Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

Yep, saw that.

GoneWishing · 28/08/2019 10:26

I'm having to not read news beyond headlines again. I get too angry, and impotent anger is not good for my blood pressure.

I've been thinking of the Christmas box idea, and decided I like it. Even if by then we're all in the sunny uplands, it'll spread the cost nicely. I'll get DH's Christmas whisky early, and some other booze. The odd present as and when I think of it. We're very childish adults and have a homemade advent calendar for ourselves, and I always fill it with actual nice stuff we like, so I could buy that stuff ready. Some extra, seasonal baking incredients. Need to look into the cheese issue.

I'm heading to the big Boots today, so will replenish my OTC meds, first aid and toiletries box.

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 10:34

A Christmas Box is a brilliant idea. It's personal to you. It relates to your circumstances. You can put what you want in it. And it's a positive. Wonderful.

Geraniumpink · 28/08/2019 10:37

I think the thing that makes most most sad and angry is being unable to trust the government enough to keep things running smoothly enough after Brexit to provide their own population with food. They might....or they might not..... The whole thing seems very bizarre and ridiculous.

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/08/2019 11:05

Ex is being an idiot and refusing to read the news. Thus not stockpiling. He will expect me to feed him. On holiday he didn't have enough shampoo so just helped himself to the children's shampoo and did not tell anyone. I only noticed accidentally as they were all sharing a bathroom.

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/08/2019 11:11

Oh and I am having a bit of bother today. Extremely dizzy when I move my head. Feel a bit sick as the room is whizzing round when I move.

I generally have dodgy ears full of gunk.

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2019 12:26

Oooh a Christmas box! I like it! I could then keep everyone's mits out of it by saying its for Christmas. I have sloer, cranberry sauce, Christmas crackers, gin, tonic, just sliced two limes and put them in the freezer, quality street and after 8 mints. I have loads of flours and sugars but dried fruit is something I need to add.

Today I'm thinking 'fuck it!' and considering whacking anything I'm missing from the stash on my credit card. I think the mid-September rush may start earlier than anticipated after today's news.

Dontlickthetrolley · 28/08/2019 13:55

I was thinking that too Fluffy the credit card is there for emergencies and if this isn't one, then what the hell is?

Dontlickthetrolley · 28/08/2019 13:58

And Morrisons are assisting with the loo roll

Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?
Socksontheradiator · 28/08/2019 14:00

I came late to the stockpiling party in March, and did exactly that, @NoWordForFluffy. This time round I've been more measured in my approach, but only because I had more time.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2019 14:02

I can't find the big Persil online on Morrison's site. Does it say if there's a coloured one too, Dontlick?

Socksontheradiator · 28/08/2019 14:03

@Bercows I did not know you could freeze sliced lemons and limes! And now I do! Thank you Smile

Dontlickthetrolley · 28/08/2019 14:11

It doesn't say fluffy but I think it's in store only as it has "once it's gone, it's gone"

BurningTheToast · 28/08/2019 14:13

Realised it's time to actually start stashing a little rather than just thinking about it...

Home Bargains have the big 57 wash bottles of Persil Colour and Non-Bio for £6.99. I've also stocked up on anti-bac hand wash, tinned custard and kitchen roll. And I've ordered a massive amount of bog roll from Amazon.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2019 14:22

I'm going to Lidl later so may pop to Morrison's on my way back. All else fails I'll go to Home Bargains at lunch tomorrow as there's two near me at work.

RebeccaRae · 28/08/2019 14:35

I've decided the time to stash is nigh. This is my planned list - let me know if you think I need to add anything!

Ibuprofen
Paracetamol
Tinned lentils
Tinned beans
Large bag rice
Large bag pasta
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned sweetcorn
Bread flour
Yeast
Olive oil
Chocolate
Tinned peaches
Tinned pears
Tinned mushrooms
Marmite
Tinned green beans
Tinned sticky toffee puddings
Tinned custard
Tinned apples
Tinned rhubarb
Golden syrup
Long life milk
Stock cubes
Tinned potatoes
Chickpeas
Spices
Salt
Pepper

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/08/2019 14:36

I can't fucking go out as I can't move my head without the world spinning. It is a bit better than earlier as I can shuffle to the loo if I take it very slowly round corners. Had fixed down and to the right a little.

I have been writing dates on packets with a Sharpie and updating my list. Going to sort one stash which requires minimal head movement. Grr.

RebeccaRae · 28/08/2019 14:37

Ooh, dried fruit too

cheesemongery · 28/08/2019 14:39

adding myelf - not only for all the tips, but so I remember the squash tromba d'albenga. My garden is currently over run with carrots and tomatoes (oh and rhubarb) a few chilli peppers on the way and 1 measly bell pepper - bloody slugs n snails had everything else!

I've not really prepped as never have much spare money, but I'll def be stocking up on tinned toms, pasta, pulses, rice, tinned fish etc - I noticed in Aldi as soon as Brexit was voted for the prices went up - 10p on a tin of tuna, 70p on the frozen tuna steaks etc etc, pretty much became the same as Asda.

Ooh and I've got a pumpkin growing too Grin

thank you for all the tips.

Socksontheradiator · 28/08/2019 14:41

@BlackeyedGruesome you have my sympathies. I had labyrinthitis which has those symptoms, and sick as well, and it is horrible. Please make an appointment to see your doctor asap

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/08/2019 15:07

That's rubbish for you Blackeyed :( I hope you feel better soon.

I've tomatoes drying currently. They seem a bit pathetic compared to the idea of No Deal today.

MarshmallowManiac · 28/08/2019 15:14

Just returned from Lidl and it was rammed! I was trying to replenish my stash that I had used and a) it looked like prices are definitely on their way up and stock seems to be dwindling, (couldn't find Tuna in spring water, or many veg that I was looking for, and b) looked in many peoples' baskets and they were pretty full of tins and shelf stable stuff. Sod u Boris!

MarshmallowManiac · 28/08/2019 15:18

Also great idea Gate, might do the same as house full to bursting of toys etc, think I might split my earnings between Brexit and Christmas (good and evil so to speak) Grin

MarshmallowManiac · 28/08/2019 15:24

Hope you're feeling better soon Blackeyed Flowers
