I'm staying on this thread for all the insider knowledge of who will vote for who!
Might give me an idea of how the land lies , not all Tory members want to Leave I'm sure.

Apileofballyhoo · 20/06/2019 20:28

I am really not sorry Gove is out. I have a crazy hope that Boris will somehow spin remain. He seems very good at spin.

LonelyTiredandLow · 20/06/2019 20:29

BCF I think they are trying to decide between their own wet dream (Boris No Dealing and taking the blame = they get rich and he is out at last) or someone they think will will elections; completely missing the public disdain for Hunt as Health Sec.

I'm intrigued Hunt says he would call a GE soon after he became PM. I'd like to be polite and say he is blinkered and trying to pass himself off as an entrepreneur but suspect he genuinely thinks the public are stupid - he is a Tory after all. Or maybe they are all trying to palm Brexit off on another party? It's all so farcical it's hard to tell. I doubt they would deliberately give up power so easily though, they know the way the wind is blowing after the EP elections, surely?

TatianaLarina · 20/06/2019 20:31

I’d say he’s more likely to spin No Deal.

On the plus side BJ is our best chance of a Tory split and expedited GE.

I have noted it, and the attacking of oil tankers in the same region.
Thank goodness we have very diplomatic foreign secretaries and former foreign secretaries that won't inflame the situation as it gradually comes to a head in the next few weeks.
I suppose poking noses into the activities in China and Saudi will also help things along.

TatianaLarina · 20/06/2019 20:33

I don’t believe him and anyway he won’t be PM.

Much more likely to end up with an unintended GE via BJ than an intended one via Hunt.

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2019 20:38

Boris is being ' all things to everyone' regarding Brexit according to someone on lbc radio earlier on.
The thing that grinds my gears though is when one of these pompous men say it's fine really, anything to stop Corbyn' and try and make out that this mess is anything to do with them!
They do seem oddly scared of J C.
The whole thing is very strange.

1tisILeClerc · 20/06/2019 20:39

{Interesting that a Tory membership so fanatically pro-Brexit has to now choose between
someone who campaigned for Remain}

By some fantastic bit of spin, remain will become the new leave.
The UK will REMAIN sovereign.
The statutes on the books will REMAIN .
All the EU immigrants are REMAINING where they are.
Calais REMAINS on the FAR side of the ENGLISH channel.

placemats · 20/06/2019 20:45

Boris Johnson is a back bencher, he's no longer in Government.

Jezza Hunt is the Foreign Secretary (albeit Trump didn't know him).

TatianaLarina · 20/06/2019 20:45

I REMAIN unimpressed that the biggest political twat this country has ever seen is likely to be PM.

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2019 20:45

Jeremy Hunt has no chance ; they tried a remain PM before and she was ousted. Surely they won't do this again ?
I can't see it happening now we're down to 2. Back to square one if they do.

1tisILeClerc · 20/06/2019 20:49

TatianaLarina
If we put another half a dozen REMAIN proposals forward and get them printed in the Daily Fail and Expresso we could probably call it job done. Maybe a bit of 'interpretive dance' and a street party to celebrate.

placemats · 20/06/2019 20:51

Look, let's be honest about this. It's Bro Johnson for PM.

The UK can't possibly have two Jezzas as Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition. If that happens, I really will leave the country.

Butterymuffin · 20/06/2019 20:55

Difficult to find a more ignorant NI SoS than the current incumbent

True. My cat's better informed on NI than Bradley.

tobee · 20/06/2019 20:56

"Become a blood donor or join the young Conservatives? Anyway, as I'm not looking for a wife, and I can't play table tennis, here I am!"

Tony Hancock: The Blood Donor

Iambuffy · 20/06/2019 21:00

tobee 🤣🤣🤣

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2019 21:04

Two Jeremy's. I Didn't think of that.
Two more different people you could ever meet!
(All they need is to find Jeremy Clarkson a job in parliament and have them all slug it out)

bellinisurge · 20/06/2019 21:10

Jeremy Clarkson is a Remainer. BeLeavers would hate him Grin

Sostenueto · 20/06/2019 21:13

Words have failed me with the antics by the Tory party especially the last few weeks. I watched all 5 of the candidates on BBC with my jaw dropped the whole way through. It was like a really bad horror movie except it was real. And now we sit back for 160,000 mainly over 55 and white and financially better off people decide who our PM will be and they call this democracy....pfffffft!

Sostenueto · 20/06/2019 21:17

BJ well relieved he doesn't have to face Gove at hustings. Some tactical voting very clear.

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2019 21:24

Yes, Jeremy Clarkson is a big remainer but I bet he is also a paid up member of the Conservative party too. One less vote for
Boris!

Tanith · 20/06/2019 21:30

It's Gove that Trump didn't know. He said that Johnson and Hunt would do a very good job.

Trump knew it would be between these two.

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2019 21:35

This is the kind of ' democracy ' they were moaning about before the referendum, it's all so ' undemocratic' how the EU works but ok to do this when you've sent your last leader packing and need to keep your political party together. The hypocrisy of it all is breathtaking. 160,000 (?) people deciding who will run the country next. A tiny minority.
If it was labour pulling all these stunts then the tories would implode!

mathanxiety · 20/06/2019 21:39

Interesting that Philip Hammond is set to give such a 'tell it like it is' Mansion House speech at this juncture.

I reckon he wisely decided to stay aloof from the fray and play Cassandra this time, but I suspect he may eventually wind up in Number Ten.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/06/2019 21:39

Hunt is v wealthy, but even he may not want to waste his own 125k on the hustings,
if he will only be humiliated in the members vote

red Do you think he might pull out, or is he too eager for fame & glory ?

"Antony Wycher" now a btl Guardian commentator is allegedly a senior consultant to the civil service on Brexit, who used to post as "JJ" on RNorth's blog

This is his report on Cabinet Office gossip and what they expect to happen:

"Johnson will now win by a landslide probably 90% of the vote
Why bother with a member election is what I am hearing from Members

I can see a pull out coming as Leadsom did

We will then have a no deal brexit he WILL prorogue the House to do this
then call an immediate GE on or about the 2nd week of November

I can only repeat what I am hearing in the CO."

< hmm, maybe. BJ might get away with prorogation better than extension >
