Westministenders: Hustings and Humilation

Round 1 has passed.
Boris is winning. But these are the Tories. Surprises might yet happen.

But the chances are the lying buffon is full speed ahead to be the next PM. As long as he manages to keep his mouth shut.

Unfortunately being Prime Minister involves talking. This might prove to be something that bursts the BorisMania rather rapidly.

A GE is still very much on the cards.

And we might face the Constitutional and undemocratic shutting down of parliament to satisfy the Tory Faithless.

Meanwhile the EU couldn't give less shits. They just think we are wasting the time we were granted in good faith.

31st October beckons with No Deal.

I'm on the MN HFLC Boot Camp and enjoy a regular square of the 90% Lindt chocolate as a relatively low carb "treat" Smile In fact, you've made me go and have a square Wink

Not sure I could stockpile it though Blush

AwdBovril · 13/06/2019 23:22

BCF - I've got about 2kg of the reasonably nice M&S single origin dark chocolate bars stashed away. Having done extensive testing, it seems a reasonable compromise between taste & affordability for stashing.

Peregrina · 13/06/2019 23:32

Oh is Lindt allowed when you are trying to lose weight? If so, I must get some in.

Peregrina · 13/06/2019 23:35

LibDems gain two seats in a by-election in Stapleford South East, Broxtowe, which is Anna Soubry's constituency. I think Labour still is in overall control.

thethethethethe · 13/06/2019 23:57

That Guardian article on how the continentals see what's happening in the UK is deeply depressing. That they see the UK under Boris Johnson as a hostile state.
I'm continuing my research on how I can help my teenage DD emigrate when she's a little bit older. I feel stuck here though.

thethethethethe · 13/06/2019 23:58

Still very uncertain about whether to hope for Scottish independence or not. There's a strong Scottish view that it would make things even worse.

BestIsWest · 14/06/2019 00:29

Has Gove dropped out? DH mentioned he had earlier - we are out of the UK on holiday - but I can’t see anything online.

Ellie56 · 14/06/2019 00:44

Is that even possible?

LonelyTiredandLow · 14/06/2019 01:19

Not seen anything about Gove dropping out. He's trying to be the Good Cop to Boris' Bad Cop for the gen. population vote from what I can tell.

Anyone going on the 'new' march?

Peregrina · 14/06/2019 02:18

Yes, will go on the new march. As far as I am concerned it's a fight to the finish.

ContinuityError · 14/06/2019 04:44

Peston musing on whether the Tory Party might just skip the leader election stuff and shoehorn Boris into No 10.

“At a time when we face the greatest test for generations [delivering Brexit], the spectacle of two middle-aged men scrapping for the votes of our members, who are not exactly a perfect representation of this country, would be catastrophic - for confidence in us and in politics in general,"

lonelyplanetmum · 14/06/2019 05:28

An American mum approached me at school pick up yesterday. She said " I heard about the votes today. I just wanna say I'm so sorry for your country, it's headed the same way as ours."

Poodle Mat Kitten

Thanks for still being here Red.

PMK, thanks Red. Love your cats, prettybird - love the wall colour too, it’s fab!

borntobequiet · 14/06/2019 05:38

Hi lonely! Was hoping to wake up to better weather but still drizzling here...

It feels like it's never going to stop raining! Though we had a few hours of dry weather, which included some sunshine (😱😱) yesterday. It's back to wet now though.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Tories suddenly decided they needed to sort this quickly and sidestepped their due process. They have too many runners and riders for their purposes. Blast that democratic process.

lonelyplanetmum · 14/06/2019 05:57

Hi Born. Drizzle here too. (Nice word drizzle!)

Mojo -I thought my grey cat was handsome but wow. Cats are unpopular here today waking us up very early by jumping on the bed and talking.

wheresmymojo · 14/06/2019 06:00

Just back to Thatcher (and the type of society she created) for one second...I've had a reverse journey than one might expect.

Grew up working class in Stoke, I come from a long line of miners. My Grandad was one of the miners that lost his job but interestingly when I was younger I was more of a Thatcher's child.

Very Darwinistic, dog eats dog and believing that every success I had was purely down to my own hard work. Other people who weren't doing as well just needed to work harder, etc.

Now I live in the Home Counties and have work in financial services in the City - I've completely changed my mind. Every day I see the complete imbalance towards the South, how much people here don't understand the privilege they have, how many work shy and not particularly bright people earn £££ in the City but add zero value to society compared to junior doctors, paramedics, social workers, teachers, etc.

When I was younger I was very in favour of free market type economics but now I've worked closely with a couple of companies where I've seen unethical behaviour at Board level I've changed my mind. These are huge companies that most people would have heard of.

I've come to these conclusions without being particularly aware of Thatcher's specific policies and while I thought that it's probably where it comes from I didn't want to pre-judge. I'm looking forward to reading more about it.

I think there are so many people who still believe Tory policies are a good thing because they were in the 30%(?) of people who benefited from them (and who don't want to see that it's at the expense of a fair society).

wheresmymojo · 14/06/2019 06:25

Lonely....he's a very handsome cat, huge (8kg) but totally soppy - scared of everything but so affectionate.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 14/06/2019 06:25

Thanks red

wheresmymojo · 14/06/2019 06:25

(...dog eat dog...don't know where the 'eats' came from)

BigChocFrenzy · 14/06/2019 06:27

lonelyplanetmum That photo looks like Boris is bending down to do ..... something .... to Trump < 🤮 brain bleach >

A preview of what he'll do as PM
(he may have to, if Trump now realises what Boris said about him in 2015)

wheresmymojo · 14/06/2019 06:28

I've just seen on Amazon that David Cameron's autobiography is on pre-order.

Due out 19th September...

bellinisurge · 14/06/2019 06:33

Thanks Red.
Can't use my cheapo sun oven in this weather - it's a prepper thingGrin.
My dd is a Lindt fan. She'd love it if I got more for the treat stash.
The anti Boris numbers are pretty big. Much as it pains me, there should be some drop outs so the numbers get behind an anti Boris candidate. God forgive me for even thinking that Gove or Hunt would be better than Boris.

Bagadverts · 14/06/2019 06:39

PMK
Agree fucked. I need the lighthearted stuff to keep me going.

I’m worried that dirt on Boris will be like water of a duck’s back. I think supporters have already factored in that there will be skeletons in the cupboard.
