Well it’s not in Johnson’s gift to just call a GE is it?

Well he could call a VoNC in himself!

Of course the Opposition will only call a VoNC when it is most beneficial to them confused

He’s been waiting three bloody years for a GE and calling for one at every and any opportunity, he has been handed one on a plate and he has said, oh wait a minute that’s not convenient for me FFS. There is a large proportion of the voting public have been waiting three years to have another vote on this and he is standing in the way of that. You might be prepared to wait but lots aren’t. So we just sit back and watch as the Labour MPs eat themselves up as to when we have this GE? Whose running the Labour show here? The man needs to grow a bloody pair and quick. Bring on a GE and now, we need to get this sorted.

jasjas1973 · 05/09/2019 20:40

time4 You are not really suggesting that JC should dance to BJ's tune & agree to an election before the very thing they want to become law gets Royal Assent?

Politically, forcing BJ to ask for an extension or resign, is the by far the best tactic for Labour, the stakes are too high now.

What do you think Johnson would do, if the positions were reversed?

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 20:41

Well, if we’ve all waited 3 years, what’s a few more weeks?

You’re still not getting that Labour will only call a VoNC when it suits Labour. That’s sort of how it works.

Mind you, I’d quite enjoy seeing Johnson calling a VoNC in himself.

At least that’s one vote he’d win Grin

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/09/2019 20:48

Its often been said that the only thing keeping the Conservatives in power is Corbyn. Its ironic that Corbyn is literally the ONLY thing keeping them in power.

He is such a clown he could play Pennywise.

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 20:51

Yeah.

So you can own your shit.

Parker231 · 05/09/2019 20:52

Why on earth would Corbyn vote for a GE until after 31 October. He wants to be confident that no deal is off the table first. Johnson doesn’t have a majority so will have to wait.

ListeningQuietly · 05/09/2019 20:53

The EU know this won't end till the UK leave.
About twenty years after that I think

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 20:56

time4 You are not really suggesting that JC should dance to BJ's tune & agree to an election before the very thing they want to become law gets Royal Assent?

I’m talking Monday, when Boris will ask him again (and it should by then have royal assent). That is what JC stood up and said in HoC last night but, surprise surprise, his MPS are now saying they think it should be the end of October, cue loads of infighting for the next few days. They really aren’t helping themselves at all.

What’s the problem with 15th October anyway if he is confident he can win it?

What do you think Johnson would do, if the positions were reversed?

No idea but it’s neither here no there really.

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 20:58

What’s the problem with 15th October anyway if he is confident he can win it?

Well let’s just say you plan for everything and want ensure that the Benn bill is enacted?

jasjas1973 · 05/09/2019 20:59

He is such a clown he could play Pennywise

Agree, Boris Johnson does belong in a sewer.

GreekOddess · 05/09/2019 21:05

I apologise if this question has already been asked but it's a very long thread...!

On Monday Parliament will be voting on an election and the likelihood is Boris will lose. Then what? I would've thought the next stage is to renegotiate but Boris would rather die in a ditch than ask for an extension.. So we just crash out on 31st October anyway even though Parliament have voted to stop that happening?

I'm really confused!

jasjas1973 · 05/09/2019 21:05

time4

But the point is, why should Lab assist Johnson, just because BJ doesn't want to ask the EU for an extension?

I wouldn't it put it past BJ going back to the EU and withdrawing the request, once a GE was agreed, what is to stop him?

Its just 2 weeks, we can have an election on the 1st of November.

jasjas1973 · 05/09/2019 21:09

Johnsons "dead in a ditch" remark is disgusting, Jo Cox really did die, he should be more careful with his language.

He also said he would lay down in front of bulldozers if Heathrow went ahead, he stayed away from voting... he is full of shit, must think he has 9 lives and any leaver putting their faith in him is a fool.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/09/2019 21:17

So you can own your shit
Only its all Corbyns shit now because he is the cause of parliamentary paralysis and continued Brexit turmoil.

@Parker231 Why on earth would Corbyn vote for a GE until after 31 October. He wants to be confident that no deal is off the table first
The ONLY way to take no deal off the table is to change the government. Johnston will not ask for an extension!

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 21:25

No - this has been the Tory Party Show from start to finish.

It was the ERG that blocked leaving.

Which brings us back to Own Your Shit.

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 21:26

I wouldn't it put it past BJ going back to the EU and withdrawing the request, once a GE was agreed, what is to stop him?

But we would be having the GE on 15th October and the EU meeting is on 17th. If labour win all good, JC can go over there, roll over and hand them a large cheque. However, if Boris wins (either on his own or a pact with the Brexit Party) then it’s clear then people would rather leave with a no deal than remain. Where does that leave the No Deal bill in that scenario?

I can’t really see the dilemma for JC.

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 21:31

I can’t really see the dilemma for JC.

There isn’t a dilemma for Corbyn.

Let the Benn bill concentrate Johnson’s mind for the next few weeks.

After all, if Johnson feels he can prorogue Parliament for 5 weeks for a Queen’s Speech then there’s no need to rush into a GE.

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 21:35

There isn’t a dilemma for Corbyn

Well he seems to be in one right now.

Parker231 · 05/09/2019 21:36

I hate Johnson but he really isn’t having a good time - he’s lost every vote, his brother has resigned, his majority is dropping by the day, his proroguation plans have backfired, he’s make no progress with the EU ......... hope he hasn’t unpacked at No10!

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 21:40

So let’s have a GE on 15th, maybe Corbyn can put him out of his misery - easy fix.

mummmy2017 · 05/09/2019 21:40

So the PM won't ask for extension.
He would win an election and still intends to take us out...
JC knows he won't win. So he should stand down....

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 21:41

Really? With Johnson desperately trying to goad Corbyn into a GE?

Remind me again what Johnson was saying about a GE in his address outside No 10 on Monday evening?

I’d say it was Johnson stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Maybe sacking off 21 MPs wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Parker231 · 05/09/2019 21:46

Many Labour MPs see a snap election as a "trap" that could allow Johnson to implement a no-deal Brexit during the campaign. They think he could use the PM's powers to change the election date to November, with Parliament unable to stop the UK crashing out on 31 October, because it would have been dissolved for the election. Johnson isn’t to be trusted.

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 21:53

Maybe the trap is Labour MPs thinking its a trapWink

Parker231 · 05/09/2019 21:58

Once no deal is a million miles away, then there can be an election.
