The Liverpool Echo News is reporting that Cruella DeVey Esther McVey got the worst ever results in a leadership election today.

That will give her plenty to think on when she's doing some of what she refers to as 'nasal gazing'.

Someone who thinks the phrase is 'nasal gazing' should not be in charge of a hamster never mind a country.

Violetparis · 13/06/2019 17:00

Has Boris said either way whether he will be doing the TV debates this weekend and next week ? If he does it will be interesting to see how he deals with Rory and if he gets away with his usual bluster and lies.

CrocodileClips · 13/06/2019 17:00

Thanks tobee. Weeks and weeks of this then, with the final result not expected before late July 🙄

howabout · 13/06/2019 17:01

Meant to post this. Outlines why a GE is inevitable - conclusion I came to ages ago.

I would imagine many of his opponents are thinking and hoping that it will only be a matter of time before Johnson says or does something controversial that makes him less appealing. The trouble is in these mad times the more inept, racist and crazy he is the more he seems to appeal to the Tory members.

BoJo's popularity in Liverpool won't be high after his comments a while back.

Ellie56 · 13/06/2019 17:12

We are living in crazy times indeed. DH and I were talking earlier about how divided the country is, and that we had never known anything like it before. Even the days of mass strikes and the 3 day week in the seventies weren't as bad as this.

howabout · 13/06/2019 17:16

I doubt Liverpool features in Tory party strategic thinking, other than working out how best to expose and exploit the various Labour Party factions.

tobee · 13/06/2019 17:18

@EarClipper just wondering how you'd do nasal gazing? ConfusedMaybe stand on a chair? Grin

DGRossetti · 13/06/2019 17:19

Inevitable, yes. Decisive - I doubt it.

woman19 · 13/06/2019 17:27

People weren't so politically, economically and intellectually disempowered then.
Zero hours contracts would have been illegal.
A greater percentage of the population could read.
More voters were allowed their legal right to votes.
Racism and sexism were illegal; those laws were enforced.
Council house provision was comprehensive.
Media studies was part of the curriculum.
The unions had more integrity and democratic mandate.

They therefore had much more support and could strike to improve work conditions; and benefit successive generations.
Labour wasn't a trotskyite cult.

There were libraries, literacy groups and state funded Higher Education.

All factors which empowered the Working Class, Women and BME Britons.

A disempowered populace is drawn to populist twits like the ones we have.

It is also drawn to populist racist idiocy like 'brexit'.

They and their handmaids know that. Wink

Yet another majority Remain panel on QT tonight I see!! Good to see our publicly funded broadcaster doing its job of providing pro-Remain biased "balance" consistently.

rosie39forever · 13/06/2019 17:48

Erm QT has Mark Reckless Brexit Party leader in Nat Welsh Assembly and ERG Theresa Villiers.?..

ContinuityError · 13/06/2019 17:59

Good to see our publicly funded broadcaster doing its job of providing pro-Remain biased "balance" consistently.

You obviously need to get up in time to listen to R4 Today to get your full top up of Brexit Broadcasting if Mark WReckless and Theresa Cruella de Villiers aren’t Brexity enough for you.

{The UK’s strongest card in trade negotiations with the EU is that we buy far more goods from them than they sell to us}

From the Briefingsfor brexit linked by by DGR.
If this is the standard of their work then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2019 18:23

I buy more from Aldi than they buy from me ......

Bearbehind · 13/06/2019 18:27

The UK’s strongest card in trade negotiations with the EU is that we buy far more goods from them than they sell to us

It’s mind blowing isn’t it - we rely on them more than they rely on us yet somehow some people think that gives us the upper hand. 🤔

Peregrina · 13/06/2019 18:27

And yet many many people credit him with delivering the Leave Vote - that was certainly not London voters.

No, but delivering a one off vote is not the same as becoming PM and having to deliver day after day.

prettybird · 13/06/2019 18:36

I don't think maths is Brexiters strong point Hmm

Don't they understand the difference between one country's trade (and the potential impact of changing the balance of trade) versus the impact spread across twenty seven countries Confused

tobee · 13/06/2019 18:39

No.

1tisILeClerc · 13/06/2019 18:41

{ we buy far more goods from them than they sell to us}
Read it again, and consider they are supposedly lawyers.
Attention to detail is paramount.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/06/2019 18:42

"I doubt Liverpool features in Tory party strategic thinking, other than working out how best to expose and exploit the various Labour Party factions."

howabout Why do you keep diverting attention to Labour's problems whenever there is critcism of the Tory party or whenever anyone highlights a Tory weakness ? Hmm

Considering you claim to be of the left, I keep waiting for you to criticise the right instead of the left, or to criticise a rightwing Tory
