Westminstenders: Why the Irish Border isn't a Remain/EU Plot

I hope the events of this week give the ERG the kick up the backside over this that they need.

I doubt it will, but I live in hope. The alternative is too horrid to contemplate.

I'll leave this here instead as a reminder of what choice Brexit was always going to come down to.

Happy Easter everyone.

Good indictment of Widecombe here and her support for gay 'conversion' therapy.

Molly Cato Scott is not a wallflower.

Exactly. Confused.

Clavinova · 24/04/2019 12:19

Flashing your boobs on Sky News isn't dignified either.

Littlespaces · 24/04/2019 12:20

Exactly what? Extremely confused about the point you are making.

Clavinova · 24/04/2019 12:34

Unfortunately for Change UK - publicity surrounding tweets from a Remainer MP;

“When I hear that 70% of pick pockets caught on the London Underground are Romanian it kind makes me want Brexit,”

  • will probably boost the Leave vote - whereas remarks from the somewhat eccentric Ann Widdecombe will probably have less of an impact...I would think.

As an aside about this digital age, ds wants ultimately to be a diplomat so we have been very clear with him that he has to be careful never to put anything in writing ever that could be misconstrued at a later date (there is one particular term that his old school mates use to describe themselves that we have had to explain is only "acceptable" in a small section of Glasgow and is deemed to be racist elsewhere) as a digital footprint lasts forever.

Although it is interesting talking to my 82 year old dad: he is very critical of the idea that people should be judged on views that they had years, even decades ago Hmm. As he says, people change and learn - otherwise what is the point of education and informing yourself? Confused He was a supporter of apartheid and didn't see blacks as "equal" growing up in SA but was "converted" by a tutor at Petermaritzburg Uni (he went on to become my godfather) to see the error of his ways. Should he be judged by what he said and thought over 60 years ago?

I am just pondering the idea of Nige Farage as Prime Minister wandering over to Brussels immediately after leaving the EU to start trade discussions with the EU.
Now Mr Farage, you would like WHAT?

lonelyplanetmum · 24/04/2019 12:50

I think Nigel Farage is a statesman with great intelligence and integrity. He would make an honest principled Prime Minister.

He has friends in high places in the US; those friends undoubtedly have the UKs very best interests at heart.

[ Obviously NOT ...but I'm just testing out a theory.]

Littlespaces · 24/04/2019 12:53

No testing out of theories!

Present day reality is bad enough.

Clavinova · 24/04/2019 12:57

Exactly what? Extremely confused about the point you are making.

Oh for goodness sake - look up the definition of irony - none of the three candidates are wallflowers and they all like publicity -

lonelyplanetmum is using irony as well. Grin

Should he be judged by what he said and thought over 60 years ago

It doesn't really help if you refer to Brexit in your tweet though - quite a contemporary topic of conversation at the moment.

LonelyTiredandLow · 24/04/2019 12:58

Catching up and watched Red's link - "democracy AT ANY COST".
Scary shit.

lonelyplanetmum · 24/04/2019 13:05

No Clav it wasn't irony. I was seeing if you'd agree with me.

As you seem to contradict all my posts (especially those involving calculations showing our economic decline) I thought I'd see if you would ever agree with me. Do you?

prettybird · 24/04/2019 13:06

You're correct Clavinova - although I was musing in more general terms (and dad was talking about this over a week ago so therefore has nothing to do with any Change UK MEP candidiates Wink).

FFS- Leadsome is top?

1tisILeClerc · 24/04/2019 13:27

Even Bo Johnson as PM could be interesting in terms of future trade negotiations.
All this suggestion about 'just leaving' ignores a good year of intense negotiations under ANY circumstances, 2 or 3 years if the UK gets a transition period.

IalwayswantedtobeBeth · 24/04/2019 13:27

RedToothBrush in your post of Tue 23-Apr-19 21:07:11 you used "BCF" and "remain FBPE types". Could you tell me what the initials mean please

Clavinova · 24/04/2019 13:30

lonelyplanetmum

I intend to vote for the Brexit Party in the EU elections - but probably not in a General Election - I'm quite keen on Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Jeremy Hunt - spoilt for choice really...Grin

As you seem to contradict all my posts (especially those involving calculations showing our economic decline)

Most of those calculations are based on a doppleganger UK that doesn't exist - forecasts of what might have been if...you were not even aware that Germany was in danger of going into recession - no doubt the economic forecasts for Germany 2-3 years ago don't tally with the situation they are in now.
