Brexit

Do any of the people who laughed and rolled their eyes at those of us stockpiling six months ago care to comment?

I seem to remember some rather scathing comments. I wonder how many are quietly buying a few extra bits each week and smugly congratulating themselves on being prepared. Forgetting the scorn and contempt.

Don’t worry, I’m still laughing.

You did ask...

Mamamia456 · 01/09/2019 19:30

Stealthpolarbear - Yes that was me, but I will leave this thread now because we obviously have a completely different outlook on life, and whatever I say you will think I am being patronising, but you shouldn't start threads if you don't like some of the replies that you get.

Silenceissilver · 01/09/2019 19:31

@DuckWillow we had rationing in Rhodesia during the Bush Wars. We just got on with it because we had to. The same would happen in the case of Brexit I’m sure

BogglesGoggles · 01/09/2019 19:31

But nothing has changed. Ask again once brexit has actually happened maybe?

Iflyaway · 01/09/2019 19:31

Fucking sad you have to stockpile at all!!

England has lost its mind quite frankly.

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2019 19:32

"you shouldn't start threads if you don't like some of the replies that you get."
Really? I have to love every single reply?

Dljlr · 01/09/2019 19:35

Not been involved in any previous stockpiling thread but find this one bizarre. Yay for you if you have the money and space and paranoia needed to do it, but no, I'm not in any kind of secret awe. Hth.

Parker231 · 01/09/2019 19:36

I’m assuming that those who are mocking those who have a stockpile, don’t know where the food they eat comes from and how the food supply chain works?

ItsGoingTibiaK · 01/09/2019 19:37

How much of your stockpiled food have you had to use yet? Because if the answer is ‘none’ then this is a really weird, rather premature, crowing post.

PennyB40 · 01/09/2019 19:37

Rationing - no big deal 😂
How the fuck did it change from ‘this will be the best thing for the Country’ to we won’t starve and rationing is no biggie.
Don’t worry kids, a few bombs in Northern Ireland is just a laugh too. Ffs.

Mamamia456 · 01/09/2019 19:38

Stealthpolarbear - Thought you weren't engaging with me, but don't throw your toys out of the pram if you don't like my replies

PersonaNonGarter · 01/09/2019 19:39

OP, from your post you seemed to think you have somehow slamdunked those people who thought stockpiling was foolish.

Since we don’t know what will happen next, and Asda is still selling Mr Kiplings and fresh coriander et al, don’t be surprised that we don’t think you have won the argument.

But, y’know, enjoy your extra lentils and rice pudding. No harm done.

Jenniferturkington · 01/09/2019 19:39

I don’t really get it tbh. The vast majority of products which are most likely to be affected are fresh produce. You can’t stockpile fresh fruit & veg!
I do understand people being worried about medications but I can’t get stressed about food tbh.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/09/2019 19:40

I mean how long are you expecting this disruption to last?
Im only expecting a maximum of 2 weeks disruption before we go running back to the EU to sign whatever they put in front of us, so Ive only got a small stash of staples.

helpmeiamatoad · 01/09/2019 19:40

Do people really expect we’re going to be on WWII style rations? There are plenty of countries who aren’t in the EU, and somehow they aren’t being forced to survive on a pound of butter a week!

ShirleyPhallus · 01/09/2019 19:42

I still think that stockpiling is ridiculous and am not doing it

There’s also a huge difference in buying an extra few bags of pasta and the preppers threads of getting in fuel and weapons which frankly are totally loco

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2019 19:43

No toys no pram. I can't guarantee to like every post on a thread I start in advance, it simply doesn't work like that. I'm not going to be needled by you again. That doesn't mean I'm not responding at all, this isn't the playground and we're not six.

OP posts:
Scarlett555 · 01/09/2019 19:43

Wonder how many stockpiling voted leave in the first place...?

steppemum · 01/09/2019 19:45

I am not stockpiling anything, and I have no intention of doing so.

And I would have laughe dincredulously 6 months ago, and would do again now.

I really don't care if some things are short. Life will go on if I have to eat pasta instead of potatoes or whatever. I will adapt to what is available.

The only thing that concerns me is medicine, and I would try and stock up if I was dependent on one thing.

Such drama over nothing. I hate Brexit, I think it will be bad for us and I think that there will be supply issues, but I will just cook and eat what there is. We eat a lot of fresh stuff usually and you can't stockpile that, or fresh milk.

Raphael34 · 01/09/2019 19:45

I’ll care to comment. Your stockpile has accomplished jack shit for the time being. Laugh and roll your eyes when you’ve actually proved something

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2019 19:45

PersonaNonGarter completely agree the argument hasnt been "won". I really hope it never is. If I am wrong you can all come round for lentil loaf and rice pudding :) but the very discussion of stockpiling used to get eye rolls, as IF they'd let food and medicines run short. Now we're not so sure are we?

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 01/09/2019 19:46

I think you are a bit premature, you can only really say told you so if/when we do actually have shortages and need stockpiles.

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2019 19:47

Definitely. But it's no longer ridiculous. It's no longer tin foil hat territory is it.
I want to be proved wrong. Apart from anything else I have a big birthday party to host shortly after brexit. Its not going to be much fun on tinned tomatoes and cheap pasta.

OP posts:
MythicalBiologicalFennel · 01/09/2019 19:48

Worst case scenario would be rationing.
Been there, done that. Not a big deal really.

I find the minimising and romanticising of wartime really chilling.
