Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

Not much time for a PV. Am I right to think it will take at least 6 months to have one?

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 00:05

I have booked a half term holiday - feels soooooo nice to have something to look forward to!

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 00:06

Good thought about the long life milk - we've got some of that and don't normally drink it so will donate ours too.

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 11/04/2019 00:06

Pretzels, I don't like the idea of Cordelia and Wesley but I'm unimaginative and needed a new NN. TV shows from my teenage years always make me feel strangely calm, so I've been working my way through the classics. Can't stand Buffy S7 though - so skipped straight from S6 to starting the Angel box set.

Darkbendis · 11/04/2019 00:09

Well, atm I am looking forward to the new
season of Game of Thrones.

Butterymuffin · 11/04/2019 00:10

I've been re watching Fawlty Towers. Still hilarious and appropriate to the European dilemma. Mark Francois is basically Basil Fawlty without the wit or ability to inspire empathy.

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 11/04/2019 00:16

Haven't seen Fawlty Towers for years! Did go to a fawlty towers dinner at the Edinburgh festival a while ago - that was seriously fun. Never seen any Game of Thrones, I tend to watch stuff on amazon and netflix.

Anyone know what time the press conferences are likely to be? I'm tired but want to watch.

Politico:

In the end, EU leaders did not opt for a year-long extension as suggested by Council President Donald Tusk.

But a key element of his “flextension” idea is there.
If the House of Commons ratifies the Withdrawal Agreement ahead of the Halloween deadline, then the U.K. can leave the EU earlier.

Also, the purpose of the June review (to be undertaken by leaders at the regular European Council summit scheduled for June 20-21) is not to revise the date again, but to check in on the U.K.'s conduct.
< Blush >
“The review in June is not to revise the date, but only to assess the situation,”
an EU diplomat clarified.

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 00:20

Have they made not re-opening the Withdrawal Agreement a condition of extension? I haven't seen that referenced anywhere yet.

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 11/04/2019 00:23

but to check in on the U.K.'s conduct.

I have a similar rule for kids trying to catch up when they've missed a deadline for a big project.

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 00:27

And do these extensions still eat into the Transition period time? i.e. those dates are still fixed as they are?

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/04/2019 00:30

We are half way through Buffy season 6 now. Again.

I'm on Angel season 4. It's a little dark for the purposes of forgetting real world troubles (as is s6 Buffy!) but I'm looking forward to the more lighthearted season 5 - that puppet episode!

Can't stand Buffy S7 though

aww I love S7, it's one of my faves.

I hope by Halloween we have revoked and all this is a distant memory. if not, I'll simply dress up as an EU citizen and patiently wait to turn into my costume.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/04/2019 00:35

chickens I also presume they'll state again that the WA can't be altered

However, even Cabinet Ministers didn't listen the last time, e.g. Leadsom

HazardGhost · 11/04/2019 00:36

I was wondering the same loletta I thought a ref took 6-9months to arrange because there were warnings about it last year in the lead up to the 29th march.

AlunWynsKnee · 11/04/2019 00:46

Will we go straight to a general election?

GroovieGazelloo · 11/04/2019 00:47

Oooph ! So far, so good then. 😊

Just got in after night out with friend and had a left over Christmas chocolate. Look at the message I found inside.

It's definitely looking like Uri's still on the case. Grin

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 11/04/2019 00:55

I think by S7 I'd had enough of Dawn - she was impressively annoying. I think Angel just gets better through the series and yes, the puppet episode was very good.

I don't think a GE would solve anything right now and the Tories are scared of one, so I think that's even less likely than a PV.

horseshit · 11/04/2019 01:01

May has accepted the extension. Press conferences should hopefully start soon then.
What a night.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/04/2019 01:04

Can we survive another 6 months of this, even with Westministenders for support Confused

Donald Tusk@eucopresident

EU27/UK have agreed a flexible extension until 31 October.

This means additional six months for the UK to find the best possible solution.
< or not >

7Days · 11/04/2019 01:07

Back to nits. Try putting a drop of tea tree oil in the shampoo when washing dc hair.
I have 2 school ages dds with long flyaway hair and despite regular outbreaks at school have not been caught yet - touch wood.

AlunWynsKnee · 11/04/2019 01:09

Cordelia good point. But if TM gets ousted and a new leader takes over you'd get the press clamouring about a mandate possibly and/or vote of no confidence.
It's a bloody mess...

BigChocFrenzy · 11/04/2019 01:12

steve hawkess@steve*_hawkes (Sun)

On a serious note, six months is possibly the worst outcome for business.
Not going to unlock any investment and keeps that huge cloud over UK PLC.

IMHO the Govt owes it to the nation to sort this by its original deadline of June 30 one way or the other

BigChocFrenzy · 11/04/2019 01:18

Probably NOT enough time for PV - because May & Corbyn would have to agree it almost immediately

Sarah Wollaston MP@sarahwollaston

31st Oct would only just be long enough because it takes a minimum of 24 weeks to deliver a #PeoplesVote

Parliament would need to move quickly & decisively ...and the leadership to deliver anything has been in short supply #BrokenPolitics
