Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

FishesaPlenty · 06/12/2019 16:49

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

I got a very pointed "he's voting Labour" from a girl of about 12 when I asked her older brother which way he was thinking of voting the other day.

DS works shifts and is getting off at 7:00 Thursday ... he took me up on my offer to give him a lift to the polling station. I didn't pry into how he's voting, but unprompted he said "Labour, like my mates". Apparently, they don't want a fucking idiot for PM.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 17:43

So rather than the poll headline overall percentages, it is the distribution of votes among the more marginal seats for both Labour and Tory

moominmomma1234 · 09/12/2019 17:46

It’s going off on LK twitter feed

Wow what a sweeeping statement

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 17:48

We can't go by criticism of any leader, whether online or in public,
because we have never before had such unpopular leaders for the 3 main parties

Only the hardcore supporters are enthused by their own leader
The question is how many others will hold their noses and vote for the party / leader they would least fear to see in govt

  • and of course whether Remainers take the advice of John Major & Tony Blair to vote tactically this GE for whoever has the best chance of defeating the Tories Definitely nose-holding required there
longtimelurkerhelen · 09/12/2019 17:49

@moominmomma1234 What did it say, it's gone now.

moominmomma1234 · 09/12/2019 17:51

From LK Twitter :
“So Matt Hancock was despatched to Leeds General (sorry not just Leeds Hospital), to try to sort out mess, hearing Labour activists scrambled to go + protest, and it turned nasty when they arrived - one of them punched Hancock's adviser”

Sorry I don’t know how to copy from twitter
Anyway she has had to put up a video showing that it was not a punch

No he walked into the fella's pointing hand.

thecatfromjapan · 09/12/2019 17:56

She also quoted some Tory source saying activists were paid to go there and protest.

She's ...

🤷‍♀️

Dead chatting for all she's worth.

I'm supposed to be on a social media break ...

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 17:59

because we have never before had such unpopular leaders for the 3 main parties

we're told JC is unpopular. We're told he's unelectable. we're shown polls (where we don't actually know the raw data behind them) that show he is less popular than Boris.

But I posted a clip this morning of a reporter who had been following him around for the day saying everywhere he went he was treated like a rock star.
That crowd in Bristol cannot be entirely made up of momentumites.
The public response he gets is very different to the one Boris gets when they go out and meet people.
From my own personal experience, neither me nor my family members were Corbynites - we despaired back in May and voted Lib Dem - but we are all happy to support labour now and would like to see Corbyn as PM.

We are told time and again how unpopular is. But - considering all the other bias we imbibe - and the evidence of my own eyes, I can't help but wonder if that is simply a narrative the polls and the beeb and the print media are pushing because they are so afraid of him.

(admittedly Boris and Jo do seem to be genuinely unpopular)

Have video from Hancock leaving Leeds General just come through so you can see for yourself - doesn’t look like punch thrown, rather, one of Tory team walks into protestor’s arm, pretty grim encounter

Nothing grim about it at all. Surely the headline should be "Hancock's advisor doesn't look where he's going"

Dicks

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 18:02

Leeds GH

Leeds General Infirmary

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 18:05

How can someone walking into someone else's arms be classed as 'a pretty grim encounter'.

She's become a parody of her self. And she can't get the name of a hospital - with big signs all over it telling you its name - right. That's pretty shonky journalism right there!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/12/2019 18:13

Even the Daily Mail is saying

"Tory sources at first said a protester hit one of Mr Hancock's senior advisers - understood to be Jamie Njoku-Goodwin - in the face. However, footage later emerged suggesting it was an accidental collision."

They also say that Johnson refused to look at the picture of the child lying on the floor with a drip, but instead pocketed the phone a reporter was trying to show it to him on! (Thought they do say he later gave it back to its owner.)

"And in a bizarre spat earlier, Boris Johnson took an ITV reporter's phone and put it in his pocket after being confronted with the picture."
"But when ITV reporter Jo Pike tried to show him the picture of the boy on his phone, Mr Johnson declined to look at it. He eventually took the device and put it in his pocket, "

Mad.

So let me get this straight.

Boris Johnson pocketed a phone from a reporter from ITN?

WTAF is going on here?

HesterThrale · 09/12/2019 18:35

There are many angry people around at the moment, desperate for change. Let's hope they all vote - it's the only power they have.

Senior politicians will gather at the University of York today to take part in a BBC Question Time Election Special – Under 30s debate

Neither Johnson nor Corbyn attending this debate. It's interesting how many of them Swinson and Price do in person. Personally I'd like to see a different LD: maybe Brake or Davey?

The audience will be under 30, so there could be some challenging questions about the climate crisis, jobs, student debt and housing.

Violetparis · 09/12/2019 18:36

Furious with Laura K and Peston spreading fake news today.

NarfZort · 09/12/2019 18:40

It wasn't quite like that. He didn't grab it from him forcibly.

twitter.com/joepike/status/1204018593656180736

He takes it from him at about 45s in.

Very odd though.

NarfZort · 09/12/2019 18:42

It's like he pocketed the phone like a flyer, to put in the next bin 'look at later'.

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/12/2019 18:43

Boris was looking very tired in that video where he takes the ITN reporter's phone.
He's come across surprisingly robotic across the campaign . All these sound bites and turning everything back to Brexit.
Pleased that the core message of the Tories has been troubled a little by the DEXEU leak. The Tory campaign is actually very fragile - since it relies on once simple core message about getting Brexit done - messages that contradict that (should) hold some weight.

placemats · 09/12/2019 18:44

I've just seen the video:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-matt-hancock-faces-shouts-21060085

It's a man on a bike having angry words.
