Westminstenders: Super Saturday

Parliament sits on a Saturday for the first time since the Falklands.

A deal has been reached with the EU. Its utterly shite and worse for the UK than May's deal. It even leaves no deal as an option after transition.

The DUP don't like it. They got predictably shafted.

Tomorrow is a debate and vote on the deal. Amendments are key, in particular the Letwin amendment which seeks to close a loophole in the Benn Act and stop the Deal being adopted tomorrow, instead forcing the ultimate decision over the deal to a later date and forcing an extension.

Which the EU may or may not agree to.

There is also talk of forcing another ref via amendments but this, unlike the Letwin amendment is unlikely to pass.

The vote tomorrow looks to be very tight. The Letwin amendment passes looks likely to make Johnson fail to have the numbers. However there is talk that enough Labour MPs have decided to back the deal.

There is also a big anti Brexit march in London tomorrow (which runs the risk of having problems with the Extinction Rebellion ban). Good luck to everyone going tomorrow.

See you on the other side (which might now be on this thread!!)

What an arrogant slippery shit he's proving to be over and over again...

Yes. Not only that he has no mandate, no majority and is totally unfit for high office.

In all my life I have never loathed and despised a so called prime minister so much.Angry

Loving the guy shouting outside parliament during broadcast of ITV news.. he just shouted very clearly "Bollocks to Boris".. Couldn't agree more mate!

HateIsNotGood · 19/10/2019 22:24

BCF - yes I appreciate the explanations, quite comparable to the explanations I give from time to time stating that Albania is a great place (and that's true not ironic).

However, the recent case with QIH bears the same hallmarks as certain atrocities associated with the Troubles. Maybe, at a push you could find something similar in some low-grade company in a city somewhere in the UK.

But what happened to QIH, isn't some low-grade, gang-style hit. It's the same 'protection racket' that's been carrying on for decades and 'masked' by the Troubles.

Time to start telling it like it really is.

Is that contempt of court ?
WIll it be the final discourtesy for Macron ?

Beth Rigby@BethRigby

PM has sent the letter asking for the extension.
Not signed himself,

cover note from Sir Tim Barrow.

Additional political letter from PM arguing further delay is a mistake & wont negotiate one

Tusk can certainly start consulting, even if the letter was unsigned
But any extension has to be unanimous including the UK - so is the request valid ?

Donald Tuskk@eucopresident*

The extension request has just arrived.
I will now start consulting EU leaders on how to react. #Brexitt^

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 22:25

The Benn Act doesn't state signed. Just that a letter in the prescribed form must be sent.

barnun · 19/10/2019 22:25

*I bet BoZo thinks it's s total wheeze not signing it and was laughing as he did it.

I have no fucking idea what he thinks. Does he think at all? You couldn't make this stuff up!

FFS!

thecatfromjapan · 19/10/2019 22:27

Surely there must be Vonservstive MPs who are embarrassed by this?

thecatfromjapan · 19/10/2019 22:29

I mean, I'm embarrassed when I think people over the world might think he's my MP, and thus, in some way, I'm associated with him.

I'm mortified.

It's the action of a petulant 7 year old.

barnun · 19/10/2019 22:29

@thecatfromjapan who knows? It's like a parallel universe. What's real, and what's not?

We're going to end up like Chile at this rate.

PM.

Not MP.

Thank God.

Hoooo · 19/10/2019 22:30

It's just a jolly bullingdon club wheeze for the likes Boris, Gove, JRM, Cameron...

Playing games with our children's futures.

There is indeed a special place in hell for them.

suspended · 19/10/2019 22:30

This is all so excruciatingly embarrassing

NoWordForFluffy · 19/10/2019 22:32

OK, so there's case law about unsigned contracts being binding. Not found anything specifically about letters yet, but I'll keep looking.

cherin · 19/10/2019 22:32

2019
The year when Trump sends a letter to Erdogan that spells more or less like my 8yo, or a DogMan book (including the exclamation marks, the ... and the “call ya later”), signed with his quintessential heart-attack stile autograph that takes half the page

On this side of the pond, a toddler in charge of a constitutional crisis sends a letter to the boss of the 2nd largest economical power, and refuses to sign it

Mah

LouiseCollins28 · 19/10/2019 22:33

If MPs had voted for deal this afternoon then we’d have no fuss, no extension, no letters and no “unsigned” nonsense. They chose not to.

BigChocFrenzy · 19/10/2019 22:33

Hate The GFA has not solved the criminal gang problem - it was never intended for that purpose

The GFA was a peace treaty to end the civil war
which it did
This is recognised internationally by the EU, the USA, Canada and around the world

NI no longer needs heavily armed soldiers & armed checkpoints everywhere
It has a gang problem now, not a civil war nd soldiers don't stop gangs

I would be interested to compare the annual murder stats per 100,000 population compared to mainland UK, not just hotspots like London

tobee · 19/10/2019 22:34

Yes Louise. Of course. All the MPs should have rolled over and submitted to the blackmail of unelected Johnson.

Hasenstein · 19/10/2019 22:34

Acknowledgment of receipt from D Tusk:

The comments are fascinating!

He is such a twat. It's like having Kevin the teenager for PM.
