I don't really feel qualified to start a Westminstenders thread but we need a new one....

@thecatfromjapan - ok you win with your response to gloria's tweet - you out it so much more eloquently than me😂

PerkingFaintly · 18/10/2019 15:54

Dropped off the threads for a bit. Hope you don't mind if I jump back on with story of Hacker House (Arcuri's firm), which is getting curiouser and curiouser.

We knew HH's supposed UK phone number actually goes through to California, and its registered address changed the day HH was mentioned in Parliament.

Now the story is, does its media manager actually exist?

Boris Johnson, Jennifer Arcuri, and the mysterious Annie Tacker
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50095698

Supposedly an individual called Annie Tacker, claiming at various times to have a degree in Computer Engineering from MIT, then from King Mongkut University of Technology in Thailand, instead. Then claiming that anyone asking about them is picking on for being a "transitioning woman". One definitely fake profile image, then one possibly artificially generated online.

And lots of red flags in the whiny, evasive, whatabouting communications the journalist did manage to get from Hacker House – which were email only. So could be anyone, anywhere.

Lots of weirdness around this company.

"If I encountered someone trying to eat poison, I hope i'd have the sense to stop them"

If I saw the entire ERG about to eat rat poison, I'd offer salt & pepper to go with it

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 15:58

BigChoc you've made me laugh.
MrsL yours was more thoughtful.

Peregrina Arcuri is widely supposed to have been a conduit to the American 'altRight' amongst other things.
Isn't Milo being put in the frame as a possible for this odd figure?

Hasenstein · 18/10/2019 15:59

The despair has got to me now. I can see no way to avoid leaving with an awful (or no) deal, followed by a hard-right Tory majority government, with all the horror that entails. The country has been led sleepwalking into a carefully made black hole and any opposition to this headlong lurch has been piss-poor and divided.

I feel we're rapidly approaching the sauve qui peut stage and will sadly have to draw my own conclusions from this. I'm done with trying to open people's eyes to what they are doing to themselves and the country. I have to look after my own now. Just like the Tories want.

I'll be on the march tomorrow, as with many previous ones, but this is the first one when I shall join with a gut feeling of hopelessness.

That was at the suggestion of Milo Y being involved with Arcuri / Hacker House.ShockShock

This is quite weird enough already. Think I'll wait for evidence before asking my tiny brain to cope with that as an idea too.Shock

am 55 and fully expect to see a united Ireland and an independent Scotland before I retire

Add an independent Wales to that and I’ll be happy too.

Oakenbeach · 18/10/2019 16:32

Seriously, if people want to protect the LPF and the rights that come with it, the worst thing they can do is stall the passing of the WA, as the ensuing GE will be much easier for BJ to fight and win. I believe many people who’d vote for the Tories in such an election wouldn’t be nearly as inclined to do so (especially in traditional Labour areas) if the deal was done.

In any battle, tactical retreats are sometimes needed, along with a hard-nosed assessment of the likelihood of success.

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 16:34

Right.

Because Johnson will bomb in an election with his cry of, 'I fixed Brexit.'

Sure.

bellinisurge · 18/10/2019 16:40

Churchill won the war and he got dumped.

placemats · 18/10/2019 16:41

But Boris hasn't fixed Brexit. Not by a long shot Cat

This is just the start.

This deal is a form of blackmail. It will break the Union, and nothing will get done regarding Boris' precious NHS,

Prepare yourselves because the NHS will not be free at point of entry.

TheMShip · 18/10/2019 16:43

Has Letwin got two amendments in? Someone upthread referred to his one for a PV, but the one I've seen reported today is for delay to close the Benn act implementation loophole.

OP posts:
placemats · 18/10/2019 16:43

The only solution to all of this batshittery is to take it back to a People's Vote or another Referendum. A General Election is the wrong path to take because the ONLY item discussed will be Brexit.

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 16:44

I was being sarcastic, placemats.

I'm mildly alarmed if wasn't clear.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 18/10/2019 16:45

Please could someone tell me what the letwin amendment is? Is it the only amendment?

placemats · 18/10/2019 16:46

Sorry cat. My sarcasm scale needs fixed.

thecatfromjapan · 18/10/2019 16:48

No. My fault, entirely, Placemats. Sarcasm is a hopeless thing to descend to when everything is batshit.

Butterymuffin · 18/10/2019 16:50

Thanks for the link thecat - I will do some emailing when I'm back on wi fi later.

ZigAZigAhh · 18/10/2019 16:56
