Westminstenders: Charge!!!!

RedToothBrush · 11/08/2019 16:15

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.

Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Interesting that farage has taken aim at the RF.

I'd imagine a LOT of brexiters like them??

Hoooo · 12/08/2019 12:10

Ds1 informs me that the police are to have new stop and search powers.

I've made enquiries. £300 for private coil insertion.

I'd imagine it's going to quite a lucrative sideline in the coming months!

Rather wish I'd had the bloody hysterectomy last year now instead of the ablation. Ffs.

tobee · 12/08/2019 12:17

Misti I'm just jealous! Smile

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 12/08/2019 12:56

I'd love to see him stand against Johnson as a remain alliance candidate.

So would I. If this were to happen I would gladly donate to support him. I would happily go without chocolate and ice cream for the foreseeable to do so. And that is not a promise I would make lightly.

Hoooo · 12/08/2019 13:01

Me too singing

derxa · 12/08/2019 13:08

.

FoldyRoll · 12/08/2019 13:32

I'm part of a national survey company focus group today on Boris Johnson. Rest assured, the ire of all Westminstenders will be fully and vociferously represented.

As an aside, I suffer from seizures because of a brain tumour. The chemo for the tumour caused an abrupt early menopause. Whilst I've been carefully stockpiling epilepsy meds for 18months, it's not been possible to do the same for the HRT. I fucking knew this would happen. Who matters least? Middle aged women. Oh, and the neurologist is changing my epilepsy meds at the start of October. Depending on growth, a new tumour may need radiosurgery. (Too soon for more radiotherapy) but will there be isotopes for the surgery?
A no deal Brexit is likely to leave my young DC motherless a lot sooner than expected, even with brain cancer. I'm not sure it's possible to be more furious.

woman19 · 12/08/2019 13:34

Oh FoldyRoll Flowers So so sorry. So hope that you get your meds. Hug to you and yours.

tobee · 12/08/2019 13:38

FoldyRoll very sorry to hear this! ThanksHorrible to have the added worry from Brexit.

Hoooo · 12/08/2019 13:46

foldy
Fucking hell 🤬
I'm so sorry x

FoldyRoll · 12/08/2019 13:55

Thanks for the Thanks but there's no need. We need to be angry. Thing is, what many leavers of the Tory kind don't realise is how easily things change. A couple of years ago I was a comfortably off, business owning middle class, 2.4 kids family type like them (except the Tory and leaver bit). We would have been very angry about no deal, but mostly able to ride out the difficulties. Now, we're very vulnerable to them. Any of those 'it'll be FIIIINE' types are just one incident away from the same, or worse level of vulnerability. Idiots.

TheElementsSong · 12/08/2019 13:55

Foldy Flowers so sorry to hear this!

woman19 · 12/08/2019 13:58

@FoldyRoll
Brilliant post. You are so right.

Hoooo · 12/08/2019 14:02

Yep.
You are so right.

RedToothBrush · 12/08/2019 14:18

Get this. Looks like we are getting a 'Ministery of Truth' right ahead of leaving the EU.

'Shameful spin machine': Boris Johnson government criticised over plans for new unit to monitor Brexit news stories
Rapid rebuttal unit to 'react quickly to Brexit-related stories as part of preparations to leave the EU on 31 October'

Boris Johnson's government has been accused of launching a "shameful spin machine" as it emerged the Cabinet Office will establish a team to monitor reports regarding Britain's departure from the EU.

With 80 days to go until the Brexit deadline, the rapid rebuttal unit is being created to respond to "inaccurate media reporting" and "reassure the public" the government is prepared to leave without a deal.

Nothing to worry about here.

howabout · 12/08/2019 14:31

I thought Ministryoftruth when I saw the reports on Sunday.

Funny thing is that according to google and The Independent the Labour Party had a rapidrebuttalunit in 2014 in preparation for the 2015 election.

Seems media spin and misinformation is nothing new. Grin

Moanranger · 12/08/2019 14:32

Based upon recent news story that Tor’s likely to lose seats in GE in remain-leaving constituencies, the electoral maths is starting to get interesting, to wit:
Farridge, being a political gadfly, won’t do a tactical vote deal with Tories. While the gross number of right wingers is large (see Telegraph gleeful polling, etc) this could translate into loss of Tory seats, without a commensurate gain in Brexiteer seats. As a minority party, that is their main effect.
There would be some loss of Labour votes to BP, and this could effect a handful of Labour constituencies, but would not effect Labour nearly as much as Tories.
LD will peel off more from both Labour and Tories, but the Remainer parties appear to be actively collaborating on tactical voting.
So while I think the outcome could still be a muddle, my betting ATM is that Tories could come out substantially weaker than they are now.
We shall see.

prettybird · 12/08/2019 14:35

Difference is that Labour weren't in government in 2014, therefore it wasn't coming out of the public purse Hmm

bellinisurge · 12/08/2019 14:39

@FoldyRoll - how shit for you. I hope people keep the feck out of the way with non-problems so that you get the priority you deserve.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/08/2019 14:42

So sorry to hear what you are going through, foldyroll 💐

Any problems with your meds is just adding insult to injury

BigChocFrenzy · 12/08/2019 14:52

The Labour rapid rebuttal unit is just a political party using its own money for PR purposes
i.e. what any professional organisation does, just with a fancy name

A tax-payer funded Ministry of Truth is indeed a new ramping up of govt abuse of power & money

All govts spin to some extent, but this would be shameless industrial-scale spin, like nothing before,
our taxes going to the glory of the Tory party

howabout I'm surprised you would defend what the Tories would do after you have achieved your No Deal Brexit

You were criticising those Remainers who would refuse to vote Labour after No Deal and claiming centrists are pro-Tory,
but why would any Lexiter keep actively defending the Tories ?

Will Lexiters also not return to Labour after No Deal ?

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 14:54

Any of those 'it'll be FIIIINE' types are just one incident away from the same, or worse level of vulnerability

Thanks Foldy

It's a shame that karma doesn't really exist.

Mistigri · 12/08/2019 14:55

The Labour rapid* rebuttal unit*

Doesn't howabout claim to be a lexiter? Methinks the mask is slipping.

Basilpots · 12/08/2019 14:57

Foldy I’m so sorry and you are so right !

Keep angry but at the right people.
