And industry leaders have been warning government of the impact for two years.

OverInfestedBadger · 29/08/2019 12:59

Ha! We haven’t even decided what Brexit IS in those years

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 13:00

Your going to have to order more parts...

How do you keep a stock of bespoke parts?
Where do you store your usual parts (and there will be millions of them)?

Oh, and this is pretty much a new state-of-the-art factory BTW - so not running on 1970s systems (which is the whole sodding point of using JIT).

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 13:03

ContinuityError well JIT...just doesn't work then, oh I know let's change and realise we need to order more....
Of course that might be hard to follow....

Frankiestein402 · 29/08/2019 13:04

@mummy2017 - obviously you don't understand JIT.
It's not about instant gratification. It's about removing costs from the supply chain - stock is an operational cost and then a loss when the product(s) change/defects need fixing.
A stock based business simply cannot compete with a jit business. Not having trade deals that facilitate jit is a major competitive disadvantage.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 13:12

If you don't have the parts you can't build the cars, so you have to order more or you run out
So ordering time has to be increased to cover the extra delay time.
If things change you need to react, your trying to say not that they can't change , but they won't change.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 13:14

But if it takes to long to get the part, that waiting costs money, which affects the price. It's not your shed with bits you get from B&Q for your project.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 13:19

And your increased ordering time removes your flexibility. What if your design needs a different part to react to changing circumstances.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 13:19

So your trying to say it is too hard to arrange supply and demand if this also includes delays....
Oh and I thought that was their job.

Parker231 · 29/08/2019 13:21

Companies don’t have huge warehouses attached to their production plants. The trucks with parts delivery direct to the plant and it’s timed to the minute. I’d suggest you listen to the industry leaders who have been commenting on this since the referendum. Its the same for the food supply chain. There aren’t warehouses free of space particularly leading up to Christmas.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 13:21

There were people on here a month ago whinging that there weren't enough ice lollies in the shop during the heatwave.

Venal wankers one and all.

InfiniteSheldon · 29/08/2019 13:48

Well another thread destroyed by Remoaners and hidden at least it's only on Mumsnet. Cheers everyone heres to UK Independence day Wine and lets hope the Remoaners will eventually dry their tears and accept that we live in a democracy.

WhatdoImean · 29/08/2019 13:55

That we live in democracy.... that implemented a decision for which there was no mandate by.... blocking the democratic process....

Parker231 · 29/08/2019 14:03

@InfiniteSheldon - so long as don’t break Mn rules, anyone can post anywhere. It’s called a debate. Perhaps you can tell me what I’ll be celebrating at the end of October? If you can’t I’ll assume there are only negatives not positives and therefore nothing to celebrate.

friendlycat · 29/08/2019 14:18

God some people on here just really haven't got a clue, especially when referring to JIT and how it works. Just saying "change the system" is beyond ludicrous and ignorant. I run my own company and believe me (without JIT problems) I've seen the negative effect of Brexit and this is discussed weekly amongst people within my own supply chain. What is there to celebrate when this is merely the start of a process (that nobody can agree on) that will take well over ten years to implement. So far all that has been covered is a withdrawal agreement and after three years no agreement. Just imagine how hard setting up notoriously hard trade agreements are going to be in the future when they average 7 to 12 years in normal practice. I really do accept that we all are entitled to political opinions but when it comes to economies of business, trade and complex issues it is soul destroying to hear people making comments based on sheer ignorance. Rant over.

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 14:23

and accept that we live in a democracy demagoguery

There - fixed that for you.

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 14:25

I find it interesting that a Brexiter poster's solution to border issues is to take the country's manufacturing methods back to the 1970's Smile

InfiniteSheldon · 29/08/2019 14:31

Assume all you like Parker I dont give a shiny shit Leavers be surfing all the way to success on a tidal wave of Remoaner whining take care hun and remember dont get too stressed there's no paracetamol left for headaches xxxx

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 14:33

Short term, because what the heck else can they do?
Once we know the way forward things can change.

Parker231 · 29/08/2019 14:39

@InfiniteSheldon - what successes are you forecasting? For you personally or the country as a whole?

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 14:43

How many times before in the history of Britain have we risen and fallen.
Stop pretending things only go one way...in your view down.....

Parker231 · 29/08/2019 14:48

But you haven’t given any reasons why we will be going up rather than down? The pound is already dropping.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 14:55

@mummmy2017 , tell the whiners on here who were freaked out by not enough ice lollies in the supermarket during the heatwave. Tell people like that it'll all be fiiiiiine. Because it's people kicking off about stupid shit they can't get instantly that worries me.

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 14:55
