Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:36

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

They don't mention tinned sprouts - maybe we should tweet back

wherearemychickens · 10/04/2019 23:27

Loving all the sprout talk. When people are talking about 3am, are they talking about 2am here? I might stay up if it's the earlier time. I'm not staying up til 3am.

Brexit delay until October review in June

woman19 · 10/04/2019 23:28

@MehreenKhn
Theresa May is being invited back to the Council - October 31st emerging as the extension date with a "review" in mid June #euco

@GuitarMoog
Just enough time for a referendum in October if this was the outcome.

RodeoQueen · 10/04/2019 23:29

Francois shagging and tinned sprouts. This truly may be the country's darkest hour.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:30

Narrow result, irregularities, incomplete information given to voters ....

Schona Jolly QCC@WomaninHavana*

Swiss Court overturns a referendum on basis of incorrect info given to voters.

“Keeping in mind the close result & the severe nature of the irregularities,
it is possible that the outcome of the ballot could have been different.”

Another level of debate.
....
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47879777

The poll, held in February 2016, asked the country's voters whether married couples and co-habiting partners should pay the same tax.

Voters rejected the proposal, with 50.8% against and 49.2% in favour.

But the supreme court has now voided the result on the grounds that voters were not given full information, and the vote must be re-run.

The information provided to the electorate was "incomplete" and therefore "violated the freedom of the vote", the court ruled.

Ta red

Halloween date confirmed as a sure thing?

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 10/04/2019 23:30

No conditions agreed yet

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 10/04/2019 23:31

Doesn’t look like it’s fully agreed yet according to BBC news

HazardGhost · 10/04/2019 23:31

Thanks 2bees

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:31

Anyone watching Peston? Justine Greening seems far too normal to have ever been Theresa May's Cabinet colleague. (Unlike Liz 'pork markets' Truss and Penny 'I said cock, tee hee' Mordaunt.)

Peregrina · 10/04/2019 23:32

October sounds good. We will find out if Labour and the Tories have been slaughtered in the Local Elections, and then the EU election ( I hope so to both, but not counting any chickens) and then we will have the fun and games of the party conferences to contend with just before the new Leaving date! This will make for an entertaining conference season.

TinselAngel · 10/04/2019 23:32

I can decide tomorrow whether to start eating my stockpile I suppose.

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:34

Halloween extension headline predictions?

The ghost of Brexit
Trick or treat

Butterymuffin · 10/04/2019 23:34

I'll take October as a lot better than I'd expected but would be super pleased with anything beyond. Labour have to now start pushing for a confirmatory public vote. Surely then some kind of extra technical extension to complete vote (say if itt took till November) would be doable? Tusk would allow it..

wherearemychickens · 10/04/2019 23:35

We are rotating the stockpile now. I quite like not running out of things. I want to book a holiday for May half term - holding off until I know what the extension date will be, as I would like to book a Center Parcs in Europe.

PestyMachtubernahme · 10/04/2019 23:36

Tinsel eat and refresh, keep rotating it (hence buying stuff YOU like). The fat lady ain't sung yet, this could go any old way.

This is not going to end in my lifetime, is it?

Reuters have just snapped this.

EU leaders agreed on Thursday to delay Brexit until the end of October, with a review in June, diplomatic sources told Reuters

Agree on the Swiss precedent for reviewing dodgy refs BCF and political landscape will be interesting then Peregrina. No wonder they don't want EU elections or a confirmatory vote. Smile

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:38

I've always said I'll donate my stash happily to our food bank.

But I might auction the tin of sprouts, 'Of Mumsnet fame!' (For the food bank.) Fully Facebook-rate decorated, obvs.

CordeliaWyndamPryce · 10/04/2019 23:38

October is really not good for me! I'm always super skint and I'm on a school trip over half term - thankfully not to the EU.

It's be better than Friday though.

tobee · 10/04/2019 23:39

Sounds like Macron had a big influence for one vote.

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:40

Facebook-tat decorated

Bastard, bastard autocorrect
