Westministenders: Hustings and Humilation

Round 1 has passed.
Boris is winning. But these are the Tories. Surprises might yet happen.

But the chances are the lying buffon is full speed ahead to be the next PM. As long as he manages to keep his mouth shut.

Unfortunately being Prime Minister involves talking. This might prove to be something that bursts the BorisMania rather rapidly.

A GE is still very much on the cards.

And we might face the Constitutional and undemocratic shutting down of parliament to satisfy the Tory Faithless.

Meanwhile the EU couldn't give less shits. They just think we are wasting the time we were granted in good faith.

31st October beckons with No Deal.

I'm looking forward to tonight's debate. Bojo so wanted to avoid Stewart and got cocky, assuming he'd be out. Fail!

fedup21 · 18/06/2019 18:13

Looking forward to Rory vs. BoJo since Rory's the only one that won't have one eye on keeping on BJ's good side for a Cabinet job

Why?

Basilpots · 18/06/2019 18:17

Ha BBC said Stewart was sweating because Ken Clarke had gone awol again.

NigellasGuest · 18/06/2019 18:17

Because hes already said he wont work in a cabinet with Boris

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 18:18

Im off out.

Not sure what time I'm back. Hopefully before 8pm.

New thread ready just in case

One useless twat has been kicked into touch. Always good to hear.

OublietteBravo · 18/06/2019 18:20

The second candidate spot is wide open, isn’t it?

I’m going to have to record the debate. 8pm is slap bang in the middle of my kids bed time.

I’m listening to LBC and Farage is on Envy I think he’s sad the one “true” Brexitier has gone. Doesn’t seem to trust Bozo.

HesterThrale · 18/06/2019 18:21

Still more MPs voting for not-Boris, than for him.
Not sure that's really relevant, but his votes didn't go up a lot.
And the others are all clustered together - not many between them.
interesting...

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 18/06/2019 18:23

Glad Rory got 37. It was LK who said 33.

Difficult (but also weirdly enjoyable) imagining how angry Dominic Raab must look tonight Grin

Don’t blame him. Bozo CANNOT be trusted.

It’s an odd night. Farage has also admitted Rory is the most interesting candidate. Not often I agree with Farage. I feel unclean now. Grin

Re the Ed Davey webchat, I was actually quite disturbed by him saying that he didn't think he / the LDs should 'engage with' discussion about women's safety in relation to the trans debate and that they are not 'legitimate concerns'.

Pretty sure I'm not one of the 'usual suspects' as someone put it, given that I've only been on the feminism boards a handful of times, and the last time it was to gape in horror at people saying they were happy to vote for Claire Fox in the Euro elections because she's gender critical.

But to dismiss safety concerns - eg for women prisoners - and to say he won't even engage with these questions is just shit. Not impressed at all.

DH has just joined the LDs, too - but he says he's going to vote for Jo Swinson anyway.

Peregrina · 18/06/2019 18:32

Glad that Stewart picked up some votes and so glad that Raab got the push.

Found the Ed Davey chat, and saw that he answered my question, so I can't complain there. I don't agree with his trans stuff, but I don't want to go into it here.

howabout · 18/06/2019 18:35

Labour Leave:

""Tory Brexit!" "Right wing project!"

Just a quick reminder of how insane and foolish this is, does anyone remember who LED the remain campaign? David Cameron and George Osborne. Tories love the single market, the only confusing thing is why so many faux-radicals do. #brexit"

Quite glad I'm going out and missing the "debate". I explained the problem with Rory looking like a giant phallus earlier and now whenever I think Gove I see syphilitic cokehead thanks to BCF. Hunt being 150% Katie Hopkins is not that great a visual either. I feel thoroughly vindicated in backing a Boris / Saj run off given the alternatives.

Tempted to go so far as to say, in somewhat agreement with pretty's DS, a wee spell of Boris to deliver Brexit and a GE is starting to look like the best method to finally shut down operation chicken coup.

Carpediem1 · 18/06/2019 18:37

Devestated that Raab C Brexit is out...

Carpediem1 · 18/06/2019 18:38

Oops spelling... devastated!

howabout · 18/06/2019 18:43

Or to put it another way from Neil Harding:

"Looking at Tory members views on everything from a united Ireland, nationalised utilities, scrapped tuition fees & their inate gut Euroscepticism, I reckon Jeremy Corbyn would win the Tory hustings & member's ballot hands down & be an ideal Tory leader & PM.

#JC4PM"

A somewhat radical take on the Blairite received wisdom of winning from the centre.

Cannot wait to see the EU's faces when Boris puts him back into DexEU though.

The EU can easily manage 'No' in 28 languages.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 18/06/2019 19:13

Apologies if this has already been covered but I’m a bit Shock at the YouGov poll of Tory party members. Yes, I know they’re a Brexity bunch but 63% want Brexit even if it means Scotland leaves the U.K. and 59% want it even if it means N.I does. What on earth happened to the Unionist bit of Conservative and Unionist?

61% want Brexit even if it causes significant damage to the economy.

The real corker is 60% would be happy with Farage as Conservative leader.

And that, I suppose, tells us all we need to know about the party membership...

borntobequiet · 18/06/2019 19:17

Ed Davey did the web chat for no other reason than to drum up support from the naice ladies of Mumsnet for his leadership bid, if Lib Dems, and to raise his profile if not.
He made the mistake of underestimating his audience and got his arse handed to him on a plate, as people like to say on here.
I left the party as a result of the LD LGBT+ Twitter nonsense, and related issues, so asked a question about it. Perfectly OK to do so. If others wanted to ask questions about other policy issues there were loads of things they could have asked about, but generally they didn’t.

Basilpots · 18/06/2019 19:32

I know singing won’t matter one jot what BJ says tonight so longs as he is happy to get us out of the EU at any cost.

Would dearly like to ask those who were happy with the economy tanking how much more in tax they personally would be willing to give to make up for the short fall in Government coffers ?
