Johnson likes publicity.

Any attention is good attention. Whilst you are talking about how crazy his idea is, the less you come up with your own.

And there it is. The lack of plan to stop no deal. Just a bunch of idiots who argue over who is more right about politics without offering up a practical solution.

Unable to see their own flaws.

And leading us ever closer to the cliff edge and operation Yellowhammer.

15/ The Government is working hard,
but when they say "we are fully prepared for No-Deal Brexit"
it's worth asking "what part of it, exactly?"
and also, "who is we?"

This was highlighted on Newsnight a few days ago. They were talking about the culling of cattle in Northern Ireland. Farmers in the north are saying they'll have to cull thousands of cattle if the border issue isn't sorted. This was put to the minister but all he could come back with was 'we've done everything we can and the government has no plans to cull lifestock'. The journalist said that that may be the case but farmers are saying that is what they will have to do, so how do you respond to that? 'We have no plans to cull lifestock'. So farmers say there's a big issue but ministers won't even acknowledge that it exists as they've done their bit..

Songsofexperience · 19/08/2019 16:10

They are happy to wreck their own country. What's the name for that?

ContinuityError · 19/08/2019 16:19

Fuckwittery?

TheNumberfaker · 19/08/2019 16:21

AutumnCrow · 19/08/2019 16:28

Treason

Camomila · 19/08/2019 16:31

Not Brexit related but I heard on the radio earlier
"Trump interested in buying Greenland"
"Denmark says its not for sale"

I have no idea what's real news anymore!

StripeyChina · 19/08/2019 17:23

Treason or Criminal Negligence?

mrslaughan · 19/08/2019 17:34

Hoooo - if you know anyone who is flying through Dubai you can buy it at the pharmacy in the airport. Unfortunately I can't remember ballpark what it costs . My duoresp is about £75 here - so it maybe too expensive.
It fills me with rage we are even having to have these conversations

mrslaughan · 19/08/2019 17:44

@StripeyChina - can you do research about which schools areas are better? My son has dyspraxia and sensory- unfortunately we settled in Hertfordshire. I have a friend fighting them at the moment. But if they lived in Buckinghamshire they would be better off..... diff areas make a huge difference, diff schools make a huge difference.......which you probably know.......

BJ on the ending of FOM:

"The PM added that "immigration into the UK will be democratically controlled"

They are just starting to insert the word 'democratically' into any old sentence now. FFS.

orangeshoebox · 19/08/2019 18:06

democratic control
like pitchforks?

BigChocFrenzy · 19/08/2019 18:10

camo The USA has bought / conquered a lot of territory to expand since the original states gained Independence in 1776

They've tried to buy Greenland a few times, the last time being in the late 1940s
because of the large amount of land to expand in, with only a v small population there - 50,000 people - many valuable minerals, strategic position for military bases etc

However, Denmark has always refused

and the Inuit - who are the native inhabitants and the overwhelming majority of those who live there - vehemently don't want to be part of the USA
(probably looked at what happened to the Native Americans)

This is what happened wrt 'democratically controlled immigration policy^ to a pregnant trafficking survivor.

The Home Office has accepted the 33-year-old was detained unlawfully and that the detention constituted inhuman and degrading treatment. The payout is exceptionally high for a three-day period of detention

The woman arrived at Heathrow on 8 July 2016 when she was eight weeks pregnant as a result of rape in Finland. She started to bleed and informed immigration officials at the airport, which is when she was held for eight hours and subjected to repeated questions

She was finally taken from the airport to Hillingdon hospital by ambulance. Doctors there thought she should stay in hospital overnight because it was likely she was having a miscarriage. But a decision was taken by the Home Office to put her in detention instead. She said she was not well enough to stand up unaided and had to be assisted to walk out of the hospital

She was released from detention three days later and it was confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage. The Home Office finally accepted that she was a victim of trafficking and granted her leave to remain in the UK

3 Days.

Wakemeuuuup · 19/08/2019 18:32

Holy crap HOOO, that's the inhaler I need every morning and evening! I hope your DS is ok. Also hope I can get my hands on it

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2019 18:36

How many bloody Johnsons are there?!

BigChocFrenzy · 19/08/2019 18:36

^ Boris Johnsonn has claimed that EU leaders will back down and scrap the backstop Hmm

Well, not unless the UK have found some way to appease / bung Ireland
Otherwise, it's just BJ making noises again to keep the punters distracted

An EU official gave sound advice last year about such claims:
never believe UK media stories about what the EU will do, unless you see it in the German press too

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/aug/19/boris-johnson-confident-eu-will-back-down-in-brexit-talks

berlinbabylon · 19/08/2019 18:37

The endgame for those authoritarians opposed to FOM is to control their own population

Pre-cise-ly. I've said it all along. The people who voted for Brexit because they don't like immigration played into their hands. Get rid of FOM and your workforce can't move, so you can pay them peanuts and get rid of employment rights. I know there are various conspiracy theories about EU tax laws and shorting the markets which may well also play a role but most Tory Brexiteers hate EU membership because of workers' rights and it starts and ends there.

Once Bojo has some sort of majority, expect workers' rights to be attacked. I did say it would start immediately on 1 November, but he won't have the numbers in parliament to do it.

tobee · 19/08/2019 18:41

Reading Johnson's reported words, (I try to avoid doing so largely) is like reading the shit Trump comes out with. I wonder why? Hmm

wheresmymojo · 19/08/2019 18:41

Sorry, this might have been shared and I missed it...

Apparently the Govt may be looking for trade bodies to organise the training of 250,000 businesses on new customs requirements before Oct 31st. However the trade bodies are not keen on picking up the responsibility fearing that they'll be blamed if everything doesn't go to plan...

Why is politics suddenly about being "deals"? Asshats

tobee · 19/08/2019 18:44

Doing deals not being

Socksontheradiator · 19/08/2019 18:55

So sorry to read about lack of inhaler. So worrying!
Thanks as always @RedToothBrush

borntobequiet · 19/08/2019 19:00

Not difficult to invade Greenland from the USA, I would think.
Not difficult to invent a “plausible threat” to make it possible, either.
After all, what could anyone do about it?
