Well, on the water side I will happily defer to your working knowledge on these matters, as I do not work in that industry, however I still believe in the importance of self governance in these matters, allowing the public more transparency and the opportunity to influence further change from within. This is not the 70’s anymore, we are mostly very aware as citizens of climate issues and environmental problems such as plastic pollution etc..., I cannot see the british public just sitting back and accepting anything less than the standards we currently enjoy, as any government that attempted to lower those standards would be shortlived indeed (IMHO) and rightly so. But that’s what democracy is supposedly for right? So we can have our say? (At least that’s what I believed until yesterday Grin)

And that brings me back full circle to the dangers to ALL of us of the precedent set by parliamentarians ignoring the public in this instance, there is zero accountability anywhere on any matters then. It’s a horrible dark place, I do not want to go to.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 12:30

Border in the sea between NI and mainland UK. NI still part of the UK.
There, sorted it for you @Fedupcitizen . Accept that and we can Brexit on 31 October.

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 12:35

Then you obviously don’t understand how the UK already inputs into environmental legislation (much of which is also based on international treaties). I’ve lost count of the number of industry consultations I’ve been involved in - do I not count as part of β€œthe people”?

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:35

Oh? Bellini, are you in charge then? You tell me and the british public what I accept or don’t and then you tell me and the British Public they are ALLOWED to brexit on your say so and when you say? Brilliant! Well, that simplifies matters vastly, shut down parliament now dont wait until poroguement kicks in , its all sorted. Bellini decides. Wink

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 12:37

This is not the 70’s anymore

Too right it’s not the 70s anymore - joining the EEC/EC/EU made us clean up our act. You might not remember raw sewage being pumped directly into the sea, but I do.

twofingerstoEverything · 05/09/2019 12:38

Time4 Farage doesn't have the foggiest idea how to implement leaving the EU.
Neither does anyone else.

And yet you voted for it.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 12:40

Relax @Fedupcitizen , I'm doing what literally no one on the leave side has bothered to do- suggest a compromise solution. You don't like it? I don't care. Suggest something else that protects GFA and allows us to leave. Or keep whining about how no one understands you.
Your choice.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:40

Continuity, you obviously count as part of the β€˜people’ when did I suggest otherwise? In fact I openly deferred to your expertise on the wastewater matter? Why so combative?

The fact still remains that leave was the majority vote of those who bothered to turn up. Them’s the rules, that’s what we were told would happen and here we are today, with all of that being thrown under the bus (Boris’ bus or otherwise- hold the puns Wink). And regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, we should ALL be very worried about the precedent that represents going forward for the β€˜people’.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:43

β€œYou don't like it? I don't care.β€œ

Right back at ya! Cheers! 🍻

But what an intelligent debate we have ultimately had, thank you HmmWink.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 12:45

So, you aren't going to bother critiquing the idea or suggesting an alternative.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:48

No. Because as I stated earlier, I pay these parliamentarians to do that job, as I am not a self professed expert on the issues around N.I, I do not need to suggest a resolution and even if I did I would have zero impact on the outcome of my opinion on the matter. I merely expect my vote to be upheld, I’m not sure I could have been any clearer on that really?

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 12:49

So if my sister states she wants a unicorn, I should just get her one because she has said so.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:50

Oh bingo. β€œUnicorns” great.

Same old same old.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 12:52

We have a parliamentary system. We elected this Parliament. What's your problem with my suggestion.
And my Mum is Irish, I have colleagues who regularly cross the border, so, yes, I know a tiny bit about it.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 12:56

Excellent, then hopefully when we get a general election on the 15th I can be instrumental in electing a new parliament! Oh, wait...

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 13:05

Fedupcitizen maybe I’m just fed up with the Leave narrative (which you are also promoting) of the EU imposing laws on the UK for the last 40 years when this is demonstrably not the case.

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 13:07

And regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, we should ALL be very worried about the precedent that represents going forward for the β€˜people’.

Oh yes - and we should definitely be worried when the executive suspends the legislature for its own ends.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 13:11

As is entirely your perogative Continuity, but it’s my perogative to feel differently without having to be heckled and ridiculed for my views. FlowersSmile

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 13:15

I don’t need your fake flowers. Not have I β€œheckled or ridiculed” you for your views, just pointed out that my professional experience of working environmental legislation in the UK is not your rosy view of β€œtake back control”.

bellinisurge · 05/09/2019 13:15

Who's heckling you? Although I know that being on the receiving end of questions is triggering for many?

ContinuityError · 05/09/2019 13:16

And it is my prerogative to not believe in β€œenvironmental unicorns”.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 13:17

Wow. Nasty.

What a shame, I wish I was surprised by that reaction. Maybe then people like yourself shouldn’t be surprised when we feel we have nowhere left to turn but to that dickhead Farage, because we get repeatedly talked down to like petulent children with attitudes exactly like yours.

time4chocolate · 05/09/2019 13:23

And yet you voted for it

Yup and I’d vote again for it - I’m nothing if not consistent.

Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 13:23

β€˜All opinions are equal, it’s just that some are more equal than others’

Hmm
Fedupcitizen · 05/09/2019 13:27

time4 let me buy you a round, what’s your tipple? Wink
