BJ is the biggest idiot around - he now thinks he is above the law.

Boris Johnson says he will use 'powers of persuasion' to get Brexit deal from EU

Boris Johnson has said he will win a new Brexit deal at next month’s EU summit by using his β€œpowers of persuasion”, and rejected calls for a further extension to article 50.
The prime minister said he had no plans to accept the new legislation which would require him to write to the EU asking for a β€œpointless” delay to Brexit, during a visit to Aberdeenshire on Friday.
β€œWe’ve spent a long time trying to sort of fudge this thing and I think the British public really want us to get out. They don’t want more dither and delay,” he said after encountering a prize bull called Keene at a beef farm near Banchory.
Asked how he would deliver a new deal at the EU summit on 17 October, he said:
By powers of persuasion. Because there’s absolutely no doubt we should come out …. It’s a pointless delay.

jasjas "I think the LD's will do very well".

Cannot wait for the LibDem Party Conference where Jo Swinson holds the jackets while Chuka and Luciana square up to Dr Lee and Wollaston. She might even have to draft in Layla Moran to referee. Grin

Will also be a hoot after the GE when they find Jo has lost her seat to the SNP and they need a new Leader. Gin Cake

Parker231 · 06/09/2019 17:32

From Sky News - Benn bill through the Lords, paving way for a legal block on No Deal exit on Oct 31. Compels PM to ask for EU for A50 extension. What next? PM says he’d rather die in a ditch than ask. Options? Resign, break to law or comply?

SistemaAddict · 06/09/2019 17:37

Is die in a ditch an option?

twofingerstoEverything · 06/09/2019 17:45

howabout Will also be a hoot after the GE when they find Jo has lost her seat to the SNP and they need a new Leader.
Is being a sitting MP a prerequisite to being a party leader? If so, can you explain ex-UKIP leaders Nigel Farage, Paul Nuttall, Henry Bolton, Gerard Batten, Richard Braine, etc etc?

bellinisurge · 06/09/2019 19:11

Comply and blame everyone else would seem to be the Brexit-y way, if flouncing isn't an option.

Yeah twofingers don't panic. I am absolutely convinced Chuka will be completely fine with taking orders from an ex MP in Scotland if he gets elected and she doesn't. He is a total team player and always has been. Star Not convinced about Dr Lee though Hmm

GreekOddess · 06/09/2019 21:56

"Because for 40 years I have wanted to leave"

Why? πŸ€”

howabout · 06/09/2019 21:58

On second thoughts the only answer is for the LibDems to coalesce around Alistair Carmichael. Safest LibDem seat in the country after all.

Autumnintheair · 06/09/2019 22:02

Staggering into brexit arms.

I don't know what I need, drink? Sit down? Electric shock treatment?
Dr filbrilator... I don't know.

I've just watched Emily Thornberry on qt and her clever barrister talk is too complicated for my stunted leaver brain.

I think she said.. She wants to go to Brussels, get a good deal, and then campaign for remain agaisnt that deal...

But, I'm not sure. Confused

mummmy2017 · 06/09/2019 22:24

I want to leave, because I want to.
Because I have the personal right to do this.
Because I do not have to justify my right , it was given by this country to everyone over 18, a private vote, that gets count with the same voice for poor and rich, no matter what your level of education.

Random18 · 06/09/2019 22:31

FFS mummmy - I get you want to leave.

BUT you are fucking with peoples lives.

I would have more respect for you if you said that you didn't like foreigners. I didn't like the answer and would disagree strongly bit at least.you would be telling the truth.

time4chocolate · 06/09/2019 22:37

I think she said.. She wants to go to Brussels, get a good deal, and then campaign for remain agaisnt that deal

It was just awful.

That did then get me thinking what a great piece of election campaign material that would be for Boris. He could get the big red bus out of the garage, install a large plasma screen to the side of it, have Emily playing on a continuous loop whilst he drives it up and down the country. He wouldn’t need anything else - jobs a goodunπŸ‘πŸ».

mummmy2017 · 06/09/2019 22:42

You need to blame 17 Million of us,

howabout · 06/09/2019 22:50

Autumn sometimes Emily and Sir Keir forget the rest of us are mere mortals. It's fine though because the rest of the shadow cabinet are convinced that it is best just to leave it all up to them. Labour Leavers and Remainers alike trust JC and the 70% of the PLP who hate JC are united in their trust in Sir Keir Halo.

Never fear. When they get to their Party conference they will have a thoroughly good natured shindig and present a united front of negotiating a Deal to Leave by Remaining which will be ratified by endless PV where the options are Remain vs Remain till we finally come up with the correct answer which is to choose Leave by Remaining. Since this is the obvious answer there is no need to have it as a PV option - that would just confuse us all.

In fact I've already filled in my postal vote for the GE on the assumption this is the policy. They have guaranteed my vote already.

twofingerstoEverything · 06/09/2019 22:54

time4
Emily Thornberry talks shit, but a campaign like the one you suggest would be a bit derivative. LedByDonkeys have been driving around the country for months, broadcasting Leave MPs quotes on screens attached to trucks, as well as producing billboards highlighting their barefaced lies the contradictory statements they've made... all crowdfunded (unlike the Leave campaign bus). If anyone wants to contribute to their fund, they can do so here.

howabout · 06/09/2019 23:05

Don't panic time4. Emily will be hitching a ride in any number of white vans publicising the policy far and wide. No need for Boris to help her out.

In fact she'll probably bung a couple of quid to the LedByDonkeys crowdfunder so they can join in with the positive campaigning and cut out all the counter productive spreading of the Brexit means actually Leaving message.

time4chocolate · 06/09/2019 23:07

Emily Thornberry talks shit....
That's a good endorsement for a shadow Foreign Secretary and people had the cheek to moan about Boris, blimey.

LedByDonkeys have been driving around the country for months

Not seen them round my way
Is it working do you think?

howabout · 06/09/2019 23:08

Nobody show Emily this. It will only encourage her to redouble her efforts. She has to pace herself for all the trips to Europe with Sir Keir when they storm to victory.

mummmy2017 · 07/09/2019 07:54

The quiet majority who swing elections are getting cross .

bellinisurge · 07/09/2019 08:04

That a threat?

jasjas1973 · 07/09/2019 08:08

That's a good endorsement for a shadow Foreign Secretary and people had the cheek to moan about Boris, blimey

The difference is that Johnson is in power, did you listen to him using those police cadets as a backdrop - a la Trump and then his rambling attempts to recite the caution?

But of course, Labours policy on brexit is terrible, as pointed out, you simply cannot negotiate a deal, then campaign against it.

TBH the whole political establishment is in a mess, Cameron has unleashed chaos onto the HoC and the country, as a bxp supporter said to me yesterday "i wish we had never had that fucking referendum"

joystir59 · 07/09/2019 08:11

Corbyn is a phenomenally hard working MP who passionately fights to protect the poor and vulnerable, seeks to protect the NHS, wants to nationalise natural monopolies and take back publicly financed utilities that were sold off to investors at a pittance, aims to stem the flow of capital from the poor to the rich, and campaigns tirelessly to seek diplomacy over war.

mummmy2017 · 07/09/2019 08:15

The people who swing things, don't care about party politics.
What they do are about is right and wrong.
About how a vote was given won and now Parliament is stopping it.
That Corbyn has demanded a vote and LIED yet again.
The whole election will not be about the EU but about who you can trust to follow through on what they promise
Because next time Parliament could decide we are wrong on other things and force them into law and that has to be stopped.
