John McDonnell's Who's Who entry in which he says his hobby is "fermenting the overthrow of capitalism". Erm...take a joke fgs Grin

John McDonnell in 2013 talking about the financial crisis of 2007–2008 and stating, "I've been waiting for this for a generation! We've got to demand systemic change. Look, I'm straight, I'm honest with people: I'm a Marxist."

I asked walking to point me to where they had stated their intention to overthrow capitalism, not quote me something which actually does not state that. And no quote from Corbyn either?

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 23:22

Corbyn has not once said this. He is still planning on negotiating another deal to leave the EU if he becomes PM.

Make your mind up! Either he's abandoned his aversion to the EU 'at the first whiff of power' or he's negotiating to leave.

Labour policy is to negotiate a deal and put it to a 2nd ref in which they will campaign to remain

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 23:26

Arse, given all the other truly nasty things McDonnell is on public record as saying, I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking he's joking. When he says he is a Marxist, I believe him. When he said he wants to "ferment the overthrow of capitalism", I believe him.

When Ken Livingstone said he had to sack John McDonnell from the GLC for setting an illegal budget and then trying to conceal it, I believed him as well.

John McDonnell too extreme for Red Ken? Seriously, that's so far off to the left, it's practically on the next planet.

As for Corbyn, the only quotes I can find are the anti-Semitic ones. I'm sure you don't want those regurgitated. Didn't the Survation poll for the Jewish Chronicle find that 85% of Jewish people are convinced he is anti-Semitic? Spoiler alert. I believe that too.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 23:34

Can you point me to where they have stated this intention?

Last year in a BBC interview John McDonnell was asked whether "overthrowing capitalism", which he used to list as a hobby, was now his job.

He replied "yes it is"

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 23:38

According to Walking Corbyn has stated that he wants to overthrow capitalism but no one can show me such a quote.

John McDonnell was sacked by Livingstone in 1985. 34 years ago! Haven't you got anything more up-to-date than that??

I have, from the financial times which I think I posted here already so apologies for that - I think it's a well-balanced but not approving assessment.

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 23:41

Nice work, Walkingdeadfangirl! I'm off to bed now and will have to leave you to it. I'm with you all the way though.

John McDonnell's words, the words from his own mouth, are indefensible.

Heaven help us all if he gets anywhere near power.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 23:44

Your ideas about Brown and the impact of the crash are really out of date and simplistic walking and don't explain why, after 9 years of terrible damaging austerity, debt is still enormous
Arse, do you really not understand what a deficit is, or are you just trolling?

Either he's abandoned his aversion to the EU 'at the first whiff of power' or he's negotiating to leave
Great question, perhaps Corbyn could actually give us an answer? What we do know is that he is against leaving and he is against saying he wants to remain. WTF does he actually want? Answer, he is out of his depth and is a dangerous puppet for the likes of McDonnell who is trying to destroy capitalism.

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 23:49

Why indefensible if that is what he believes? You don't have to agree with it but it's not 'indefensible'.

Many facets of capitalism are indefensible but we have been led to believe they are just an inevitable part of life in our country. I am glad to see people who still believe in the possibility of change are involved in the top level of politics, it's been a hell of a long time.

DustyDiamond · 16/11/2019 23:51

The abuse of Corbyn personally I have seen on here can really only be described as hate.

I hate him 🤷🏻‍♀️

As much as I can 'hate' someone that I don't actually know in real life anyway.
I cannot stand the man & the things he stands for.

Same goes wrt McDonnell - he has a very nasty streak from what I've seen.

Goodnight SingingLily.

Arse could you please stop misquoting me. I said "I wouldn't trust Corybn/John McDonnell ... are you happy with their stated intention to destroy capitalism?" And I have provide a link showing that intention dated 2018.

So are you happy with that plan?

Apparently according to Corbyn fanatics like arse:
Corbyn isn't an anti-Semite he just surrounds himself with anti-Semites.
Corbyn doesn't want to destroy capitalism he just surrounds himself with people that want to destroy capitalism.

At what point do the scales fall from your eyes? Or is Corbyn the second coming and can do no wrong? except end the world

ArseDarkly · 17/11/2019 00:06

Well, here we are again, stooping to spite and bile in place of discussion. It makes a mockery of the post from xingming yesterday -

This is, I think, an honest thread, open to opinions from across the terrain. If there are lurkers here, and there will be, could you offer a view?

Doubletrouble99 · 17/11/2019 00:08

Walking, I think Arse is trying to tell us she agrees with JC and JM in that the over throwing of Capitalism is a good thing!

ArseDarkly · 17/11/2019 00:12

Do you believe the NHS should be privatised?

DustyDiamond · 17/11/2019 00:13

stooping to spite and bile

🤔 🧐 🤨

Your definition of 'spite and bile' and my definition of 'spite and bile' are wildly different...!

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/11/2019 00:15

Doubletrouble99 I agree I think she really is. But she still isn't defending the policies that involves.

Yes of course some parts of capitalism aren't great and should/can be improved. The fact being that no country in the world has a better system than capitalism to do that.

How does turning the UK into Venezuela improve anything?

DustyDiamond · 17/11/2019 00:19

Do you believe the NHS should be privatised?

Which party has proposed this?

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/11/2019 00:21

Do you believe the NHS should be privatised?
Nope, dont think anyone in this pub has ever even suggested it (what I think you mean anyway). And I dont think any political party standing for election in the UK is proposing it. Yet Corbynites keep raising it. Why is that?

ArseDarkly · 17/11/2019 00:22

Walking - do you believe the NHS should be privatised? A state-funded NHS is against capitalist principles isn't it?

DustyDiamond · 17/11/2019 00:22

As Toyah once opined Walking - its a mystery...!

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/11/2019 00:25

Is it? when did god decree that?

Yip Dusty it is a mystery, only solved at the bottom of.... another drink please.

ArseDarkly · 17/11/2019 00:26

How about education Walking? Should that be completely private -funded?

ArseDarkly · 17/11/2019 00:29

Yeah...I thought we were at that point where you haven't got an answer - cue talking amongst yourselves, followed by memes and glitterballs

off to bed

No we should have a choice, just like we do with health care.

Arse You keep asking questions and yet NEVER answer ANY back. So until you are interested in an actual dialogue I shall assume you are a persistent flasher and I shall ignore you.
