Because a European dared utter a statement - which was misunderstood anyway

MarshaBradyo · 17/10/2019 17:48

That was to Phil

Hoooo · 17/10/2019 17:49

Even farage knows leaving is disastrous phil
And if we leave he all his meps lise, their lovely eu pay checks....
He never thought leave would win, you see.
Nor did gove and bojo either.
Brexit is and always has been about private school boys seeing who can shout loudest.
Leave voters have a hell of a shock coming.

Notonthestairs · 17/10/2019 17:50

Well to reverse the Leavers arguments aren't the EU desperate to keep/punish us? Extension ✔️
Or they just don't want to be the ones responsible for a crash out and the impact on ROI.

Hoooo · 17/10/2019 17:51

The ROI will still be part of the largest trading bloc in the world.
They'll be ok.
We will be putin and trumps bitch.

Echobelly · 17/10/2019 17:51

Deal won't pass. I'm convinced that Johnson will find a way around Benn Act and get No Deal anyway. There will be an election, the Tories will win anyway because of the anti-Brexit vote being split, then proceed to blame all the shit on the other parties for not voting for a deal.

Notonthestairs · 17/10/2019 17:52

Sorry my comment was directed at Regina.

violettrose28 · 17/10/2019 17:56

Boris can't lose really. If the deal goes through, Brexit happens. If the deal is stopped, he'll get no deal and if it goes wrong blame people for refusing to vote for the deal. In a general election he'll get a landslide victory..

noblegiraffe · 17/10/2019 17:56

Unless EU grants an extension which it won't. Why would it?

While we’re still in we’re still paying...

Bluntness100 · 17/10/2019 18:04

Why would the eu not grant an extension, well there is an estimated 1.2 million redundancies in the eu if we crash out, that's one reason, thee is many more. Should we take it in turns to give one?

PhilSwagielka · 17/10/2019 18:16

@Hoooo This is what pisses me off. They never thought Brexit would win and didn't plan for it properly.

I guess Nigel's worried about becoming redundant. Brexit is all he stands for, really.

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 18:18

GFA. There's another @Bluntness100

Mesaageinmybottle · 17/10/2019 18:20

I think the deal could pass. Surely some of the Labour Mp’s need to remind themselves that their constituents in some places voted out with 65% or more of the vote. Of it doesn’t then I can see an extension. The EU don’t want a no deal. They want a nice deal for them, which this is. They have got the majority of things they wanted. It’s Teresa Mays deal bar backstop.

Beveren · 17/10/2019 18:21

We’ll done to all those that tried to block brexit. You’ve just put us on a non stop collision course for no deal!

But how can that be? Farage, Johnson and Gove all said categorically, time and again, that no deal would never happen. Surely they weren't lying to us?

Do you think, if they were, we maybe should have the chance to vote again now that we know the truth?

Beveren · 17/10/2019 18:23

The Department for Health and Social Care has set up a £25m express delivery service for to transport urgent medical supplies door to door after Brexit

The important word there is "urgent". What's the betting that what the DHSC defines as urgent will in effect be "Stuff that'll make us look bad on the front page of the Sun if we don't ensure it's available"?

bellinisurge · 17/10/2019 18:26

Faridge now loves the Benn Act. Fucking hilarious.

Beveren · 17/10/2019 18:30

The EU were determined to punish us and give as little as possible.

I never understand the attitude that it's somehow wrong for the EU to ignore their own interests and give us whatever we ask for. If the boot were on the other foot, we would act the same way they are. If any politician supporting Leave ever seriously believed that the EU would roll over and give us whatever we asked for, he or she needs to retire from public life immediately. All decisions and campaigning should have been based very firmly on the premises that of course the EU weren't going to make it easy for us so that the electorate could have taken that into account in the referendum.

StealthPolarBear · 17/10/2019 18:40

Yes. If the EU failed to protect its own interests it would be called incompetence. Its like getting divorced and expecting your ex's solicitor to have your best interests in mind

When Junker was asked by a reporter at today’s press conference what he would say to the 48% he replied
“You were right”

He is becoming my favourite politician.

StealthPolarBear · 17/10/2019 18:48

Yep. If by some miracle we revoke ill happily be led by junker, tusk and Merkel. Over Johnson or corbyn.

OP posts:
howabout · 17/10/2019 18:48

Protecting your interests is indeed rational. However, as with many divorces and treatment of eg Greece, the suspicion was they may be prepared to cut off their nose to spite their faces.

Also politicians always prioritise short term over long term - applies equally to both sides.

MockersthefeMANist · 17/10/2019 19:00

The BJ deal is dead on arrival because of the expelled Tories who can now tell the whips where to stick it.

The Big Question is what amendments get onto the order paper.

BentBastard · 17/10/2019 19:39

"When Junker was asked by a reporter at today’s press conference what he would say to the 48% he replied

Really? I think it's a crappy, unhelpful thing to say to 16 million EU citizens in the UK having their citizenship forcibly removed while he colluded to impose on them a BRexit deal which he knows will stitch them up royally.

ChickenyChick · 17/10/2019 20:33

Bentbastard, it’s 3 million, not 16!

ChickenyChick · 17/10/2019 20:36

I am one of the 3 million

Our citizenship is not removed by anyone

Either we have our native citizenship, or have taken the British one, or have both.

Nobody is having their citizenship removed by anyone. Yes, we are required to do some paperwork now.

But where did you get this idea that citizenships are removed (forcefully, even)

You are full of misinformation
