PMK after missing about 50 threads due to real life - can’t say I didn’t enjoy stepping away from brexit for a little while, but I’ve certainly missed these threads and the people on them, even though I mostly lurk. Sappy post end, will now try to catch up on the last thread so I know wtf is going on.

tobee · 08/06/2019 15:25

I'm going out for a posh "do" tonight Grin(rare for me) and I feel like getting my winter coat out! It's going to drop to 9 degrees! Shock

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 08/06/2019 15:31

I have a theory about Gove’s cocaine dabbling in the past.

I think he’s happy for that to be in the public eye because similar questions will be asked of Boris.
I’ll bet Boris has a way more interesting drug history than Gove. He’ll have to lie about it or confess.

I’m probably wrong though

Icantreachthepretzels · 08/06/2019 15:40

Thanks for linking that petition lonelyplanetmum - it will be interesting to see what reason they come up with for not making it an offence.

Thanks for the thread red

PMK

borntobequiet · 08/06/2019 16:00

I found it difficult to participate fully in the counter culture of the 60s/70s because I didn’t enjoy taking drugs. I had to work very hard to tolerate ordinary cigarettes. Happily I was rebellious in enough other ways to get by.
(PMK).

Moanranger · 08/06/2019 16:04

I have been buried hip deep in spreadsheets today - Oh, the joys of running your own business! Just emerged to cast my eye over Matthew Parris’s Latest column in the times. He predicts 4 election in the next18 months, two leadership & two GEs. His premise is BJ will win Con party contest, trigger immediate NC vote, then a G E. Due to the sheer hopelessness of Corbyn, BJ will just squeak in, but due to his bone idleness & tendency to f**k verything up,will trigger yet another GE.
Sounds fun!
Hatever the exact parameters of our political future, the above scenario may or may not be accurate, I think we are for a very prolonged, very rough ride.
I am now drinking vodka in the afternoon. Sad

Ellie56 · 08/06/2019 16:05

So does everybody think Boris the Buffoon is going to be our next Prime Minister? Hmm

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:06

Why should Michael Gove get a free pass after admitting taking cocaine when we are happy to jail (with the implications that has for career prospects) anyone who isn't Michael Gove,

Anyway, the whole drugs "debate" should really be addressed as a debate around bodily autonomy. We should all have the right to put whatever we want into our bodies - even if it harms us. By ceding that freedom to the state, it's only a matter of degree, not of dimension as to banning abortion, restricting birth control and all the other areas where women suddenly become secondary citizens.

As for summer - I've already called it that this is going to be one of those years where we find ourselves thinking that summer is "just around the corner" until Christmas. We'll have a few really nice days, (but nothing you'd trust) interspersed with .... (looks out window) well ... this Sad

DW commented that it would be interesting if that has any bearing on the mood of the nation if more people are holidaying in the UK Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2019 16:07

I do wonder if Gove is happy for this all to leak out because somehow he thinks it makes him seem a bit cooler, given his nerdy reputation and his -umm- geek look.

BackInTime · 08/06/2019 16:13

Andrea Leadsom 'in the event of no deal there will be winners and losers' and 'there will be some short term disruption'.

So Brexiters are now slowly admitting to the problems that no deal will bring but rationalising it because of democracy and by saying this is actually what people voted for. It's like a form of subtle brainwashing with the narrative creeping in that people wanted a leave at any cost Brexit. I wonder how successful the Leave campaign would have been if they put 'there will be winners and losers' on the side of a bus.

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2019 16:21

Rather amused by a Tweet I just read that pointed out that Gove's misdemeanour means he would be unable to get DBS clearance, ergo unable to be a teacher.... let alone secretary of state for education!

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:23

Does anyone remember a few years ago when it seemed every member of the Labour Cabinet had puffed on a spliff ? After "whacky" Jacqui Smith was outed ?

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:24

Or was it Tory ? Now I recall did Anne Widdecombe make some fire and brimstone speech only to have a slow procession of ministers cough to the old ganga ?

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:25

Rather amused by a Tweet I just read that pointed out that Gove's misdemeanour means he would be unable to get DBS clearance, ergo unable to be a teacher.... let alone secretary of state for education!

I'd be amused if it weren't for the fact there will be people out that that have lost their jobs over what Gove has admitted. And that's before the people who were sacked because the DBS managed to fuck up their record.

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:27

A very cynical friend of DBs in the US has just asked if they are all trying to lose the leadership election Grin

Hazardtired · 08/06/2019 16:35

PMK - ta red

Won't be about much DP is under testing at the local hospital this wk with a GP urgent referral. I'm doing really well with crying in the bathroom by myself and the rest of the time is spent giving an Oscar winning performance of ALL IS FINE AND SHALL REMAIN FINE

So not update much but I'm guessing we're wasting our extension and the fannying over the Tory race will be stunning. Hope the rest of the world has popcorn.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/06/2019 16:38

They'd probably all rather be the next Tory leader but 1 or 2,
what with having to cope with Brexitshit / Extend / Revoke

However, there is a high likelihood of Labour getting in for a couple of terms
and except for Rory they can't wait that long

BigChocFrenzy · 08/06/2019 16:42

Oh Hazard so worrying for you
Fingers crossed hard your DP test results come back OK Thanks

bellinisurge · 08/06/2019 16:44

I heard Justine Greening on an Brexitcast describe the Tory leadership campaign as the Doncaster Races Meets Game of Thrones. It was chosen as the title of the most recent podcast. Any other Brexitcasters on here? Surely there must be.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2019 16:48

Hazard FlowersFlowers

I hope you get the test results are OK.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2019 16:48

Ignore the 'you get'.

Basilpots · 08/06/2019 16:51

Bellini Brexitcaster here !

Heard that one too. Seems most sensible Tory’s are not in the leadership race.

Agree everyone wants to be the next leader after the next one.

DGRossetti · 08/06/2019 16:56

Interesting ... let's hope it's not a foretaste of something more sinister.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-48566832

The head of Scotland's biggest fishing industry organisation has said Ireland would be "unwise" to pick a fight over fishing rights in Scottish waters.

Bertie Armstrong from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF), said increased Irish activity around the islet of Rockall was clearly illegal.

(contd)

truthisarevolutionaryact · 08/06/2019 16:57

Another one wearily PMK. And another thank you to Red and all you articulate commentators making sense of this shitstorm. Flowers
