️
DG so sorry that just sort of sums up what life is like now for many of us.

DGRossetti · 09/12/2019 16:05

Don't get me wrong -it's great that all of a sudden there's a glut of BB spaces (until the managing company use that as an excuse to remove them).

But the unescapable truth is that previous to the change in procedure, whereby "badge holders" were just waved out by flashing a badge, a considerable number of absolute cunts were abusing someones badge for 30 pieces of silver.

These are cunts we pass in the street. We mix with them in crowds. They move beneath us, they live amongst us. These are the people that assault paramedics and firemen. And it's these people who benefit most from a compassionate society, since if I ruled the world, they'd be taken out with a bullet billed to their families.[1]

[1]hyperbole.

Quite the interesting poll there MShip

I'm going to have to go 'OOOF!' for the Independents standing, even though I wish them well.

TheMShip · 09/12/2019 16:50

It's not a poll, it's the median of the seat predictions of the members of the polling professional association, based on underlying polling data. A significant chunk show large Tory majority outcomes. But I thought it was interesting as a small majority seems to be the rough average Westminstenders prediction.

This is the woman who asked Boris Johnson about why they set up the
fake labour manifesto and paid for it to appear higher on search results (to which the blubberous haystack replied he hadn't the foggiest what was going on there)

mobile.twitter.com/PaulBrandITV/status/1204047116341002241

She's very eloquent and heartfelt as the reporters swarm round her to interview her. And her message is the same as every ordinary person's when they get a chance to be heard: don't trust Boris Johnson.

Meanwhile down in Bristol:

twitter.com/Corbynator2_0/status/1204041106343763975

The crowds gathered to listen to Jeremy Corbyn speak.

TheMShip · 09/12/2019 16:57

From Chris Cook on Twitter:

From today's @tortoise newsletter: here's a graph showing all the GB seats. Left-right axis has the safest Tory seats at left, impregnable opposition seats at right, marginals are clustered in the middle. Leavey places higher up. Remainy places low down. (1/4) t.co/dD0Fx3omMd

The YouGov MRP showed the seats coloured with hard colours changing hands. So the blue polygon roughly shows where the battleground has been assumed to be. Labour-held seats with outsized leave-voting contingents. (2/4) t.co/PKqRrDUVM6

But if you mark in the last two weeks of leader visits, the PM (black crosses) appears to be avoiding that zone. As is Corbyn (red crosses). They're both focussed on narrow Tory defences. PM's visit today to Chingford fits that pattern. (3/4) t.co/DxYvgIDdbK

Possible that personal appeal of both men is not good - but the Tory marginals are not wildly different from Labour held ones, so why go to one but not other? Could be that these things don't matter. But last time, it showed us where the Tories thought the race was. (4/4)

Images attached.

It seems to me that a working majority could be obtained by an opposition party. That seat prediction gives the Tory Government NOC.

Wow that is some crowd at Bristol.

Andrew Neil and some chickens waiting for Boris Johnson at Grimsby fish market this morning. Grin

WOW! Icantreach That is one mighty turn out there in Bristol. Who said the winter would have a low turnout?

Well done that woman for speaking out so bravely against Johnson. I wish her and her son well.

longtimelurkerhelen · 09/12/2019 17:15

This is why I can't understand the Torys being so far ahead in the polls. Everywhere Johnson goes, he gets boos and stuff thrown at him, whereever Corbyn goes there are cheers and massive crowds.

Twitter hates the Torys, yet still they are way ahead????

Please can someone explain it to me?

ThatSeventiesLass · 09/12/2019 17:17

I got shivers looking at that crowd. So many young people, too. Maybe our future isn't to be written off just yet.

Ellie56 · 09/12/2019 17:20

I don't understand either longtimelurker. Confused

placemats · 09/12/2019 17:20

longtime I think the polls are meant to subdue the opposition if I'm honest, especially in England.

There is a theory that the current polls are based on the 2016 Brexit outcomes, which is a flaw in the current political climate. There was a link to a twitter thread that brilliantly explained this, several pages back. Sorry, I can't help with a link.

dontcallmelen · 09/12/2019 17:24

Me either longtimelurker most of the news segments always seem to feature either Boris is the second coming & cant vote labour due to Corbyn yet twitter & gatherings mainly show very good support for Labour.

TheMShip · 09/12/2019 17:34

Great succinct piece by David Allen Green on lying to voters and fascism.

"there are more food banks than McDonald’s branches in the UK" Shock

Dreadful

NarfZort · 09/12/2019 17:35

I got a very pointed "he's voting Labour" from a girl of about 12 when I asked her older brother which way he was thinking of voting the other day. Grin

The kids growing up towards voting age now seem to have soaked up so much. Much more than I did 40 years ago.

Venture onto Twitter and the support for Labour is everywhere. Even on the Daily Mail website the comments are not the usual fawning Tory.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 17:42

2 main factors that will decide the next govt

  1. whether the Tories gain their 50+ Labour target seats in the Midlands, Northern England & Wales, that they need for a working majority
They have to compensate for estimated 20+ seat losses to SNP and LDems, as well as overcoming their 2017 seat deficit

  2. whether the SNP and especially LDems actually manage those 20+ gains from the Tories

longtimelurkerhelen · 09/12/2019 17:43

Twitter is painted red no doubt. I even started following right wing types as I thought I was in an echo chamber, but even the conservatives threads are mostly people being anti tory.
