They gave the longer extension in the hope the UK gets its act together. A shorter extension would have increased the risk of a no deal exit which the EU definitely want to avoid.

Agree

But rather than Parliament getting its act together, the Brexit-blocking contingent see it as an opportunity to avoid dealing with WAB & Labour see it as an opportunity to play politics some more

Le sigh.

At least a GE will clear the pipes if nothing else - high stakes gamble but any decision or movement is better than no decision now 😟

Parker231 · 28/10/2019 14:16

Epic - the key word being’hope’ although with rubbish leaders for all parties, they may be in for a long wait .......

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 14:18

IMHO Cummings is a wizard as he has managed to change "losing" into winning while remainers have been name calling and celebrating pyrrhic victories.

Preach! 🙌

Exactly this

I cannot understand for the life of me why they can't see it?! Fair enough at the start, but it's been so bloody obvious for weeks at least!

Standards committee recommends Keith Vaz be suspended for 6 months:
order-order.com/2019/10/28/standards-committee-reccomends-vaz-suspended-mp-six-months/ 😮

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 14:18

“Hoping that this will be made clearer in a formal statement, because if some in parliament honestly think there is even the smallest chance of extending again, then they will run with it and force us to live in this democratic pergatory for ever more.”

^

From my original post. Clearly here I am blaming parliament in advance of their bullshit, regardless of the EU’s decision.

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 14:19

You were Epic...

I could see that 😉

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 14:20

So if Vaz is suspended, does that mean he can't vote?

Can he stand as GE in election if he's suspended??

howabout · 28/10/2019 14:22
Star Walkingdeadfangirl #prayforSally

Watching and waiting for a GE.

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 14:23

clearly the whole Keith Vaz thing has passed me by. Can someone hand it to me in a tiny nutshell?

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 14:26

But yes, it IS Ironic that I am wanting the EU to exert the absolute control that I don’t at all enjoy or agree with, in order to get our bunch of twats to do their jobs so that we can extricate ourselves from that same control. I can’t deny that. It irks me, I promise you! But, my position remains unchanged.

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 14:27

Rent boys had something to do with it iirc

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 14:28

Report is linked on here Epic

“Watching and waiting for a GE”

Me too. I never wanted one, but it’s the only way left to finally purge this bunch of no-hopes.

time4chocolate · 28/10/2019 14:31

They gave the longer extension in the hope the UK gets its act together

Nah Parker never gonna happen(certainly not in three months) Wink

All the EU have done is just commissioned the season finale of 'Brexit the Final Frontier'', they're going to get out the🍿 and pick 'n' mix, sit back and watch as MPs either self destruct or eat themselves Grin

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 14:32

Thanks dusty, jeez... that looks messy!

BelleHathor · 28/10/2019 14:41

Totally messy Epic and ironically ties into what you said earlier about most MPs being self serving :

"The parliamentary investigation was launched after the Sunday Mirror claimed more than three years ago that Mr Vaz paid two male escorts for sex and offered to to buy cocaine for others to use.

A recording of their conversation also shows the men discussing "poppers" and "weed".

According to the standards committee, Mr Vaz said he met the two men "to discuss the interior decoration of his flat" but declined to comment on details "on grounds of the medical condition of amnesia".

He was a highly influential MP as chair of the home affairs select committee, but left the role in September 2016.

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 14:55

"to discuss the interior decoration of his flat"

Interesting way of ‘painting’ things... Wink

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 15:02

Labour are going to abstain tonight 🙄

Epicwaffle · 28/10/2019 15:04

Oh FFS dusty. What does that mean? Will it pass without them?

time4chocolate · 28/10/2019 15:08

Labour are going to abstain tonight

Dusty does that mean then that BJ will go for the LibDem/SNP date of 9th tomorrow?

OP posts:
DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 15:11

Labour:

We will vote for a GE

  • when the Benn act has been given Royal Assent
(Act given assent, Labour say "Nah")
  • when the extension has been asked for
(Extension asked for, Labour say "Nah")
  • when the extension has been given
(Extension offered, Labour say "Nah")

Yet they are constantly shouting 'bring it on!' at every opportunity 🤷🏻‍♀️

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 15:13

I think it will be brought as a one line bill for simple majority in line with SNP/Lib Dem proposal

Not entirely sure what the fuck is going on now though so every possibility I'm wrong 😂😂

BelleHathor · 28/10/2019 15:13

Yeah but no but, but yeah but no. Labour's still playing checkers while everyone else is playing chess 😉🤣

DustyDiamond · 28/10/2019 15:14

😂😂😂

time4chocolate · 28/10/2019 15:15

😂😂

My brain passed maximum capacity at the end of last week. I’m still waiting for normal service to be resumed😂
