I have already considered a NC to HateIsNotXing, for humourous reasons, but placating only one poster's irrational considerations doesn't completely fulfill my own NC criteria.

Besides, I Am do like I AM, my name, and quite like ArseDarkly as a name too. So, I'd rather keep my name, b

I Am

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 21:26

Completely agree that free internet is not most people's priority, although of course it hasn't been suggested before so never been discussed.

I think it would be more practical to offer it free to those on benefits/low income and small businesses but that doesn't fit with the Labour ethos of 'for the many'

Maybe you are not worried that someone with Corbyns political views will have control of our internet?

I am not at all worried about that. As Snowdon informed us, we are already constantly spied on by GCHQ and foreign governments. No doubt Russia and other powers are interfering with, and trying to control, our communications as well.

Corbyns has spent his life campaigning for freedom of speech and standing up against overbearing goverment.

HateIsNotGood

I offer you my sincere contrite apologies - doing a bit of a sherlock over your and xing's posts i think you would have to have superhuman typing speed to name change at that rate... SORRY! Blush

Anyway. Enough of that soppy stuff, back to 'I am'. i assume the carving is in honour of the great poem by John Clare, one of the most beautiful and heart-rending pieces of writing in all literature?

VeryGenuinequestions · 16/11/2019 22:05

Continuity in that case, all schools funded by the state need to be of private standard and then abolish private schools.

HateIsNotGood · 16/11/2019 22:12

Arse - accepted. As far as I know, the I Am refers to whatever the onlooker determines what I Am is, (Clare's description, yours, mine, anybody's) or maybe the Stone is declaring what it is to the onlooker. That's Art, apparently Grin.

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 22:21

Well that's disappointing!

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 22:27

Do you care about the UK going bankrupt

Walking I and many others really do. One of the main reasons so many people are against Brexit is for this very reason. We are already hopelessly debt-ridden and damaged by the disastrous policies of the Tory/Coalition governments, we can't afford at all to take risks with the stability of our country.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 22:30

ArseDarkly I agree it would possibly be sensible to offer it free to those on benefits/low income and small businesses. Sadly that doesn't fit the communist state Corbyn is trying to create, which is what scares me.

Spying on the internet is one thing. Giving a dictator Corbyn unrestricted ability to control the internet is a whole different ball game.

Corbyns has spent his life campaigning for freedom of speech and standing up against overbearing goverment That is one way to look at it. Another is to say he has spent his life trying to undermine our country, our way of life and our allies.

What has happened to his life long aversion to the EU, it crumbled the second he got a whiff of power. Even if he comes up with a sensible policy it would worry me because of how dangerous he is.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 22:34

We are already hopelessly debt-ridden and damaged by the disastrous policies of the Tory/Coalition governments, we can't afford at all to take risks with the stability of our country

And that is our difference, we are debt ridden because of Labours overspending and their banking crash. We cant take the risk with our country by letting Corbyn anywhere near the reigns of power. You think we have debt now, just imagine what destruction Corbyn would do.

Bearbehind · 16/11/2019 22:38

Oh and can I put a drink behind the bar for @Bearbehind, sounds like she is still getting a hard time by the other side. Money is in the honesty box.

Thank you 😘

It’s pretty brutal over there if your face doesn’t fit.

I think I’m staying in here from now on

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 22:41

Even if he comes up with a sensible policy it would worry me because of how dangerous he is.

Well that's the key thing - you detest him and therefore nothing he says or does, or any policies he introduces, will change that so there's really no discussion. You're free to hate him as much as you like but it's pointless asking questions when you know you're not interested in the answers.

I feel the same about Johnson by the way-I loathe everything about him so there's no policy he could invent that would ever get my vote

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 22:47

I had a look at The Other Place yesterday, Bearbehind, and admired you for trying to get your views across so clearly but there are some posters permanently stuck on "transmit" and not "receive".

When you're ready, I'll stand you another drink. SmileWine

ContinuityError · 16/11/2019 22:47

VeryGenuinequestions

Shouldn’t the Government be aspiring to ensure that all state schools provide an equally high standard of education? Why should your postcode determine how good your education will be? Why shouldn’t parents / children be given a choice of great schools at age 11 (in England), rather than vying to get into the least shit option?

And I’m not convinced that independent schools are necessarily a good benchmark - the Sutton Trust has found that state school pupils outperform independent school pupils with the same A level grades at university level for instance.

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 22:50

we are debt ridden because of Labours overspending and their banking crash

Walking that's not correct and you wouldn't have to google for long to find that out. Most Tories don't even bother trying to trot that out anymore though I notice Johnson still does, in his desperation. Debt rose massively under the last two governments. And the crash was part of a global financial disaster, not a 'Labour banking crash'.

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 22:51

You're free to hate him as much as you like

I'd be surprised if anyone here actually hates him, Arse. It's such a strong word and I'd find it difficult to use about someone I hadn't met personally.

I dislike what he stands for and I fear the consequences for our country if he became PM - no doubt you feel the same about Boris, and that's your right - but I don't hate him.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 22:54

you detest him and therefore nothing he says or does, or any policies he introduces, will change that so there's really no discussion
As a person I dont but as a PM definitely YES.

We can still discuss his 'policies', am perfectly able to say if I think they are sensible even if I wouldn't trust Corybn/John McDonnell to implement them sensibly.

Are you happy with their stated intention to destroy capitalism? Do you think that will work well for the masses?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 22:56

Hey Bear, whats the mood about free internet? Do Labour lovers think it is a vote winner? Is their much discussion about the consequences of that policy?

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 22:56

What has happened to his life long aversion to the EU

Same thing that happened to mine - reality! Understanding that, despite it's enormous faults, it's just too damaging to come out of the EU now and he will be better trying to exert some influence on the inside. I think it's been an epic struggle for him though

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 23:02

ArseDarkly: Debt rose massively under the last two governments
As a result of Browns massive increase in the UKs deficit.

the crash was part of a global financial disaster, not a 'Labour banking crash'
And if Brown hadn't raised our deficit and debt so much they we would have been better able to navigate the banking crash, as other countries did. Unfortunately he didn't so we all suffered and were forced into what is now called 'austerity'.

Corbyn supporters so easily wear rose tinted spectacles. Which is why they can now support free everything for everyone.

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 23:02

The abuse of Corbyn personally I have seen on here can really only be described as hate.

Are you happy with their stated intention to destroy capitalism? Do you think that will work well for the masses?

Can you point me to where they have stated this intention?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2019 23:04

Same thing that happened to mine - reality! Understanding that, despite it's enormous faults, it's just too damaging to come out of the EU now and he will be better trying to exert some influence on the inside

Corbyn has not once said this. He is still planning on negotiating another deal to leave the EU if he becomes PM.

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 23:09

Can you point me to where they have stated this intention?

John McDonnell's Who's Who entry in which he says his hobby is "fermenting the overthrow of capitalism".

John McDonnell in 2013 talking about the financial crisis of 2007–2008 and stating, "I've been waiting for this for a generation! We've got to demand systemic change. Look, I'm straight, I'm honest with people: I'm a Marxist."

ArseDarkly · 16/11/2019 23:12

Your ideas about Brown and the impact of the crash are really out of date and simplistic walking and don't explain why, after 9 years of terrible damaging austerity, debt is still enormous.

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 23:15

SingingLily · 16/11/2019 23:17

Paste fail. It's a quote from John McDonnell at a public seminar in which he said, "It's easy to manipulate most students. Just pander to their natural youthful anarchic tendencies and promise them free stuff".

I don't hate him either BTW. I fear him.
