Brexit

Do any of the people who laughed and rolled their eyes at those of us stockpiling six months ago care to comment?

I seem to remember some rather scathing comments. I wonder how many are quietly buying a few extra bits each week and smugly congratulating themselves on being prepared. Forgetting the scorn and contempt.

OP posts:
Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 20:41

Zebras - Oh dear sorry to burst your bubble but you obviously only read the first part of that article. Seems that some remainers are just as willing to lose their jobs as remainers. Stupidity on both sides it seems.

jasjas1973 · 02/09/2019 20:41

...just been reading some comments on FB we survived for centuries before 1975!

Yeah as a nation the Syrians will survive their civil war but i'm not sure they voted for it!

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 20:43

6/10 (leavers) compared to 2/10 (remainers) is not "just as willing".

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 20:43

That should have said remainers as well as leavers.

jasjas1973 · 02/09/2019 20:43

Mana

Well, i wouldn't and i'm as about as an extreme remainer as your ever likely to meet!
You need to take these articles with a pinch of salt.

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 20:45

Remain = keeping the status quo.

Brexit = massive constitutional change, that is going to cause so much economic damage that the govt is telling us to stockpile food.

FuckFacePlatapus · 02/09/2019 20:46

Still not buying extra, your all just a bunch of goady sheep 🤫

HattieHu · 02/09/2019 20:48

Still laughing

FuckFacePlatapus · 02/09/2019 20:48

@StealthPolarBear oh forgot i work in frontline NHS and we are not concerned. Does that ease your anger at all ?

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 20:51

Well, nobody's going to make you buy extra, FuckFace - just the govt is advising it. Which in the UK in 2019 is pretty disconcerting.

But I don't want a disastrous no deal brexit - I've got 3 kids in school. I want the UK to prosper - I live here after all. I'm just not sure a no-deal brexit to placate Nigel Farage and his cronies is the right way to go about it.

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 20:53

Zebras - Read the article properly, not just the headline, it says 40% of leavers so 4 out of 10 not 6 out of 10.

Yaflamingalah · 02/09/2019 20:54

I’m still chuckling about the poster on one thread who was stockpiling cigarettes and alcohol miniatures to trade with.

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 20:55

Jasjas1973 - Tell that to Zebras, she's the one getting excited about it, and she only read the bloody headline!

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 21:02

I'm not excited - excited is a pleasant feeling. Nothing about a no deal brexit in 60 odd days is pleasant.

Mirrormirror999 · 02/09/2019 21:07

Still laughing!! Even if choice is restricted to seasonal produce for months where is the catastrophe?

AutumnCrow · 02/09/2019 21:13

i work in frontline NHS and we are not concerned

Right, aye

Tolleshunt · 02/09/2019 21:21

mamamia I don’t doubt there are thickos on the remain side too. Just goes to prove the point that the great British public should never have been let loose to vote on it in the first place.

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 21:34

They have been stockpiling on MSE for at least 6 years , ....they would just love a disaster

This is an interesting comment. I've watched some of those extreme preppers shows - and I do sometimes get the feeling (partic on the US ones) that some of them are quite craving the disaster, the event that they can survive because they've prepped for it. Not all of them mind, just some.

That is not me. Mine comes from a place of fear - because I have dependent children and pets, and because I read the newspapers. I'm prepping because of what has been reported and leaked by our own govt. I hope never to have to use my stash because brexit has turned into some kind of catastrophe. I hope everything will be fine, and I'll just gradually use up/rotate the stash over the next year.

Nothing will go to waste if everything turns into sunlit uplands. I'll be happy if it goes that way. Because basically, I just want to keep on living my life, ad taking my dc to school, and buying food in the supermarket.

I certainly don't want economic turmoil, riots, or food/medicine shortages. But we keep being warned that this is what will happen in the event of no deal.

MotherofPearl · 02/09/2019 21:41

@Silenceissilver

When you refer to 'the bush war in Rhodesia', presumably you mean the Zimbabwean war for independence from a repressive white settler minority.

Sorry to sidetrack OP. I was stockpiling 6 months ago and I'm now redoubling my efforts.

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 21:53

Zebras - Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers, they are very sensationalist.

Also a lot of things are reported as could happen or may happen which is not the same as will happen.

Even if we leave with no deal, you will still be taking your children to school and buying food from the supermarket. Why wouldn't you?

jasjas1973 · 02/09/2019 21:56

Even if choice is restricted to seasonal produce for months where is the catastrophe?

Where is the upside? thought all these tales of shortages were Project Fear? but turns out they were true.

Will screw the restaurant/pub trade wont it? plus make the UK look fuckin stupid to the rest of the world.... a first world country that votes for food shortages! hurrah! well done! top of the class!

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:05

Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers, they are very sensationalist.

Oh behave. I'm not reading "Elvis is still alive and living in Kansas" - I'm reading the govt's own reports and statements.

bellinisurge · 02/09/2019 22:09

@Mamamia456 , you can buy turnips from the supermarket if supply hasn't been messed up. Anything else? It's going to be patchy at best. Maybe you should find out what the British Retail Consortium say about the likely outcome of Brexit or listen to Michael "there will be adequate food" Gove.

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:10

"Adequate" food. Joy!

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 22:15

Zebras - Oh I forgot, you just read the headlines!
