Just in time.
Where you only plan ahead to keep minimal stock to keep costs down.
So any unforseen happening stops production.
Maximum profit and keeping as few cars in stock before sale.
So they knew this, knew that stock would be needed, but don't want to tie up profits in parts.

PotatoShape · 29/08/2019 12:15

Yes, I've name changed about 50 times since 2016....do you want a cringey lost of old threads to prove my old-timer status??

And, I'm a leaver, in a leave thread, so if I get a bit peeved by the angry remainers shit-posting every leave thread into silence.

Spud has spoken! Grin

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 12:18

We are both entitled to be peeved by things we read on MN. This may have been started by a Leaver but, unless I missed some setting on MN, there isn't a Leavers Only area.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:22

PotatoShape don't you think fate keeps chucking Brexit at the people on these threads .
They try something to stop it and it failed.
Oh let's try this. That doesn't work either.
Every court case fails.
Labour will do this....that .. the other and it never happens....
Fate....is a Brexiteer.

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 12:23

Fate?? Jesus, you need to get a grip.

PotatoShape · 29/08/2019 12:23

Haha...mummy, you'd think that the total and utter failure of the apparently most intelligent, numerous and correctly thinking side to stop brexit would give them a clue.

It's almost like the country actually wants to leave!! Who knew Grin

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 12:25

I do understand JIT....
Have worked where I did the ordering.
So maybe we will have to stop instant gratification of goods.
Or we repair instead of throw away.

Please explain how "stopping instant gratification of goods" or "repairing instead of throwing away" helps my local vehicle manufacturer where parts (often bespoke so can't be substituted) arrive on the production line one hour before build time?

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:26

Want to know a secret PotatoShape. Boris is a leaver... Just don't tell anyone, so No Deal come as a nice surprise.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:28

ContinuityError... We used to carry a working stock the equated to the length of delivery time....
Your delivery time will be going up.....

bellinisurge · 29/08/2019 12:28

I'm not against the UK leaving, given the result of the referendum, but it is a Brexiteer trick to say people against No Deal are all trying to stop Brexit.
I'm trying to stop No Deal. I want an orderly Brexit. Ruth Davison has just said what I have been saying, support WA (or a version of it) and we can Leave in an orderly way.
I keep suggesting a border in the sea with NI still in the customs union and single market. How is that Remain?

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 12:30

If manufacturers are unable to use JIT in the UK but can use it everywhere else in the world
what makes you think they will choose to stay in the UK?

DustyDiamond · 29/08/2019 12:31

The only debate is whether it’s with or without a deal - but that’s still worthy of discussion isn’t it?

😮😮😮

This is possibly the only time in over 3 years of arguing with you on MN Brexit threads that I have nodded in agreement with you Bear 😂😂

This is the crux of it now - MPs finally have their feet to the fire & have to vote in good faith for once rather than dicking around and party politicking as a significant number of them have done thus far.

Parliament is being forced to accept the result of the ref & must now decide whether it's deal or no deal.

I expect that the WA will be resubmitted (likely with cosmetic changes, but fundamentally the same) and expect the ERG will vote against as they have done previously.
The difference this time will be that MPs who previously gambled on no-Brexit as a possible outcome have run out of road now - their best outcome is to vote for the deal.

With respect to the tantrums and tears from MPs about what Boris has done, they've only lost 4(?) sitting days.
I've no time for their manufactured outrage on this as they've had over 3 years to debate & discuss, several opportunities to vote on different scenarios (the indicative votes) & 3 opportunities to vote for a deal.
At every turn they've dicked around & treated it like a game.

Now is the time for them to get a grip & do their fucking jobs - accept the outcome of the ref & deliver Brexit - decide whether Brexit is with a deal or without.

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 12:31

Your delivery time will be going up.....

Don't think customers would be too pleased with that - given the current prices and waiting times and the fact that the company can't keep up with demand as it is. Plus customers actually wanting to come and see their cars being built ...

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:34

But the EU refuse to remove the backstop, so there is only one way forward.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:37

ContinuityError

Your delivery time will be going up... On parts
Which was my instant gratification , comment.... People will have to wait for things, like they used to.

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 12:41

With respect to the tantrums and tears from MPs about what Boris has done, they've only lost 4(?) sitting days.

No they haven't. That is disingenuous at best.

Recess for conference season had not yet been voted on, and it was likely that MPs would have voted to continue. Even if MPs had voted for recess (an adjournment), then the HoL would continue sitting.

Prorogation denies MPs the choice to sit during that 5 week period.

Prorogation suspends all Parliamentary business - any Bills in progress are lost. If Parliament had been adjourned then Bills could have continued through the HoL in the meantime. As it is, any Bills currently in progress have to be rushed through in the handful of days now available.

OverInfestedBadger · 29/08/2019 12:41

Brussels Sprouts are to be renamed Freedom Cabbages

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 12:46

mummmy2017

Multi million pound production lines can't wait around because parts aren't available - you can't run a business like that. It's not "instant gratification", it's basic logistics.

OverInfestedBadger · 29/08/2019 12:48

“Your delivery time will be going up... On parts
Which was my instant gratification , comment.... People will have to wait for things, like they used to.”

BUT WHY!!! Brexit was pitched as an improvement, a good thing, moving forward. It’s just fucking archaic.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:52

And two years notice that the supply chain is going to be effected isn't enough notice?
Or the 100 days notice we just had .
Your going to have to order more parts...

OverInfestedBadger · 29/08/2019 12:53

What is the 2 years notice? There’s no transition period on no deal

ListeningQuietly · 29/08/2019 12:54

or move your production line to somewhere with stock systems that have moved on from the 1970's

Parker231 · 29/08/2019 12:54

The car industry will be brought to a halt within days as parts won’t be available - no one knows yet how long imports and exports will be held up at ports. Parts are dealt in huge warehouses in case they are needed as there is a shortage of warehouse capacity and that isn’t how JIT works. Plans are underway to turn some motorways into holding areas for trucks awaiting clearance. One major car manufacturer has already said they would leave the UK in the event of a no deal exit.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 12:55

We just had two years notice we were going.

Crass12 · 29/08/2019 12:55

Yay, go Boris Grin
