Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2019 22:36

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

@aqbyrne
More details: stock-taking moment in June at #EUCO. UK must participate in May 23rd European elections or leave on June 1st with no deal.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:41

Yes, please auction the sprouts, Autumn !

Anyone getting tinned sprouts as part of their foodbank parcel is likely to burst into tears - and not of joy

wherearemychickens · 10/04/2019 23:41

How much of a thing is the review in June going to be?

Letterkennie · 10/04/2019 23:42

How depressing.

wherearemychickens · 10/04/2019 23:42

Well, if Ian Dunt is booking a holiday, so am I.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:44

https://www.politico.eu/article/special-brexit-summit-live-blog-article-50-extension/

A senior EU official says the tentative plan for a October 31 Brexit deadline is still to be confirmed with U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May.
< she'll be reading all the conditions attached >

May is back at the European Council from the British residence where she had dinner and was awaiting word of a deal among EU leaders.

A potential Halloween Brexit deadline has several advantages:

It coincides with the end of the Juncker Commission
and envisions that Brexit is wrapped up while May remains prime minister, before she can be challenged again in a Tory leadership vote.
(She effectively has immunity until December.)

Yes, I was wondering if the E27 wanted to avoid PM Boris bollixing it all up, by choosing a date earlier than December

.... that's assuming the Maybot continues to refuse to be switched off earlier

Oakenbeach · 10/04/2019 23:47

Interesting what’s going on with the EU-27..... i’m hoping France wins the day and gets its way, setting a 30 June ‘drop-dead’ date. That will concentrate minds and bring this whole sorry farce to a conclusion. It dramatically raises the stakes as it increases the risk of no-deal, but on balance I believe it will ultimately end with the revocation of article 50 (and British politics in such disarray that makes the current shambles seem orderly)

TM will continue to toil fruitlessly for a deal over the coming weeks. Then some time in mid-June, panic will overtake Parliament who are faced with the two starkest of options, ‘no-deal’ or ‘revoke’ with no more opportunity to extend and no time for a referendum or even a GE.

The real moment of decision is ultimately upon us - the clock has struck midnight - and the remain-leaning Parliament will vote to revoke Article 50, and, after much wriggling and writhing, in her last act before her Government finally implodes utterly, TM will, as head of the Government, sign the order of revocation.

TiddleTaddleTat · 10/04/2019 23:47

Pmk

Oakenbeach · 10/04/2019 23:48

Ok. It’s now Halloween..... that just postpones how I see it unfolding by 4 months.

Random18 · 10/04/2019 23:48

If it’s October will May be able to stay on - can’t believe I kind of want that!!

What will Labour do?

John mcDonnel was seriously pissed off with Jeremy hunt on Peston.

It’s clear that the stories won’t stick to anything agreed.

Still Halloween gives us all a bit of breathing space.

I can maybe start to think about other things GrinGrin

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:48

Four EU diplomats say that Donald Tusk is meeting Theresa May to discuss the proposal from EU leaders now.

< he'll break it gently, even to her, lovely man >

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2019 23:49

That was my thinking too, BigChoc. I can't imagine the disappointment. I remember after my husband left (many years ago) and I had £20 a week for a while for food for the DC and me. Sprouts didn't feature in my dreams of treats. Sponge pudding and custard did.

Tanith · 10/04/2019 23:50

Thank you, Apileofballyhoo for that gem on the last thread about the SNP muttering “During the War...” whenever Mark ‘Uncle Albert’ Francois gets up to speak Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:50

imo a longer extension gives more chance to Revoke,
as that referendum result gets older & older .... & dodgier

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:53

Donald Tuskk@eucopresident*

EU27 has agreed an extension of Art. 50

I will now meet PM @theresa_may for the UK government's agreement. #Brexit

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2019 23:55

EUCO not so late then
Maybe something on the telly they all wanted to see
.... or they were just facing tears if they had to keep discussing Brexit

Fleabag123 · 10/04/2019 23:55

@BCF - oh I do hope so!! Wouldn’t that just be marvellous

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/04/2019 23:56

pmk

Hoping the morning will bring goodish news.

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/04/2019 23:57

Cordeliawyndampryce I love your name - except my Cordy belongs with Doyle (who gave me my name). Wesley can have Fred, if he must - but he's not good enough for Cordelia. And under no circumstances must she be with Angel (or Connor Envy

Butterymuffin · 10/04/2019 23:59

Relieved my May half term holiday in Europe can now go ahead without the fear of no deal chaos.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/04/2019 00:00

Joe Barnes@Barnes_Joe

Jean-Claude Juncker was ‘really annoyed’ with Emmanuel Macron, according to diplomatic source. ‘

France went on its own and has broken EU unity, it surprises us,’ < 🙄 >
a source rants to me!

< it worked, though, Macron may even have got the date he really wanted, too >

AutumnCrow · 11/04/2019 00:02

I hope the Home Office can sort out its Settled Status cock-ups.

Or we Remain.

Darkbendis · 11/04/2019 00:03

Right... UHT milk and long life almond milk on the way to the foodbank on Friday. No Brussel sprouts tins though.

Icantreachthepretzels We are half way through Buffy season 6 now. Again.
