My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

I did a small shop. Just one box of washing powder, kids suncream, 2x9 toilet rolls and three jars of pasta sauce. Maybe it's just me, but I'm feeling a bit tired and overwhelmed, I didn't start prepping slowly but literally just 5 days ago.

wherearemychickens · 26/08/2019 11:03

I remember a day in March where I had got everything out to check what I had, and just got completely overwhelmed and sobbed - it was the 'this is mad that I have this much, but also if the shit really hits the fan this is a drop in the ocean and isn't really going to make much difference' feeling of anger and impotence combined

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2019 11:08

I need to get to Home Bargains to see if they still have the 100 wash bottles of liquid. Might try to go later on, though it'll be a rush once we're back from Glasgow.

I need bin bags too, actually. I should do a list!

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 11:11

I believe there is a green and brown version as well....

Not so much chicken pox more erm.... Lentil pox.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2019 11:13

You've been sleeping with lentils?!?! 😂😂

GoneWishing · 26/08/2019 11:16

I've organised my toiletries and OTC meds. I thought I knew what was in that huge box, but have come away with a longish list of things that need buying. But we do have a lot of diarrhoea relief tablets! (I think I must have been thinking about shitting myself over Brexit way too many times...) Organising and cataloguing has made me feel pretty happy.

Next job will be the freezer. I've not been happy at all with the frozen veg we'd bought pre-March. We had various mixes with things like baby carrots, broccoli, cauliflower etc in. It's all been very soggy and tasteless. Maybe something I could blitz into a soup, but meh. This time I think I'll concentrate on peas (never a let down) and stir fry mixes.

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 11:26

Stir-fry mixes are great... I had forgotten about those.

I am not freezing bread this time. It tastes plasticcy far too quickly.

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 11:29

I think I may also buy tins of water chestnuts and bean sprouts so I can have something nice for my birthday.

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 11:30

Not bean sprouts, bamboo shoots.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2019 11:31

My birthday is on Bonfire Night. So hopefully chaos won't have ensued by then! Or maybe it'll just be starting. Seems fitting.

MarshmallowManiac · 26/08/2019 12:08

Fluffy mine is just after yours, I'm sure there will be fireworks in parliament this year Grin

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 12:58

I would make sure that I had everything needed to celebrate your birthday ready beforehand.

Perhaps go out the weekend before?

My birthday is later, hence the need for tins.

@BlackeyedGruesome, I'm way too old to bother celebrating my birthday! I'm at work on the day itself and we won't do anything at the weekend either, I'd think. We're celebrating DH's 40th at Christmas though.

@flouncyfanny , point him at places like Mountain Warehouse etc that often have sales on and some good utilitarian work clothes that are also hiking clothes or "look cool in a pub and pretend you have been working/hiking" clothes. Where "cool" is a relative term, of course.

prettybird · 26/08/2019 15:46

I don't hold with the "too old to celebrate a birthday" Shock

I'm 58 and do expect a fuss/presents Grin I do usually make my own cake though Wink Dh and ds always got a fuss made of them too. Dh was 60 this year and said he didn't want a fuss made as "he wasn't in the right head space, yet hasn't stopped complaining that his (favourite) sister didn't give him a card or a present (I had to point out that she did give him a card and also gave him a box of Maltesers at his request as a minder and that his mum "only" gave him a joint present with me (my birthday was 2.5 months before) of a voucher for a restaurant Confused He did like the present my dad got him as it showed some thought Grin

I get cards and pressies, but I'm not a birthday princess who wants parties etc every year! I'm not generally a party person, and hate being the centre of attention, so a party for me is my idea of hell!

I think it stems from having very little money as a child, so I'm only used to understated.

MarshmallowManiac · 26/08/2019 16:19

Neither do I Prettybird, our birthdays last at least a week in our house!

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2019 16:25

Horses for courses. I'd actually hate that! (The kids get spoilt, but DH and I really aren't arsed.)

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 16:31

Was thinking presents card, ingredients for cake

prettybird · 26/08/2019 16:34

Marshmallow - we also have birthday weeks weekends Wink - usually an excuse to eat good food and open some fine wine for a prologued period few days CakeWineGrin

BlackeyedGruesome · 26/08/2019 16:44

Our birthdays last ages as I am so poorly organised.

MarshmallowManiac · 26/08/2019 17:09

Definitely Prettybird enjoy cake, wine, and family time any day of the week! Reminds me must get birthday stuff in (cards, pressies, candles etc), as have birthdays every month up to Christmas Smile
