Brexit

Do any of the people who laughed and rolled their eyes at those of us stockpiling six months ago care to comment?

I seem to remember some rather scathing comments. I wonder how many are quietly buying a few extra bits each week and smugly congratulating themselves on being prepared. Forgetting the scorn and contempt.

jasjas1973 are you for real???

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:20

Sorry, Mama - you think there's something funny in 40% of brexiteers not caring if people lose their jobs? Or if 6/10 think "significant damage to the economy is worth it" ?

Here's my pound update for the day:

See the first little downward spiral - that's on 28th Aug, when Boris went to Queen asking to shut down parliament. See the latest nosedive? That's today.

Mirrormirror999 · 02/09/2019 22:23

I thought this thread was about stockpiling?

jasjas1973 · 02/09/2019 22:25

Mirror

Why not tell us all the upsides? or don't you know?

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:29

Ah - don't speak of the plummeting pound. That's not relevant - a crashed economy has nothing to do with this. Look AWAY from the plummeting pound and hope for the best.

(Hope all your money is invested offshore, like JRM and Arron Banks- oh you don't have offshore investments? - all the rich brexiteers do!)

Mamamia456 · 02/09/2019 22:30

Zebras - Where did I say it was funny? What do you think of remainers who are prepared to lose their jobs to stay in the EU?

Tolleshunt · 02/09/2019 22:32

Today I had a nice little jaunt round m&s, bought, amongst other things, Serrano ham, Manchego, sweet little greengages from Portugal, aromatic Sable grapes from Spain, and delicious salmon fillets in soy and ginger. Just a few treaty little things to supplement the Sainsbury’s shop for staples.

Having these treats provides me with pleasure in a life that is otherwise dominated by work and the effects of illness. I don’t want to lose them and be forced to subsist on ‘adequate’ food. Where is the joy in that? And what will I get in return for giving up my modest little pleasures?

Far worse off will be those who can’t afford treats from m&s, and are already subsisting on ‘adequate’ food. How will these people cope with price rises for staples?

Really, what is going to be worth all this?

Mirrormirror999 · 02/09/2019 22:35

@jasjas1973 i’m Only pointing out that even if there are some shortages if some products in the short term (or the long term) we’re not going to die! There is more than enough home-grown produce for us.

Dapplegrey · 02/09/2019 22:36

delicious salmon fillets in soy and ginger.

Tolleshunt I don’t think a no deal Brexit will bring an end to the vile practice that is salmon farming in the UK.
Please consider this inhumane and unhealthy industry before you buy salmon in the future.

Tolleshunt · 02/09/2019 22:39

Well Brexit will surely threaten the import of soy and ginger. And price hikes and shortages will push up the price of home grown foods such as salmon.

I’m happy to eat salmon, thank-you. You are entitled to not eat it if you prefer. It’s off-topic on this thread.

AutumnCrow · 02/09/2019 22:40

Tolleshunt is joshing us

Symptomless · 02/09/2019 22:43

It'll be the rising prices that will get me. Or the crap quality.

Tolleshunt · 02/09/2019 22:50

Deadly serious, Autumn.

I don’t want to return to the 70s. I remember them. They were shit.

huntinghighandlow · 02/09/2019 22:51

I still chuckle when I think about the poster on a another thread who has splashed out on a dehydrating machine for tomatoes etc

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:51

Mmm I'm sure the chlorinated chicken will be delish. That's why we voted brexit isn't it? For chlorinated chicken.

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:52

It's what has been missing in my life - I've been saying so for years. EU food regulations - PAH! Bring on the chlorinated chicken.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 02/09/2019 22:53

Whats wrong with a dehydration machine, was just recommending my dad get one the other day...i reckon it would save him a fortune

ginginchinchin · 02/09/2019 22:54

Are we not seeing shortages now because of stockpiles?

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 22:55

Dehydrating machines - PAH. Ha ha - We'll have 'merican ketchup. Who needs tomatoes from the EU. The bastards. We'll get those tomatoes from far away. The further the better. Food air miles are good.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 02/09/2019 22:56

Mirrormirror There is more than enough home-grown produce for us

Um... Have you actually done the maths on that?

Mirrormirror999 · 02/09/2019 22:58

Do you think this situation is the most catastrophic of the modern age?

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 23:01

There is more than enough home-grown produce for us.

If you're typing from mainland UK, there really isn't.

Medievalist · 02/09/2019 23:01

I don’t want to return to the 70s. I remember them. They were shit.

In what way were they shit? I don't remember them being like that.

zebrasdontwearbras · 02/09/2019 23:03

I actually think climate change is the catastrophic problem of the modern age. Can you tell me how leaving the EU will help that? Why more US imports will help that?

AutumnCrow · 02/09/2019 23:04

I would love a dehydrator. Dried mushrooms are silly money.

I was also thinking of shrinking the kids in it. They eat too much.
