Johnson likes publicity.

Any attention is good attention. Whilst you are talking about how crazy his idea is, the less you come up with your own.

And there it is. The lack of plan to stop no deal. Just a bunch of idiots who argue over who is more right about politics without offering up a practical solution.

Unable to see their own flaws.

And leading us ever closer to the cliff edge and operation Yellowhammer.

Well done to your DS hoooo

(And still got fingers crossed for mummahoooo Flowers )

Outsomnia · 22/08/2019 20:19

The extremely long tie on Johnson reminded me of Trump's very long ties.

I do realise that Johnson's foot on the table was predicated by Macron saying something like "it could be a footstool". And of course he did it to be funny and a buffoon.

Any other professional person representing UK would have said, lovely or something like that.

The EU have set him up to being a fool. There is NO other politician (especially in these trying times) who would have done that at all.

But the buffoon thinks this stunt will be taken with humour by the EU. No it won't. J is an absolute asshat and was led in to this by those who know he is an idiot.

I do realise that Theresa May was a hostage to fortune, but there is no way she would do something like that. EVER.

Great headlines though. We put our feet on their WA.

More unexpected consequences of Bexit:

"one of the outcomes of a no-deal Brexit will mean that we will put more to landfill"

Looks like SE waste being sent up North - that'll be popular Hmm

Faisal Islam@faisalislam

NEW: Industry and internal council papers, seen by BBC,
see No Deal Brexit delaying, disrupting and making uneconomic
exports of waste to EU relied on by local authorities, leading to more landfill... /1

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-49440290?

Defra did some good work on this ensuring bilateral deals with individual regulators in the EU nations to keep the flow of trade...
but councils and the industry are concerned about port congestion, slide in pound making the trade uneconomic and possible WTO tariffs too... /2

Environment Agency confirmed:
“We are encouraging businesses who export waste to consider & continue to plan alternative options in case of disruption at borders,"
said standards wouldn’t drop.
Plenty of evidence of councils checking that too...

Suez’ Stuart Hayward-Higham:
“as a result of a no-deal Brexit, we do know that there'll be some lowering of those environmental performance indicators we are all trying to strive to achieve..

one of the outcomes of a no-deal Brexit will mean that we will put more to landfill". /4

reference to the tremendous progress made on reducing landfill from 80% of municipal waste to just 20%

  • with UK accepting new EU Circular economy target of 10% by 2035 -
but with limits on domestic energy from waste plants

—> some reverse of this landfill progress only option /5

But where?
Environmental Services Association Jacob Hayler points out that this is mainly the South East’s waste being exported to EU, mothballed landfill sites are in North.. not in the south east... so /6

“you can't have [currently exported waste] all just piling up at the docks..
It would have to start being trucked from the ports up to those landfill spaces further up north, and stuck in a hole in the ground.
And that's something that we would really like to avoid," ESA’s Hayler

... ^internal council documents did confirm contractors were looking to divert waste exports to landfill...
this is worse for the environment in the places (the North?) where the waste ends up,^
and will also cost councils tens of millions of pounds./8

Other council #nodealpapers seen by BBC showed councils stockpiling binbags, wheelie bins, fast-tracking purchase of bin lorries ahead of last Brexit deadline.
Braintree Council pondering reducing allocations of bin sacks per household to “eke out supplies” /9

mathanxiety · 22/08/2019 20:23

Yes, very well disguised irony attempt.

derxa · 22/08/2019 20:24

No one had a fucking clue. I agree with this.

theoriginalmadambee · 22/08/2019 20:27

dgrossetti just had a chance to look at the yougov, 53% don't give a flying... about what Brexit does to the view on uk. That is shocking, don't they think you need to trade?

And speaking of emphaty. Why on earth should people in the EU care, 53% of brits don't Grin.

On the other hand 8% don't shower or don't know if they wash their feet.

My view of brits has taken a rapid plunge 🤣.

woman19 · 22/08/2019 20:30

And ds1 did brilliantly in his gcses smile
Star *Hooo junior and matriarchSmile

Kids getting GCSE results now hadn't even started studying for them when that awful opinion poll took place in 2016.......(DAG pointed this out)

How long is this mandate?

The extremely long tie on Johnson reminded me of Trump's very long ties
Ties are definitely not phallic symbols or metaphors for the physical and moral impotence at the heart the trumpbrexit thingy. Wink

Channel 4 news report this evening by a police chief updating on so called civil contingencies planning including for civil disorder and increased sectarian strife in Scotland.

Also predicted a million years ago on these threads.

My view of brits has taken a rapid plunge Mine hasn't. I love this country.

I'd bet yes.

Are yougov polls usually so random? Do you care what Europeans think of us, what’s the right age to take formal exams, do you have smelly feet? This has cheered me up for some reason!

But @madambee, you forgot to add the 24% of people who don’t wash their feet at all to the 8% who don’t shower or don’t know Shock

RedToothBrush · 22/08/2019 20:56

We ordered a recycling blue bin the 1st week of July.

Still not turned up.

We are at the tip every week as a result. Massive pain in the ass.

Britons might be rubbish at football, politics, critical thinking, cooking, dressing.

But a Stinky Olympics.......

DGRossetti · 22/08/2019 21:01

Of course the spin will be Brexit boost to North as landfill sites multiply.

theoriginalmadambee · 22/08/2019 21:02

queenofthorns oh yes, you are right, doesn't make it better, does it? 😂

I wondered about the random questions too. Designed to cheer you up perhaps Grin.

Missed this gem ... apparently the UK has gone begging bowl in hand to the US, NZ, Australian and Canadians as a result of Brexit

www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2019/08/17/uk-seeks-five-eyes-alliance-satellite-rival-eus-galileo/

From the Telegraph too !

Stinky Olympics... 🤣

(we are probably not any better)

Outsomnia · 22/08/2019 21:40

Just dropping by to say that the narrative seems to be....

Let them all get so bored by all this, it will be fine.

And to be fair, apart from fora like this, and phone in shows, I doubt anyone cares, the Government will take care of it all for us, and it will all be fine in the end.

The consequence of FPTP maybe, where engagement in politics is just not worth it in a SAFE seat, and never was.

I dunno. Wonder what you all think.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/08/2019 21:49

British press playing up Johnson's meetings with Merkel/Macron is delightful desperation. Nothing has changed, nothing has changed.
