Westministenders: Promises, promises

BigChocFrenzy · 17/11/2019 17:46

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

I have a Jewish Dad. This is as real to me as Self-ID. And, naturally, my daughter.

ContinuityError · 18/11/2019 18:09

PM gives "an absolutely categorical assurance" that Sajid Javid will remain as Chancellor if he wins the election.

Boris will definitely sack him then Smile

Dusty01 · 18/11/2019 18:11

Well I'm a quiet regretful leave voter. I'm not quiet about it here but I am in real life.

I'm not staying at home on election day because I want to undo the damage I was party to in the referendum. I'm also furious that I was lied to (didn't do proper research I admit - but I still feel strongly that leavers were lied to).

BigChocFrenzy · 18/11/2019 18:12

Small parts of the Labour party are anti Semitic
Large parts of the Tory party are Islamophobic
All of UKIP are racist
All of the Brexit party are anti immigrant
Some parts of the LDems & Greens have tolerated paedophile sympathisers

There is currently no party which does not have something deeply immoral and toxic which I despise
I refuse to accept that everyone should stay home and not vote

Your hair is on fire
You know your local fire brigade is racist
Just burn ?

It feels as if the election campaign has finally got going. The appearances at the CBI made it possible to differetiate the candidates.

In Business terms, BJ is in sales, JoJo in Marketing, and JC is that drony bloke from HR.

Dusty01 · 18/11/2019 18:15

Bellini - I have a disabled daughter and there is no way that I'd vote Tory. I am terrified of what the future will hold for her if they get in.

Have people see this yet? It shows how personal the choice of who you vote for will be this time. It's impossible to guess what is going to happen.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 18:16

I'm not staying at home. They don't get that gift. They get to know I went to the trouble of casting my vote but, as I am proposing to write NONE on my paper, they get to wonder why they didn't attract my vote.
And if I am just one and no one gives a shit, not much I can do.

Hoooo · 18/11/2019 18:16

Yes you were lied to, dusty
I'm hope others like you don't stay at home, although I do understand why confidence in the political parties are at an all time low any why many may stay at home...

BigChocFrenzy · 18/11/2019 18:17

When Tory posters refuse to condemn Tory Islamophobia we can only conclude that - like most of the Tory party - they either support it, or don't think it important

Maybe such Tory posters believe this sort of thing:

https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/boris-johnson-incapable-tory-party-islamophobia-problem

"A YouGov poll earlier this year unveiled the chilling finding that
two thirds of Tory members believe parts of Britain operate under sharia law.

YouGov adds that
almost half of Tories believed in the myth of no-go zones where “non-Muslims are not able to enter”

"They get to know I went to the trouble of casting my vote but, as I am proposing to write NONE on my paper, they get to wonder why they didn't attract my vote. "

Bellinisurge they will not give a damn why you didn't bother to put a cross next to a candidate of your choice. Really, they won't. They'll barely notice.
You'll just be recorded as a spoilt vote, they don't bother to note why or to differentiate between deliberately and accidentally spoilt.

If you really, really can't vote - even considering it according to candidate and not national party - then they seem to take more notice of those who didn't bother to vote at all. They're always trying to engage non-voters, aren't they? They don't care why votes were spoilt.

Dusty01 · 18/11/2019 18:55

It's true bellini - they don't care why votes are spoilt. They won't notice a spoiled vote - which is wrong because those should be counted as well. They are in some other countries, I think.

ArseDarkly · 18/11/2019 18:56

I am proposing to write NONE on my paper

What will that achieve?

Hoooo · 18/11/2019 18:56

They simply wont care bellini

Random18 · 18/11/2019 19:00

Bellini from previous posts I think you have the luxury to spoil your vote.

In my constituency it's a really uphill battle to get shot of our nodding dog.

So I need to go and vote for a party and leader I do not support anymore.

The alternative does not bear thinking about. It's basically life or death for some people.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 19:03

If I thought tbe Brexit Party had a shot in my constituency (it is a Labour Leave constituency, ) I would vote Labour to keep those twats out.

Random18 · 18/11/2019 19:08

bellini yep.

I hate that I have to vote for Labour this time.

It really upsets me that as a country we have come so far in so many ways but racism / anti semitism/ Islamophobia and general tolerance of those that are different seems to be going backwards.

prettybird · 18/11/2019 19:09

I've managed to put my finger on the difference between BJ's bluster at the CBI Conference and Corbyn's speech (and their respective Q&A sessions): BJ thinks that he can present fluff and joke and charm his way through his bit (because he is soooooo charismatic Hmm) - the arrogance of Etonian Establishment, where he assumes that what he says will be believed, do matter that there is no real substance (or where he glosses over or lies about matters of substance); whereas Corbyn is calm & considered in both his presentation and his responses because he knows he has to be on top of his subject and come across well in order to be believed.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 19:09

In order of total bastardness, this is how I rate them:
1.Brexit Party

  1. Corbyn Party/Johnson Party
  2. Lib Dem/Green (Self ID shite)

Young left-wing Jews canvass for Labour candidate seeking to oust Boris Johnson

“However all racisms are interconnected and Jews cannot be safe while other minorities are under threat. Boris Johnson has incited a hateful and divisive politics that endangers all marginalised people. That is why being part of a group of British Jews who show solidarity with other communities is so important at this election.”

To all the Tory supporters coming on this thread to tell us how ridiculous we are. Labours policies will effect DH and I massively because he earns a very good income. We think some of labours policies are completely ridiculous- which I have been vocal on here about. Having said that we have friends across the spectrum and see the very real hardship caused by the Tory parties austerity.
I have probably been a left of center voter my whole life. My husband right of center.
Believe me when I say, that it is testimony to what a bunch of evil cunts are in Boris Johnson's cabinet that we will vote to keep them out. And if that means voting labour - so be it. We are watching our electorate to see what the best way to do that with our vote.

So certainly stay in your bubble - but you come on here and attack - but NEVER answer any serious questions about the dishonest fuckers that are in charge of that party.

Mistigri · 18/11/2019 19:31

Just scroll.

It's not about bubbles: there are leave voters who have posted quite happily on here, and a handful of Corbynistas who get it in the neck (much more so than leavers tbh, I think poster is a good sort even if I think she is wrong Grin).

It's about intentions.

Before replying, ask what the person is trying to do: have a conversation, or prevent one?

mrslaughan · 18/11/2019 19:34

Sorry @Mistigri - had a moment of rage...... will go back to ignoring

BigChocFrenzy · 18/11/2019 19:35

bellini Don't you have a LDem or Green alternative ?
This self-ID and ridiculous tolerance of AImee Challoner by both is shit, but imo not as bad as the racism of the big two

If not, writing "Both racist" may be cathartic.

Personally, I will be cheering on the ex-Tory rebel independents this GE, the ones who put their principals and their country ahead of their career
and probably Rory Stewart in London next year

Now the Tory party has been taken over by the hard right, we need a right of centre alternative
