Out of interest, has anyone crunched the figures to see how / if the seat allocation would've been different if the results were taken as a whole and not by region (i.e. how Germany does it)? Does it make any marked difference?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/crjeqkdevwvt/the-uks-european-elections-2019

full results there if anybody wants to do it! (My maths skills are shocking, so I won't!)

Winning Brexit is Winning The Lottery isn't it?

I like the idea of Anne Widdicombe chivvying Farage out of the bar. I predict fireworks.

1tisILeClerc · 27/05/2019 11:55

In the relatively cool calm of the EP debating chamber (or until now) a bunch of shouty disruptive UK MEPs will simply show themselves up to be a bunch of tits and apart from time wasting will have relatively little impact.
They will be the least of the UK's problems.

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 12:00

Yes I too suspect Brexit MEPs will be shunned by all except the very right wing MEPs from other countries

That's if they bother to turn up.

clairemcnam · 27/05/2019 12:09

They might turn up to drink at the bar?

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 12:09

Can they be debarred if they fail to show enough times? Local Councillors can, so why can't they be held to the same standard?

clairemcnam · 27/05/2019 12:09

Corbyn is still being wishy washy.

1tisILeClerc · 27/05/2019 12:10

The plan of EP members shows a little line of Nazis on one 'end' of the horseshoe.

Cherrypi · 27/05/2019 12:11

Yes he may regret recruiting Anne Widdicombe because she'll be there to be interviewed by the journalists and become an equally famous spokesperson. Has anyone seen the numbers crunched on whether the tactical voting worked for remain? I feel it didn't in east mids.

clairemcnam · 27/05/2019 12:15

Local Councillors can? I did not know this. I have known local Councillors who basically do nothing.

frumpety · 27/05/2019 12:15

I wonder if the EU would rather we leave with no deal on the 31st of October than have to put up with the Brexit party MEP's ?

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 12:18

Just dropped a few paragraphs to my (Labour) MP, noting that we voted as we said we would and that in the event of a General Election, as things stand, it'll be LibDem for us. Not Labour.

As always, I suggested it be forwarded up the food chain ....

Really ignorant ladybird book question

Ann is an MEP. Ann like cats. Ann liked Nigel. Nigel is lazy. Ann falls out with Nigel. Nigel has a party. Ann no longer wishes to party at Nigel's.

Can Ann be an independent MEP?

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 12:20

Can Ann be an independent MEP?

Yes.

Iambuffy · 27/05/2019 12:20

This clusterfuck has convinced ds1 to do politics a level

PestyMachtubernahme · 27/05/2019 12:20

Yes, Anne can be an independent MEP

clairemcnam · 27/05/2019 12:23

Bloody hell I missed that Ann was now in the Brexit party.

Iambuffy · 27/05/2019 12:24

cherry my green vote lost the Tories their seat which is what I wanted.
Would have preferred green to labour but...

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 12:26

Yes, Anne can be independent - half the UKIPers decided to call themselves the Brexit party a few months ago. Now they claim they are only six weeks old as a party. You couldn't make it up - well Lewis Carroll could but not most people.

DGRossetti · 27/05/2019 12:26

Not for long, I suspect. I can't see her being able to stomach their naked racism and misogyny. Which is a statement in itself. Wait until Nige opens his mouth to say something beyond the pale, and she finds herself "regrettably" having to leave the party. The irony being that a lot of the people that voted for her did so in the assumption she was a racist and reactionary as old Nige.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/05/2019 12:30

Thanks everyone - I should have googled it. That would have been the best ruse....get the led by donkeys guys to infiltrate the Faragists- then get them elected only to announce independence today.

Mistigri · 27/05/2019 12:30

Will the Garagists cosy up with Le Pen in the EP? Bearing in mind the latter is (surprisingly) a Remainer I believe?

Another contrarian view from me:

Nige is a remainer too. Remaining, while formenting unrest over Brexit, allows him to keep his salary and his purpose in life. Brexit ends the gravy train. He absolutely does not want Brexit.
